Work Text:
The call came late at night just as sae was settling into bed. As he saw the number he sighed as he clicked on the receiver.
“Hey hey are you there” came the voice from the other side. “Hm yea I’m here what do you want” sae said sharply eager to get back to bed. Bunny started rambling over the phone. “I. Red you to come… you need to see… your not gonna believe this… sae sae you need to get over here now”
he sounded manic and sae shifted in bed sitting against the head board as his tired mind struggled to catch up. He cut him off. “Bunny if you don’t calm down I’m hanging up” the noise in the other line went silent instantly and sae could hear him breathing heavily trying to regain his lost breath.
“bunny i told you not to call me again” he was cut off “no sae come on i really need you to listen”
“ok you need to stay calm” he paused “have you taken anything at all that you shouldn’t have” the other man quickly gave the negative “no no not at all I’m just exited that’s all I’m exited to show you” “I thought we agreed that we wern’t going to see each other anymore”
sae tried to keep his voice calm over the phone hoping his energy would cross over to the other side. Even though they’d been broken up for three months sae still cared about Bunny and he was worried for him now with this odd behaviour” “what is it that you want to show me” “it’s a surprise” was the reply. “Bunny” he warned but the other kept going. “I’ve been working hard ever since I found it and now I’ve finally figured it out and I need you to come and see as soon as possible”
sae sighed and shook his head as he thought. He wasn't particularly scared for his own safety bunny had never displayed any behaviour that might made him feel in danger even when they broke up it was just that he had hoped that the other had been able to move on in life after the break up and seeing him still hung up made him sad.
while the relationship hadn’t worked out sae didn’t have any ill will towards the other which is why he finally decided to indulge him. “Alright I’ll come” he was cut off again “oh sae your not gonna believe it I promise you won’t regret it”
sae waited for him to finish. “I’m tired.. I want to sleep, I’ll come in the morning and if you ask for me any earlier I won’t come at all” he said it calmly but he made sure to be firm. Bunny paused for a second before agreeing with an exasperated sigh.
once the call ended sae settled back down into bed but as he lay for hours staring at the ceiling he found that on that night sleep refused to claim him.
———————————
sae was so exhausted the next morning he almost forgot about the late night promise he made. He considered calling Bunny up and telling him he’d come another day but something about the man’s tone of voice had freaked him out. When they were together neither of them had been very good at expressing their emotions to one another, it was one of the reasons they decided to end it.
last night Bunny had spoken with more emotion then he’d ever heard from him. He’d told sae that he found something he wanted him to see. Maybe he was using this thing as a distraction to keep him from moving on and if sae went to see it he’d finally let things go so he could go out and find someone new.
sae hoped that was the case he really wouldn’t know what to do if there was something more going on. He drank a cup of apple juice from a carton at the back of his fridge and forced down an orange even though he always felt a little nauseous for the first hour or so after waking up. Today he was sure he would need the extra energy.
Sae had to admit he really was curious about what Bunny had found. From the sounds of it he’d had it for a while but only recently found something out about it. Maybe it was an old safe or locked box owned by one of his long dead family members, one that he’d only just been able to open?.
sae pulled a long sleeved burnt orange jumper over his head before realising it had been a gift from bunny. He put a blue one on instead not wanting his ex to get the wrong idea about why he was coming over. It was only morbid curiosity and concern for a friend nothing more. Just as he was tying his shoelaces he got a text asking if he was on his way. He sighed deeply, he always was impatient.
sae had to take two separate busses with a 10 minute walk at the last stop since bunny’s house was a little outside of his town. Sae did have a car, one given to him by his parents not too long ago when he got his license but he was letting his little brother borrow it it for his own driving lessons. He’d only let his gave it under threat of death if he damaged it at all and sae told him that he would know if he ever used it to cart around his little friends on joyrides.
bunny had friend to text him twice more since he left the house till sae had to remind him of his warning from last night. He wasn’t serious, he could turn back at that point but he knew bunny wouldn’t take his chances not if he realy wanted sae there.
It was nearly November and Sae shivered in his jacket as he walked up the long drive to bunny’s house. Bunny lived in a fairly large house which he’d inherited from his mother when she ducked off three years ago to live in Greece with a new lover. At the time bunny had said he didn’t care since his mother was hardly there for his childhood anyway and never stood between him and his father but sae could always see how much the loss affected him.
the house was fairly large though he wouldn’t call it a mansion and it had a fair amount of land around it which is why it took so long to walk up to the front door. Apparently it had been in the family for generations and you could tell the architecture was old as fuck.
