Work Text:
Answer the damn phone.
Minju hated that Yunah always took a while when it came to texting back.
It wasn’t for no reason though, they had been busy with promotions with little to no time to have any private conversations or a day off. From early morning shoots, afternoon runs, and late-night interviews, there was no energy to interact with each other by the end of the day.
Minju sprawled on the couch, watching her ceiling fan make circles over and over again. She couldn’t stop thinking about Yunah and her interaction with an extra on the set, the way they looked at each other a little too long, stayed a little too close to each other, and smiled like they’d been best friends for years.
“Don’t tell me you’re still hung about that thing with Yunah and that other girl,” Moka asks from the kitchen, where she was heating a cup of tea.
“What’re you talking about?” Minju replies immediately. “I’m over the situation. I’m not thinking about it.” She huffed while hugging a pillow, her phone sat idly on top with no notification from Yunah about her previous messages, consecutively texting passively aggressively about what happened.
“You’ve been glaring at the ceiling for a while, and you’ve been keeping that pillow in a chokehold position for a while now.” Moka points with her cup, hiding a smile behind as she takes a sip. Minju’s face felt hot from the answer, she wasn't going to deny it, obviously. Yunah is hers. Why was it so frustrating?
“She’s not even answering my texts.” Minju frowned as she checked her phone once more. “But, oh, she has time to go shopping with that blonde…”
“Someone’s jealous…” Moka sang out an annoying note that ringed on the last word.
Minju buried her face into the pillow, letting out a scream: this pillow did not do a good job concealing that scream.
“It’s groceries, Minju-yah.” Moka sighed. She sat next to Minju and offered her a cup, the steam filtered up her nose, warming the girl's icy temper. “They’ll be back tonight, you have plenty of time to… reflect on this blonde’s relationship with Yunah.”
A groan echoed from Minju’s body. “They’re coming here? Yunah and that- that extra?” She enunciated the “extra” as if it was a slur.
“Oh, you love sick girl, I’m sure Yunah will explain it.” Moka let out a short, unbelieving chuckle. “You might just start feeling dumb for being jealous.”
Minju took a sip, her thoughts still growing wary.
Yunah’s eyes should be on me.
I’m not jealous.
—
That day on set, Yunah was seated next to a girl. They had scripts together, but it wasn’t a lot, just small talk and the occasional hand-holding interactions. It wasn’t the script that Minju was frustrated about, it was the way they’d look at each other during the scene and the way they behaved around each other when the scene was over.
“It smells good, right?” The girl asked Yunah. She was squeezing lotion onto Yunah’s hands, adding a little too much. “Oh, sorry about that.”
“No worries, we can share!” Yunah eagerly spread lotion through her own palms and then grabbed the other girl's hands, spreading the lotion on her hands. “Now both our hands are soft.”
Minju was watching this from afar, she could feel her temperature rising. She gritted her teeth, watching as Yunah was now playing with the girl's hand, measuring them against each other and laughing when they saw that Yunah’s hand was bigger.
She never did that with me. And I’ve known her for longer than however long she’s been hanging around her. Why does this girl get to be so close to her anyway? Who does this extra think she is?
“And cut! Let’s move on to the next scene!” The Director announced. The set was now bustling with overlapping conversations of instruction, Yunah fled the area and moved towards the snacks table.
Minju stomped her way to the concessions stand, staring with a hard, fixed gaze, narrowing eyes drawn tight, sharpening the look like daggers.
“Yah! Yunah!” Minju gritted her teeth as she halted to a stop in front of the taller girl. Her voice made a few heads turn towards them, but they quickly looked away, not wanting to be involved.
Yunah slowly turned her head, mid-bite into a sandwich, her cheeks looked like a squirrel that had stuffed too many acorns inside. She looked at the angry bunny with a broad, confused glance, wondering if she ate someone else’s lunch by accident.
“Yes, Minju?” Yunah attempted to speak, her hand covering her mouth that was full of food. She fully turned to face Minju, her confused and peckish expression made Minju freeze for a quick second.
“What the hell was that?” Minju fumed, not hiding her irritation. She crossed her arms, scanning her face for any sign of guilt or fault, but as she kept scanning, she couldn’t help but find her cute.
