Chapter 1: imperfectly perfect to all demands

Chapter Text

Coy was never one to agree to parties, which is why everyone was shocked when he agreed to go to one.

“Really?! You’ll go to the Halloween party with us?!” Hanbon exclaimed, squealing with excitement.

Coy crossed his arms before sighing, "Yeah, I’ll go.”

Will laid his head back on the couch, his eyes squinted. Will does this thing where he overthinks expressing joy in a simple sentence, which clearly aggravates the others. One time, Will took two minutes to say, “Whoa, we hit 100k.”

Will shot up from the leather couch, clearly forming a thought… “This is the first time all four of us will go to a party!”

Anthony slapped the back of Will’s head for no apparent reason, “Really? It took you that long to realize?”

“Shut up, Anthony.”

“Whatever, Wahony.” Anthony stuck his tongue out, teasing Will as he sat back down next to him.

Hanbon clapped her hands, “Coy! I know the perfect costume for you!” Next thing you know, Hanbon was dragging Coy out of the goffice.

“See you guys in a bit!” Hanbon paused, “You better find a costume for the party.”

Who knew ‘Bon could be so threatening… In response, Anthony and Will looked at each other before nodding to the woman.

“Bye!” Hanbon smiled.

Coy tried to get a few words out before he was fully yanked out of the goffice, “by—“

And.. It was Will and Anthony, once again. “Dude, you wanna be like— mad scientists, or something?” Anthony asked.

“YES!” Will jumped up, knocking down the pull-up bar. His face was filled with chagrin: “shit.”

“Wahony, Wahony…” Anthony sighed, shaking his head.

Meanwhile, with Hanbon and Coy…

Hanbon had dragged Coy all the way upstairs to her room, leaving him on the bed as she went to go get something.

Hanbon’s room was relatively comfy; it wasn’t too big or too small, and it smelled like cherry blossoms. She had a white vanity, which, if Coy remembers correctly, Anthony set up.

Speaking of Anthony, it made Coy wonder what Anthony would wear. Not that he was like, anticipating seeing Anthony’s Halloween costume, or anything like that… no, not at all.

Then another thing popped into Coy’s mind: Would Anthony want to see his Halloween costume? Which somehow led Coy to think about his so called ‘unrequited’ feelings.

Why would it even matter if Anthony liked his costume or not? It would only make things worse for Coy, knowing Anthony was all he could ask for. Coy would never get him on paper.

“Coy, Coy, Coy, Coy.” Hanbon jumped, holding a costume bag.

“Take this,” she said, handing the bag to Coy. “…and when you come back, I’ll do the rest.”

Coy nodded, walking outside of Hanbon’s room and into the bathroom, so he could change into the costume he'd been given.

Coy, now looking in the mirror, lifted his arms as his cape moved with them. Cool, Hanbon had given Coy a vampire costume. Possibly, one of the loudest costumes that Coy’d ever worn.

“Bon…” Coy sighed, shaking his head as he looked down slightly towards the sink. Well, Coy’s outfit wasn’t bad, it was just the fact that it was uncharacteristically attractive and attention-grabbing.

Hanbon swung open the bathroom door in an instant, “Coy, awww, this costume's perfect.”

“It’s different, for sure,” Coy said.

Hanbon’s brows furrowed. “Coy, if you aren’t comfortable with wearing it, then I’ll find something else.”

“It’s not uncomfortable; it just makes me more dressed up than I’d normally be.”

“Alright, now let’s go to my room so I can do your hair!!” Hanbon smiled, dragging Coy by his hand back to her room.

Hanbon knew her way with things, especially when it came to hair. She grabbed a black spray bottle, shaking it around Coy’s head as his gingery-brown hair soon turned black.

“Woahh…” Coy’s jaw had dropped, Hanbon made him look like a completely different person.

She smiled, “See! I told you, Coy!”

Coy took a closer look at Hanbon, who had on a black cat costume with whiskers drawn on her face. Of course, Hanbon would wear this, he thought to himself.

“Alright, Coy, ready to head out?”

Coy checked himself in the mirror one last time before leaving with Bon, “Yeah.”

They headed downstairs, quickly passing by Will.

“Oh, bye ‘Bon, bye Coy!” Will waved, nodding as he smiled.

Anthony, from the kitchen, had overheard. “Bye, Coy!— and Bon!”

“Bye!” Hanbon yelled.

The two of them stepped outside the house, setting their eyes on Hanbon’s car.

Will ran to the kitchen, “Do you think we’ll be late for the party, Anth?”

“Nahh…” Anthony shook his head, clearly showing sarcasm. “Maybe just by an hour…”

“I’ll get the mad scientists' costumes-thing!” yelled Will, his voice fading off somewhere in the house.

Anthony stood in the kitchen, his back against the counter as he sighed.

It’s honestly quite crazy that Coy is actually going to a party. The others and Anthony had tried to get him to go on many different occasions, but he never agreed. Maybe he had a change of heart, who knows…

“Here!” Will said, handing out Anthony his lab coat and boots.

“Thanks,” Anthony nodded, putting it on from the left sleeve.

“You excited?” Will asked innocently.

Anthony’s brows furrowed, “For what? A basic halloween party?” He then put on his right sleeve, tugging it as it clung to him.

Will shook his head, looking up at Anthony who was putting on his boots.

“I meant since Coy is coming,” Will stated.

Silence filled the room, Anthony’s reaction kicking in. “Huh?” Anthony’s head flew up as he almost fell from tying his boots.

In response, Will just shrugged. Anthony shoved Will’s shoulder back, rolling his eyes.

Will crossed his arms, “It’s nothing… nothing… Come on, let's go.”

Anthony squinted his eyes, “Yeah… let’s go…” He slipped on his goggles onto his head before heading out with Will.