Bunny opened the door almost immediately after knocking which made him suspect that he’d just been sitting by the front door waiting for sae to arrive. When the door swung open bunny stepped forwards till he was so close to sae that he only had a view of his broad chest, he had to look up and take a step back to get a good look on his face.
he hadn’t seemed to have lost much if any weight but his skin seemed a little paler and he had dark rings and a slightly manic look in his eyes.
“your here” he whispered almost like he couldn’t believe it before grabbing sae’s arm at the elbow and dragging him through the from door. Sae stood in a daze for a moment trying to catch his bearing's while bunny locked the door but just as he hit steady on his feet bunny grabbed him again and began to march him through the hallways of his house all the way up the door that led down to the old basement.
Sae had asked once about that basement but bunny had only told him that he himself had never gone down and apparently it was just filled with old junk.
sae grabbed a panel attached to the wall and pulled back from the strong grip. Bunny whipped his head around and tugged harder “come on sae it’s just down here”
sae was breathing heavily but stood his ground. “Bunny you need to calm down your freaking ne out can’t you just explain what’s happening” bunny immediately let him go and stumbled back like he’d been struck. Sae rubbed a spot on his arm which he was sure would bruise while bunny spluttered.
“sae I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that that it’s just… I’m really exited that I can finally show you” sae took a step back and screed his eyes shut. “What is it you want to show me.. why can’t you just tell me what’s going on” bunny ran his hands down his face and muttered something to himself that sae couldn’t quite catch “ok ok please just let ne show it, you won’t believe me if I just tell you”
sae stared at the floor before relenting. “Ok fine just show me” bunny smiled relived before grabbing sae’s cold hand and leading him down the stairs making sure to hold him far more carefully than the first time.
sae focussed on the rhythmic creaking sound of the old stairs and the feel of his jumper as he ran the fingers of his free hand over the seams while bunny explained how he’d found this thing. The basement was far cleaner than sae was expecting.
The room seemed to have been completely cleared out and there were now bulbs in the light fixture. One wall was covered in whiteboards full of messy script and what appeared to be crude maps of a place sae had never seen it definitely wasn’t of the house.
“so” he started as they reached the middle of the room “not lo g after you left I was down here investigating since I’d never been down before and I wanted to see if there was anything I hadn’t seen before” sae flinched at the mention of their breakup but otherwise didn’t react.
bunny walked up to a section of the wall which had been outlined with tape to look like a doorway. “Well I was just about to lean over on this wall when well… I went right through” he lifted on of his hands and pressed in into the wall but instead of coming into contact with hard plaster his arm instead went right through the wall as if there was nothing there.
sae eyebrows lifted so far they were hidden by his fringe and he gasped far too loudly. Bunny only laughed and beckoned him closer his arm still embedded in the wall. “I fell right through you see and what I found on the other side… well you have to see it to believe it but I promise it’s gonna blow your mind”
“I think it’s already blown” he whispered as he finally reached bunny and tentatively lifted his hand hand up to the wall that was seemingly not really a wall. “Is this some kind of trick? How the hell ate you doing it?.
Bunny laughed “see for yourself if I’m joking sae come on I promise you it’s safe I’ve been doing it everyday nearly ever since we broke up” he got a wierd look in his eyes when he said that before shaking his head and smiling again but sae was too focused on the wall to notice the oddity.
after a minute of debate sae finally put his own hand through the doorway. He gasped as it went right through. It didn’t even feel like there was anything in front on him of him at all and fir a moment he wondered if the wall was only a trick of the eyes.
bunny gave him a reassuring smile before completely disappearing through the doorway. Sae panicked and reached his hand further through catching on bunny clothes to try and pull him back through.