“What was… what?” Yunah motioned with her hands before taking another bite of the sandwich. “Want a bite?” She offered an unbitten part of the food.
Before Minju could reply, the girl from earlier approached them, her blonde hair flaunting with every step. She was holding a tray of food: a vanilla milkshake with 2 straws buried within the whipping cream and a pile of fries that were drenched in ketchup and ranch.
“Yunah! I got the food, ready to go?” The girl grinned between Yunah and Minju, oblivious to the fact that it was clear that Minju was ready to pounce at the girl. “Want a fry?”
“Sure,” Yunah picked up a fry and offered it to Minju. “You hungry? Say ahhh.” Her hand moved in a plane motion as she gestured the fry towards Minju’s face, who was still sending telepathic death threats towards Yunah and already envisioned herself burying the girl.
What does she have that I don’t?
Minju swatted the fry out of Yunah’s hand, then walked away, not bothering to look at their faces. We’ve already kissed, gone on dates, and you’re using a snack break to talk to some girl? Minju scoffed as thoughts clouded her head.
She walked towards the next set where Moka was taking selfies and fixing her outfit. Her hair was bedazzled in too much glitter that she could probably light up as a glowstick.
“You look interesting.” Minju stifled a laugh as she approached the glitter doll. “Auditioning for fairy godmother or something?”
“Haha, very funny,” Moka said in a flat, sarcastic tone. “Might need to bibitty bobbity boo some of this on you so you can be quiet, you cavity licker.”
“Cavity licker? I haven’t heard that before,” Minju scoffed. She reached out and patted down the girl’s shirt that had caught some sprinkles of the glitter. “Does this… wash off?”
“I hope so…” Moka sighed as she swiveled her phone in different angles, looking for good lighting, not realizing the glitter was spreading onto Minju’s clothes. “Ugh, I don’t even want to think about it if it doesn’t.”
Minju saw the particles flying around them and instinctively looked down at her clothes, they were now flashing bits of white that reflected from the lights. She looked at her hands, they weren’t covered too much, but she knew if she touched anything else, the glitter would definitely leave a print.
“Looks like you did your magic already,” Minju let out a dry laugh accompanied by a wry smile, scanning the rest of their appearance. “Wait, stay still, there’s a hair on your nose.”
Minju tried to remove the strand of hair that was swaying across Moka’s face using her fingers, but she couldn’t risk having her glitter-stained hands ruin her makeup. Instead, she blew at Moka’s face, but the glitter was not budging at all.
“Whoa, Minju, your breath smells fresh.” Moka teased as she leaned closer.
“Yah! Don’t make it weird! Just stay still!” Minju laughed as she kept trying to blow air towards the girl's face.
Yunah saw this from afar, but from her perspective and angle, it looked as though she was kissing Moka.
She was mid-bite with her fries while talking to the girl, not listening to anything she was saying. Her eyes stayed glued to the glittering bunny that was too close for comfort. The girl noticed that her eyes were looking somewhere and followed the direction, now seeing the situation of Minju, who was now laughing and taking pictures with Moka.
“They look cute together, right?” The girl playfully teased, smiling as she glanced back and forth, watching Yunah stare too long at the duo from afar.
“Tch. Shut up and eat your food, Wonhee.” Yunah sneered while pushing the tray away. “Moka’s very pretty, Minju can kiss whoever she likes for all I care.”
Wonhee mimicked a tsss. “I got the milkshake for you and Minju since you both like vanilla, but I guess you both don’t want it.”
“Ah, just share it with Iroha.” Yunah groaned as she rubbed her temples.
“Wonhee-yah! Your bleached hair makes you look like another person!” Iroha jogged her way to Yunah and Wonhee, then jumped into the seat, cuddling close to Wonhee. “I just finished my individual shoot. The director should be calling you guys soon.”
They greeted each other as Wonhee scooted over the vanilla milkshake, and kissed Iroha on the cheek. They shared the shake in their own world, forgetting Yunah’s presence.
Yunah looked over where Minju and Moka were standing, only to see it was now empty.
