Work Text:
Phillip had never felt so tired. Not tired as in sleepy, mind you, but the sort of tiredness that sinks into your bones. The sort that leaves you rotting in bed, without the energy to do much else but sleep. It had been like that for so long, it was a wonder he didn't notice it sooner.
He didn't know how long he had been lying there, on his side facing the wall. He hoped Howard hadn't stuck around to see him like this: depressed and pathetic, not when he was making so much effort to change for Phil.
It wasn't that he didn't want to help, it was just... complicated. He had spent the better part of his life learning and studying and interning and fighting for a way to get Katie back. He had let himself spiral into an obsession that nearly cost the whole world their lives. The lives he had taken in her name. The blood on his hands could never be washed away, no matter how long he scrubbed his hands raw.
Howard was being so patient with him, Angelique too, but it was only a matter of time before they realize that he really is too far gone.
He didn't want to do this anymore. He just wanted it to be over
He heard the door gently open. "Phillip, dear? Are you awake?" Called out Howard, worried for his friend's sake.
Phillip force himself up. "Yes, I'm awake Howie." He answered. He looked at Howard, who was dressed for the day in plain slacks and a pink undershirt. Phil never cared for pink, but if there was ever anyone he thought it looked good on, it was Howard. His left ankle was in a brace, weaker than the other after it regrew (a whole different story that they were sorting out as they adjusted). In his hand was a plate of slightly overcooked eggs.
Phillip had been bedrotting through breakfast.
"It's not the best, but I made food for you! There's water and coffee on the counter too." Howard sat on the bed next to him and smiled proudly, presenting his dish. It looked considerably better than how he used to cook, so it was probably edible.
"Thanks, I probably would have forgotten." Phillip took the plate. He wasn't hungry, but he ate it anyways. It wasn't half bad.
Phil would just have to push through this. Howard and Angelique still needed him. He could stay a little longer.