He felt a large slightly scarred hand wrap around him own and give him a tight squeeze with reminded him of late nights spent together and cold walks around the grounds where bunny would have to warm him up since sae always ran cold.
the hand gave him slight tug and sae found himself walking through himself even when every cell in his body screamed at him to turn back. That something was seriously wrong.
the place he saw on the other side was something between painfully familiar and completely alien to him. The place resembled what could be the halls of an empty office building with light yellow wallpaper and cream carpet. It was a large room and there was a large opening in the far wall which led in even further down a long corridor.
sae squeezed bunny’s hand tighter as he felt anxiety squeeze his chest. “What is this place.. did your family build this” bunny shook his head “I don’t think so… this place it was made long before us and long after we were gone” “huh what’s that mean” he asked but bunny only shrugged and said it didn’t matter.
as bunny lad him by the hand deeper into the building sae latched his other hand onto the fabric of bunny’s shirt over the elbow and clutched it tightly. “How long does it go on for” he asked as bunny led him through room after room sine full of old clothes and furniture while others seemed to have random objects phased halfway through walls. “Maybe it’s infinite.. it wouldn’t surprise me” sae scoffed “that’s not possible” but bunny didn’t answer.
“I think we’ve gone too far in bunny what if we get lost” he tried to pull the larger man back but he didn’t budge. “We won’t get lost I promise I spent every day down here for months and now after I figured it out properly I know I can never get lost down here”
sae didn’t really know what he meant all he could think about was the feeling of his heart battering against his chest and the think smog of uneasiness that seemed to wrap around his face and reach down his delicate throat almost completely constricting his breathing. “Bunny I think I’m getting scared this is all too much I want you to take me back out”
bunny grabbed him firmly by the shoulder and pulled him tightly to his front shushing him quietly. “You don’t have to be saved sae it’s alright we can go back now, I think you’ve seen enough for now” they made the walk back to the doorway far quicker than the way in, by the time they reached the doorway again sae felt almost ready to start running.
sae threw himself at the doorway and pressed his back against another wall sliding down to the floor while keeping his eyes on bunny who was staring at him with an odd sort of fondness. That weird place hadn’t seemed to freak him out at all even with the constant buzzing, repeating hallways and the constant feeling of being watched
sae guessed that maybe bunny was just used to it since he’d been inside so often but sae was sure that if he’d found the same place in his own house he would not be so eager to explore. In fact he would probobky start looking into moving house out of fear of something crawling out in the early hours of the morning while he slept.
the pair stared at each other in silence for a while until bunny began to make his way back to the basement stairs. “Come on sae I’ll make you a cup of tea to calm your nerves” sae pulled himself up the wall and speed walked up behind bunny making sure to not look back at the mysterious doorway at all.
————————————
twenty minutes later sae found himself sat on a plush couch his knees up to his chest and a blanket thrown over his legs while he sipped at a cup of flavoured tea. Bunny always took his strong and plain so sae had no explanation for why he had this type of tea unless he’d kept what sae left behind when he moved out.
sae implored bunny to tell him all that he’d seen in the mysterious place in his adventures. He said that for the most part the place was much like what sae had seen with stretching halls, odd openings and random junk thrown around but apparently if you wandered long enough you could find other places too.
one such place he explained looked like the swimming centres sae visited as a child except if every single swimming centre had come together and joined into one. He detailed bodies of water that were infinitely deep and seemed to stretch on forever and halls so dark that not even a powerful torch could create any visibility almost like the walls absorbed all light like a jack hole.
to sae it all sounded so terrifying that he never wanted to go back but bunny spoke about the place with an excitement and interest that he’d never sensed to show before not even while dating sae. When sae said he wanted bunny to find a new love he hadn’t really meant an infinite, impossible scary office building but to each their own.
———————————
it took a great deal of convincing on bunny’s part to get sae to go with him back into the place. He understood that it was all new to the smaller boy but bunny was sure that once he just got used to the oddness of it all he would love it just as much as him.
it was odd seeing sae sit on his couch drink tea after so long with no contact. It was the kind of domesticity he’d grown used to over the past few years and missed in sae’s absence.
when sae first suggested their break up three months ago Bunny had accepted without much of a fight. Their relationship had been pretty on again off again so he figured this would be the same way it never once occurred to him that sae had been dead serious.