“I’m not hungry anymore.” Yunah got up to leave, making her way to the makeup rooms. We’re not even together, there’s no reason to be upset about this. If those kisses and dates were just content for fans, then fine. Whatever.
The hallway felt eerie, deserted and… lonely.
She opened the door slowly and peeked inside, surprisingly, no one was there.
Yunah stared at herself in the mirror, pondering Minju’s action earlier. Minju wasn’t the type to lash out for no reason, especially when it came to being fed by her, they always shared food.
Did I say something wrong? Maybe I annoyed her too much…
…I mean she did make me drop a fry, so I must’ve done something.
After a little more thought, she started scanning and checking to make sure no one was in the room.
I’ll figure it out later. Yunah then plopped herself on the couch.
“AH!”
Yunah whipped her head towards the sound, clutching her arms together. “Hello?”
Minju was hiding under a blanket on the couch when Yunah unknowingly threw her entire body weight at her. They stared at each other in confusion for a couple of seconds too long.
“What are you doing?” Yunah accused. Her cheeks blushed at the sight of Minju, despite knowing the source of where the glitter came from: it really made her look like a princess. The glitter accented her collarbone and made her clothes look like she had come out of a storybook.
“Can you get off of me first?” Minju snarled, pulling the blanket off herself. “I wanted to be alone.”
Yunah stood up and attempted to dust off the glitter that was now covering both of them. She patted herself down and instinctively reached out to pat down Minju’s clothes.
“Okay, Yunah, stop.” Minju grabbed both of Yunah’s hands. “What are you doing here?” She stared at Yunah, taking notice of how she looked a bit sad.
Yunah looked down at their locked hands, her thumbs rubbed on Minju’s knuckles. “Do you like Moka?” she whispered, hanging her head low, not making eye contact.
“What are you talking about?” Minju furrowed her eyebrows. Gears slowly tinkered and wired in her head before clicking into place.
Oh.
Oh?
“I didn’t know you were the jealous type…” Minju lowered her posture to Yunah’s level, trying to catch her attention. She tilted her head with curiosity as their eyes met, a small smile forming. Their breathing slowed, but their pulses were accelerating, both of them could feel the beating through their hands.
“Do you like her or not?” Yunah asked, her volume rose with anticipation. She straightened her posture and decreased the gap between them, bringing their locked hands up to their chests. “Tell me, please?”
“What’s going on with you?” Minju stared at the cheetah who looked ready to start pleading on her hands and knees. “I don’t like Moka like that.”
“Really?”
“Yunah…I like–”
“Kiss me.” Yunah interrupted, her breath cutting out, attention darting across her face from her eyes to her lips.
“What?” Minju’s eyebrows did a quick jump.
As Yunah leaned forward, the door swung open. A blonde entered.
“Yunah? There you…” Wonhee said out of breath. She saw Yunah and Minju holding hands, standing too close to be just a conversation, the walls around the 3 felt like they were now observing the situation. “Oh… uh, the director called for us…”
Yunah stared at Wonhee, an eye twitching as she pressed her lips into a straight line.
Minju stared at the blonde girl, her mood ruined instantly.
“Just… meet me there…” Wonhee slowed and backed away while glancing back and forth between them. Her footsteps faded into the echoing noise.
The duo looked back at each other slowly, Minju loosened her grip around Yunah’s hands and dropped them to her side. A slight twitch followed as she flexed her hand from already missing her skin.
Yunah’s face did a small flinch from the move, she didn’t know what she did wrong, but she couldn't argue within their short time together. Her fingers slightly twitched before slowly retracting against her palm, she looked down once more.
“Go.” Minju punched the word out of her throat. She turned away from Yunah and sat back down on the couch, covering herself with the blanket again.
Yunah’s eyes flickered in her peripheral view, watching her walk away. Her heart ached, wanting to reach out to kiss her, wanting to take her away for the day and spend time with each other, wanting to just have time to admire her without everything else in the way.
Minju watched Yunah as she exited the room, discreetly closing the door. She felt a pit of tar build up in her chest, her heart winced at every pump. The way Yunah looked at her, not in a teasing way but in a vulnerable stare- maybe she had been too harsh.
