Despite how she often joked to the contrary, Catelyn never doubted that Robb would settle into university life well. He had always been an independent boy and was sensible enough to keep himself well, even if he was hot-headed enough to worry her. He was conscientious about his studies, and interested enough in politics that he'd want to do the work, and friendly enough he'd never struggled making friends and balancing them on his own. Robb had proven her right and was continuing to do so. There was just the issue of Theon.
In all truth, Catelyn wouldn't have minded Theon so long as he wasn't around much. The trouble was he was always there. He was Robb's assigned roommate in first year so she supposed it was to be expected that he'd be mentioned a lot but it soon became clear Theon was mentioned more than anyone else, and always in ways that worried Catelyn, and more than that, that the boys had plans to live together in second year too.
She didn't want to dislike the boy, but what reason did he ever give her to like him?
When he brought over so many people at night that it stopped being even worth complaining about?
When he got Robb high and so frightened he called Catelyn and Ned crying?
When he got so drunk he threw up on Robb? Or the several other occasions that happened?
How about his utter inability to clean up after himself?
And that's ignoring how many times Robb had to pick him up from police stations from getting into fights at bars.
Seven, she doesn't even want Robb around Theon's family, knowing what she does about the Greyjoys. Then again, from what she's heard, the only one Robb will ever deal with is Theon.
Catelyn doesn't want to get involved. She wants to respect Robb's independence. But can she really just let him do this without saying or doing anything?