When he’d first found the place a few days after sae left he’d still been convinced that he’d be coming back in a week or two but as time attached on with no communication he slowly realised that he had made a mistake.
sae may have thought that the breakup had been completely mutual and two sided but what he didn’t know is that bunny still fully beloved them to be together. He just knew that once he showed sae how cool the place he’d found was he’d want to stay so they could explore it together so now dealing with sae’s resistance to go back in bunny could feel his frustration bubbling just beneath the surface.
there had been a couple of instances in the past hour where bunny had been ready to snap at sae for his continued refusal to comply but he knew that would do him no good it would just scare him off. Bunny knew that he needed to be sensitive about this and pull him in step by step. He knew that if he just stayed patient and careful eventually everything would fall right into place.
———————————
the second time sae went through the doorway he felt slightly more prepared yet just as apprehensive. As they made their way deeper sae made sure to hold tightly to bunny’s hand and stay half hidden behind his shoulder. He looked around as they walked. Everything there seemed so mundane and yet everything was off some things in more subtler ways than others.
at one point that pair walked past what seemed like a completely normal stop sign other than the fact to was merged half into the carpet but on closer inspection he found that the letter had been painted on backwards.
Another room was dark and completely empty save for a lit up Christmas tree in the middle. Sae had no idea all what power those tree lights were attached to for them to actually be glowing. It seemed impossible to compared to the rest of the place it wasn’t all that shocking.
they walked in near full silence for nearly an hour and while sae could feel his anxiety begin to climb again bunny still had the same vaguely pleased expression he had been wearing since they entered for the second time. It was only after passing an empty window frame and glass door that led to more wall did something finally happen.
while walking sae thought he heard what sounded like footsteps behind them. He turned around to look and at first he thought that maybe it was his imagination till a dark figure slipped in from behind the corner.
sae instantly let out a scream telling bunny to run before pulling away to bolt down the corridor. He didn’t get far before a hand clamped around the coller of his jumper dragging him back while two strong arms pressed him tightly against bunny’s chest. Sae screamed and cried tears seeping into the fabric of bunny’s shirt as sae clawed at him and begged him to run.
bunny stayed calm shushing him quietly and lightly stroking his hair as he leaned them up against a wall. Sae became even more hysterical when he felt a large presence loom behind his back far too close for comfort. “Shh sae you need to calm down it’s just one of the things that lives here it’s friendly I promise”
he had to whisper the same thing for about 10 minutes until sae finally became exhausted enough to stop fighting and actually listen to the other. “You didn’t tell me anything about things living in here” he gasped still terrified of the thing behind him. “I know I’m sorry I thought you’d be less freaked out if you just ran into one so you could see how friendly they are but I guess I was wrong” sae laughed wetly without humour. “You think”
bunny continued to run soothing circles on his back as he calmly introduced him to the thing behind him “come on sae turn around don’t you want to look” sae shook his head firmly. “Oh come in you’ll hurt its feeling if you don’t say hello” sae continued to refuse and bunny sighed like he was speaking to a particularly stubborn child but he still took mercy on him and told the thing to leave.
sae’s muscles only untensed once he was sure the thing was long gone. He looked up at bunny who looked vaguely annoyed but it was sae who was now angry. “What the hell was that” he hissed pulling away from the other. “I already told you it lives here” sae shook his head in disbelief “I can’t believe you wouldn’t tell me about that did it not occur to you that maybe I wouldn’t like seeing a monster appear behind me”
bunny huffed “it wasn’t that bad really your upset for no reason it didn’t even touch you” sae was in disbelief. “This is it I knew I should have come back I remember full well why I left now” bunny looked confused “what’s that supposed to mean”
“THIS!” Sae threw his arms into the air. “You always acted like this. You never explain things to me and when I get emotional about something you just think I’m being dramatic and when I don’t want to do something you make me anyway even though it always ends badly just like this has” he stormed off down a hall hands over his ears so he couldn’t hear bunny’s reply.
after this he was going straight home and blocking bunny’s number right away. Maybe he would stay with his brother fur a few days to recover and hopefully forget all about seeing bunny again and going to the place.
sae only made it feel few turns and corridors when he made eye contact with a man in full scientific gear with a clipboard in his hand.
as soon as they both noticed each other they froze in shock.