Yunah stood on the other side of the closed door, her forehead pressed against it. She wanted to make things right between them. An idea struck her: after months of hard work, they were guaranteed a day off, and it was only a few days away.
I know what to do.
— To the present moment.
A knock sounded through the door, followed by a sound of keys jingling. Minju and Moka focused their attention on the sound. Moka got up from her seat and opened the door, revealing a struggling Yunah who was hugging a bag of groceries in a frozen position, holding the keys.
“Ah– Moka-yah!” Yunah greeted her as she walked inside and headed towards the kitchen, placing the groceries down on the counter. “Thank you, my back was killing me…”
Wonhee and Iroha followed far, empty-handed, but the atmosphere was full of their words discussing what small, insignificant things fascinate them.
“Bread fascinates you?” Iroha asks, scratching her head. “You can make… toast and sandwiches.”
“Bread is like a weird mix of dead plants, hear me out.” Wonhee stands on her toes, trying to emphasize her point. “If you give it water, it will soften. If you don’t give it water, it becomes stale and hard. If you leave it overnight, it grows mold.”
“...Right. And your sources are?” Iroha raises an eyebrow, she starts unloading the groceries.
“My gut!” Wonhee exclaims proudly until a loud grumble announces itself from within her stomach. “You didn’t hear that.”
“Your gut indeed.” Iroha let out a chuckle as she handed her a bag of bread. “Food for thought.”
“Weirdos.” Moka cleared her throat as she followed them in putting groceries away.
Moka noticed Yunah fidgeting with something in one of the bags, she peeked over and saw a tub of vanilla ice cream with what looked to be a matching set of spoons. Moka then looked over at Minju, who moved from her spot and was now leaving the room.
Moka nudged Yunah’s ribcage. “Go talk to her, we’ll take it from here.”
She looked up and smiled at her, taking out the tub and spoons. “Thanks again, Moka-yah”
Yunah hurriedly followed after Minju, stopping her in the dark hallway. “Jagiya, wait, let’s talk!”
Minju halted her steps, then turned around with her arms crossed. She judged her up and down, the messy bun with a few strands sticking out, hands holding a tub of ice cream and 2 spoons decorated with cats, her mouth in a nervous smile, and her eyes pleading for an accepting answer. Her heart felt lighter seeing Yunah always being enthusiastic to see her.
And damn did she look good begging.
“Alright. Let’s talk.” Minju said finally, refraining from showing amusement. She kept her face neutral as she slowly took a step forward, noticing Yunah’s throat bobbing.
Yunah gulped at this sight, sexy without trying, damn.
"Since when were you two this close?"
“Who?”
“Don’t play dumb.” Minju’s eyes twitched. “I’m talking about that blonde from that day.”
“That blonde?...” Yunah tilted her head. “Oh, you mean Wo–”
Minju held up a finger. “I don’t want to know her name. How long?”
Yunah realized Minju didn’t see the blonde girl’s resemblance to Wonhee. Or with the fact that they were the same person, and she didn’t even recognize her.
“Since our trainee era?” Yunah bit her lip, trying to hide a smirk, to no avail.
“Trainee era? What are you talking about?” Minju knitted her eyebrows together.
Yunah leaned down, a smile played on her face. “That girl is Wonhee.”
A-ha.
“You couldn’t recognize her, could you?” Yunah leaned on the wall, face full of ego. “Minju-yah… you are the jealous type.”
Yunah’s shoulder began shaking as her lips broke into a triumphant smile, a laugh echoed throughout the hallway.
Minju’s breath hitched, Yunah wouldn’t ever be that touchy with someone she didn’t know. Thoughts were connecting the dots: Yunah wouldn’t ever share food unless it was with the members, and she definitely wouldn’t be spending her time with another girl.
“Shut up. What are you laughing at?” Minju attempted to stand out, her body betraying her emotion, her stone-cold statue posture now melted into a slouch. “I don't see anything funny.”
“You're cute…”
Moka watched them bicker from the kitchen, she smiled at the reaction as she approached them. “You should’ve seen the look on your face, Minju-yah!”
Minju leaned on Yunah and peeked over her shoulder. “Did you know that was Wonhee?”
“I mean yeah, if you didn't focus so much on Yunah all the time, you'd have noticed Wonhee’s been shedding her bleached hair around the dorm.” Moka motioned her hands towards the floor, faint strands of yellow hair trailing around their feet.
Minju looked beyond the kitchen and saw Iroha talking to the blonde, assessing the situation: Wonhee had indeed bleached her hair, and Iroha was kissing Wonhee’s hands. They turned towards the trio in the hallway and presented a smile, unaware of what was happening. Minju then redirected her attention to the smug Moka.
“Oh, you…” Minju gestured her hands in a strangulation pose.
“I bet you feel dumb for feeling jealous, huh?” Moka leaned her face towards Minju, sticking out a tongue.
“You know what, come here–” Minju tried to lunge towards Moka, but Yunah grabbed her by the waist, and they walked away from the commotion.
“Okay, okay, we’re still talking, ignore the peanut gallery,” Yunah smirked before beelining to her room. Minju pouted at both of them before resigning against Yunah’s grip.
They entered Minju’s room, the air smelled of woody accents with a floral undertone, warm and sweet. The duo sat on the bed, Minju sat with her back against the headboard, hugging her legs and resting her chin above her knees. Yunah sat criss-cross in front of her, holding the ice cream and spoons together like a peace offering.
The air between them felt tense, not sure what else to say. Yunah looked at the ice cream, wondering if she should offer a bite now or say something first. Minju stared at the matching spoons with a small smile in hiding.
“Are you still mad at me?” Yunah broke the silence, attention directed towards Minju’s gaze. “I got these for you. I’m sorry.”
Minju blinked slowly, staring at Yunah. The feeling of guilt spread in her head, being mean towards her, an honest mistake on her part for not thinking properly. She reached out and touched Yunah’s hand.
“No, I’m sorry.” Minju leaned closer, firmly interlocking her fingers with her hand. “I shouldn’t have pushed you away… I wasn’t in my right mind.”
“No, Minju, let me be sorry.” Yunah breathed out as she cupped Minju’s face, her hand was cold from holding onto the ice cream for so long, but she didn’t mind. “I should’ve made this more clear from the start.”
Minju’s breathing paused silently, her heart started to accelerate, palms slowly felt sweaty for some reason and her mouth fell open a bit. She stared at Yunah, the gap between their faces still felt too far apart.
“Minju… I like you.” Yunah said carefully. “Not for content or attention. I really… I really like you.”
Minju’s eyes widened, swallowing a gulp, she knew she liked Yunah, and vice versa- Yunah liked her too, but hearing it coming from her voice and the way they stared at each other: it was still surreal.
“I like you too, Yunah.” Minju inched closer, her breath getting caught at the pronunciation of the name. “I really, really like you too.”
“And also…” Yunah smiled. “Will you honor me by being your girlfriend?”
Minju's breath hitched, no sound escaping her lips as she leaned in, fluttering her eyes closed and parting her lips.
Then Yunah pressed a cold, wet feeling against her lips.
Minju opened her eyes abruptly, looking down and seeing a spoon of vanilla ice cream that was melting.
“Give me an answer otherwise, it’s going to drip on your bed.” Yunah chuckled as she tried to push the scoop into Minju’s mouth. Minju stared at her in disbelief as she took in the ice cream.
Professional rage baiter, Noh Yunah.
“You idiot, it’s yes, obviously!” Minju muffled out with ice cream still in her mouth. Laughter drowned in the flavor. She then took the other spoon, scooped a big portion, and charged it towards Yunah’s mouth. Toppling over each other, Minju sat on top of Yunah.
“Now, how about you? Eat this if you’re my girlfriend!” Minju burst into laughter, still swerving the spoon around Yunah’s face.
Yunah grabbed Minju’s wrist steadily and chomped on the spoon, her lips collecting the ice cream. “Mm, delicious!”
Yunah then pulled Minju down to her mouth, their lips tasted of cold sweetness, accompanied by licks around the corners of their lips.
You’re finally mine, they both thought.