——————————
they stared in complete shocked silence. This was a real person there was no way they were anything like the monster that had showed up before. Sae’s whole body tensed like a spring ready to bolt at any moment. The man infront of him was tall maybe the same height as bunny, he was well groomed from what sae could tell through all his gear. He wondered where this man had come from. There was no way this guy had walked in through bunny’s basement so sae figured he must have come from another doorways someplace else.
the other man raised both hands in a placating manner like he was facing a spooked animal. The man tried to take a step forwards but sae flinched so hard ready to run he immediately stopped in his tracks. “What the hell” he heard the man whisper under his breath before clearing his throat properly.
he addressed sae “do you speak English” he sighed in clear relief when sae nodded his head. “Ok kid can you tell me your name” sae shook his head it was probably a bad idea to hand out his personal info to random people in weird side dimensions. “Ok ok your Asian right maybe Japanese do you live there? Is that where you came in here from”
sae shook his head again but refused to answer where he was living. He and bunny lived in Spain but he didn’t want this man trying to find them when he went back to the outside world from his own doorway. The man liked frustrated with the lack of answers but it was clear he didn’t want to scare sae away.
“are you here alone” he asked “or is someone here with you.. who else knows about this place” sae nodded sharply he didn’t see the point in lying about bunny and he thought knowing sae wasn’t alone could dissuade the man from trying anything. “Ok ok” the man whispered he seemed to be trying to make sense of what was happening just as much as sae. Maybe he hadn’t seen anyone else in here before either the place was big enough that it made sense.
“alright my name is Adam im 38 years old and I’m from California in America, can you tell my anything about yourself” sae scanned him with his eyes before quietly speaking up. “I’m 21” he whispered and the man nodded. “Ok cool that’s a start, I’m going to have to ask you to come with me kid if that’s alright”
sae tensed again finally ready to run when bunny finally made his appearance. “Sae sae … where are you… I’m sorry ok” he continued to shout in as he jogged around the corner. When he saw the man he froze just like sae had a few moments before. He grabbed sae and pulled him behind his back. “Who the hell are you” he demanded and the man realising he was outnumbered took a step back.
“I’m sorry I’m not here to hurt your friend” “partner” bunny cut him off. Sae glared at him but decided now wasn’t the time to argue about labels. “Ok that’s ok” he said “we were just talking right… sae was it” sae nodded keeping one hand bunched in the back of bunny’s shirt when he felt him shift forwards.
“talking about what, what do you want” he said. The man pulled a card out of his pocket and handed it to bunny. Sae looked at it over his shoulder. It looked official looking like it was from the government or something and the info on it confirmed what he’d told sae before.
“I work for a foundation over in America, it’s my job to research this place that’s all and I would really like to interview you all after all your the first people I’ve seen come in through another entrance” bunny considered the man’s words as he shifted sae further behind him when he saw the man’s eyes on him.
he air was tense and thick for a long time and fir a while sae was worried that one of the two men would go to attack the other but to his relief bunny just sighed and relaxed his shoulders. “Fine yes we’ll come with you as long as you leave us alone after” “good” the man said with a smile that sae though was meant to look comforting but in this place it just creeped him out even more.
sae followed quietly behind bunny as they made their way through endless yellow halls. Adan occasionally tried to make small talk but bunny either just ignored him or answered in grunts. After a long time they came to a place that had obviously been tampered with by other humans.
Adam led them through multiple security gates and other men in similar scientific attire who stared at the pair with wide confused eyes. They were led to small facility within the place. The walls were thick with metal panelling And on the outside of some of the security doors sae saw what looked like deep claw marks.
Adam eventually stopped at what looked like a small reception where he explained the current situation to a middle aged woman who reshared the pair with the same bewilderment they had been subjected to the whole time. Some calls were made and eventually a woman came out and asked them both to separate so they could be interviewed separately.
that didn’t sound like a particularly good idea to sae but when he tried to stop bunny from waking away from him he just grabbed his shoulders and whispered in his ear “just tell them everything you know alright I promise I’ll fix this before you know it” sae looked at him with wide eyes but against his better judgment he decided to trust him.
he sent bunny one last desperate look as they were both led down separate corridors.
—————————
sae sat nervously in a metal chair across from an American man who looked to be about 40. Sae rubbed his fingers against the light fabric of his jeans and pulled the dark sheaves of his jumper far down over his hands. While they were the only people in the room there was a very obvious one sided mirror taking up a full wall.
“alright your name is sae correct” he nodded “alright my name is John and all I want to do is ask a few questions about this place you’ve come to us that alright with you” sae nodded. “Ok from what country did you enter this place from” sae hesitated for a moment before just deciding to be honest “we came in through Spain”
John nodded and jotted something down on a clipboard. “And how many separate times have you entered this place” “only two I just found out about it this morning” John nodded “and is this the same for the man you were with” he shook his head “no he told me he found this place three months ago and from what he said he’s been in many times”
“alright so he found it first, why did he decided to tell you of all people about it I assume no one else knows?” sae nodded “well we’re in a relationship of sorts I guess, I’m probably the person he trusts the most at the moment”.
“Ok that’s interesting, the man who found you told me that you were both separate when he found you and that the other man was looking for you can we tell me why that is” sae squirmed in his seat. “We were having a bit of an argument” John motioned for him to continue “I was just upset that he wasn’t taking my fear seriously enough when that thing showed up”
the man paused his writing and his eyes flicked to people that sae was sure were watching from behind the glass. The man thought for a second before continuing carefully. “You came into contact with one of the creatures that inhabit this place is that what your telling me” sae nodded “and your still alive” John said it mostly to himself but sae caught it. “Huh what the fuck is that supposed to mean”
the man waved his hand “nothing nothing, would you describe your encounter for me in as much detail as you can for me” he nodded “well we’re were waking about, then I heard footsteps behind me and when I turned I saw this great black figure round the corner” he shuddered as he remembered it.
“I tried to run but bunny my friend he grabbed me and he pulled my head to him so I couldn’t look at the thing… he told me that it was all safe and that it was friendly but I was still really freaked out till the thing went away” John looked completely gobsmacked “and how close would you say it got without hurting you” “I was so close that I could feel its breathing down my neck”
“ok sae I’m going to tell you something that might contend what your friend told you” sae motioned for him to speak and John took a deep breath. “To tell you the truth we don’t know anybody who’s physically seen one of these creature and lived to tell the tale, their extremely agressive it’s completely uncharacteristic for one not to attack and by the sounds of your story your friend has run into them before too without getting hurt”
sae was confused and thought for a minute. “Then why didn’t it hurt us” John shrugged “I have no idea I’ve never heard of something like this..” he paused and looked sheepish for a moment “I think we may have to keep you and your friend here for a while longer while we figure out what’s going on” sae burst up from his seat and took a step back nearly tripping over his chair “no no hell no that’s not what you said, they told me I could go home right after this” John stood up calmly and raised his hands. He had just opened his mouth to speak again when an alarm started to blare.
——————————
bunny rested his face on his hands as he listened to the ticking of Adam’s watch. They had sent sae off with some other guy to do his interview. The man was currently writing something down on his clipboard and sending subtle had gestures to the people watching through the one sided glass.
“So your name is bunny correct” he nodded “and you found this place three months ago in your family home” he nodded again. “Most people would be scared to explore such a place, why is it that, that fear doesn’t seem to apply to you”
he shrugged “because I do t find it all that scary… the way I see it’s a place I can finally find what I want” “and what is that” Adam asked. He smiled widely “since everything seems to be here than I thought what’s stopping me from finding freedom with the person I love”
Adam paused “as in love do you mean the person you brought in here a day ago” he nodded again. “ you’ve know about this place for three months without telling him, why wait” “isn’t it obvious” Adam looked confused “I had to figure it out first of course, I’m this this place it’s like a big maze or a puzzle to solve and I needed time to solve it before I could share it all with sae” Adam let his glasses fall to the end of his nose “and what happened when you solved the puzzle”
bunny stood up “I figured out how to read the walls, how to become a part of this place to make it become mine” an alarm started to blare and Adam shot out of his seat looking nervously around. “What have you done” bunny laughed “what I haven’t done anything but I don’t think this place takes too kindly to people like you taking what belongs to it”
the music of screams and the sound of tearing metal echoed through the halls and right through the cracks in the interrogation room door. Adam ran to the wall and began to pound at the glass screaming for help as the sounds from outside creeped ever closer to the door.
————————————-
“what the fuck is that” sae shouted but John was hardly listening. The older man was pacing the room and staring at the one way glass with clear panic in his eyes. After a moment sae heard the door click and John grabbled his arm to pull him through the sterile halls as the alarm continued to blast and on ominous red light illuminated the now dark halls.
“come on kid this way” sae tugged hard at his arm “what the hell is going on you tell me right now or I don’t take another step” the man shot him an exasperated look and grabbed his shoulders. “That sound means that one of those things you ran into earlier had gotten inside which means we have to get the fuck out of here before it kills us all”
sae felt his heart seize in his chest and he struggled to get a breath in as he was pulled through the corridors which seemed to get longer and longer with each step taken. Eventually they made it to a corner covered in the same deep scratches that sae had seen on the security doors earlier.
when they turned the corner they were met with the sight of dozens of human bodies scattered across he floor all torn apart and completely unrecognisable. As sae walked forwards his foot kicked something soft. He looked down at the floor to make eye contact with an eye that was stuck in a head completely detached from its body.
he saw Adam trip over a pool of blood and collapse into a body with the intestines painting the floor. The older man bent over the floor to spew up his breakfast as sae silently continued forwards. “Is this the right way” he whispered. John needed as he finally stood up “yes this is the only way out” sae nodded mutely as they began to pick their way through the massacre.
the sour scent of death floated through the air and made sae feel vaguely nauseous. He clamped a hand over his nose as blood seeped into the light fabric of his shoes. They were the same ones his brother had bought him last Christmas.
they stayed as quiet as possible as they picked their way through the carnage both of them terrified to alert the attention of the thing that did this. Sae hoped that bunny had managed to hide or make his way out but by the looks of thing he and Adam were the only people left. Aside from the alarm everything was completely silent the scream having died out before the pair had even run into the first body.
their luck eventually ran out when the same dark figure that sae had ran into just hours ago emerged from the dark. John froze in fear and sae backed against the wall letting his shoes slip of the blood to send him down to the floor. He wanted desperately to cover his eyes but something kept his eyes glued to the scene before him.
the creature was tall with an ever changing form like a living shadow with long claws and teeth. A dark appendage emerged from its body wrapping around johns middle as its faces ripped open in the middle in the parody of a smile revealing rows and rows of black razor like teeth.
the dark spikes on its skin dug deep into John making him cry out in fear and pain. His bloodless faces snapped around to face sae as he moved his mouth in a silent beg to save him but sae could only watch as the creature split him open from top to top before dropping him the the floor. Both he and the creature watched in interest as he fruitlessly scrabbled on the floor using the last bits of his energy to pull his spilt organs back towards his organ until a final tear fell from his glassy eyes as he finally succumbed to death.
sae and the creature stared at each other for what felt like hours. Sae’s breathing was shallow as he imagined his own death at the hands of the creature. He imagine his blood and the sound of his screams and the quiet darkness that would follow. He was high on adrenaline as he waited patiently for his death.
he was too tired to run now too tired to scream and cry he would sit and wait for death to come to him. Just as his thoughts began to spiral even deeper a large hand clasped his shoulder. He flinched hard and let out a wet sob before turning to look at bunny’s smug grin.
“Didn’t I tell you I would fix everything” he shouted over the sound of the alarm. Sae didn’t know how long he stared at bunny in disbelief but by the time he came back to the alarm had completely stopped ringing and the red lights had gone back from red to fluorescent white.
“did you do this” bunny laughed “well not technically it was him that did that” he said motioning to the creature which had moved even closer in the last few seconds. “This is why I brought you here, this is what I wanted to show you” “what” he whispered breathlessly, “I mean can’t you see, can’t you see how free we can be here alone together able to do what ever we want, able to make sure that no one can ever bother us”
he continued to rambled on while sae stared on with his jaw on the floor. “We can finally be together don’t you see you do t have to leave any more, here we can be anything we can be together forever and feelings and live won’t get in the way again”
tears poured out of his eyes as he finally understood what the other meant. The creature came up right next to them and began to spread its shadow out around the pair. It wasn’t sharp or cold at all like he was expecting instead it felt warm like human skin. The feeling was warm and calm almost like how he’d always imagined the darkness that came after death to feel.
bunny pulled him close. “Won’t you stay here with me sae we can explore this place together forever wouldn’t you like that” the smile on his face was wide and charming, it was the same smile he’d fallen in love with all those years ago except this time his teeth were a little too sharp and his eyes had a dark glint that sae had never seen before.
“so what do you say”
he sobbed again feeling an emotion he couldn’t name soak into his bones.
“ok”.
