Chapter Text
The front door lets a little creaking sound due to someone opening it from the outside, heavy panting could be heard from the young girl in the doorway. Her raincoat is soaked due to the rainy weather, her name was Chrysalis. Chrysalis takes off her rain boots and places it down on the mat, next to the other shoes.
"Seems like the others are already home.." She mutters out as she unbuttons her raincoat, she lets a little squeak sound due to her socks being all damp.
Her rain boots are really big on her, probably because it was given to her to borrow. Chrysalis opens the garage door and places her wet coat on the rack with all the other sweaters and jackets. There is series of squishy noises coming from her soggy socks. A shallow thumping could be heard in the corner of the garage, a soft squeal follows along with it.
Chrysalis immediately perks up and notices her bunny in the hollow crate, "Ahh, Are you granting me, 'Happy Birthday'?" Chrysalis speaks out as she walks up to his crate and carefully pick him up to nuzzle in his fluffy cheek. She places him back down in the crate, it lets out a gurgling noise to represent its dissatisfaction.Chrysalis calmly laughs at him and goes back inside, she shuts the door gently, she carefully tries not to disturb the others again.
She walks to the stairs and makes her way up to her room, she looks to the side and notice Iapetus's room door is open. Chrysalis quickly rushes to her room on the other side, she doesn't dare to even try to make any contact of his room due to the last time. He got really upset with her and started emotionally mock her for tease. 'Titan just says that he is big senstive baby and that Saturn will figure out either way.' Chrysalis shuts her door and goes straight to her piggybank, she pulls out her small pouch from her pocket and opens it. She dumps the small coins inside. "I don't even want to look inside.." Her voice shivered with mental weakness. Chrysalis doesn't dare to try and check how much money she has for a birthday cake or even a cupcake and candles.
She just sits down on the side of her bed and stares at the floor. There was a bash of thunder that came from outside, nearby too. A small sentence rings in her head, "Happy Birthday, Chrysalis!" Was all the young girl could ever ask for. Chrysalis's eyes gazed over many things in the dark bedroom of hers. "Is anyone going to enter my room?" Her voice was like eerie but, it was only containing a sad tone.
She raises her head up to face the mirror on the vanity desk, she notices her messy hair. The grey and slight dash of pink and purple hair are mixed all over the place. Chrysalis looks at her dirty stripped red and black long-sleeve. Chrysalis reaches from under her bed and pulls out a small crate full of socks, most didn’t even have pairs but she didn’t care. Chrysalis puts on whatever she pulls out first, the first sock she pulls has a smiling sun on it and the other is just plainly gray.
She doesn't pay attention to the soft footsteps approaching her door, a gentle knock presses against the wooden surface. The action surprises her and she flinches. "Chrysalis? Are you in there?" It was soft voice that she could pick up in a heartbeat. It was her older sister, Rhea. The two are very close unlike most in the household. Chrysalis accidentally drops the crate and it scatters, a faint noise comes from her, ‘shoot’. She shoves most into the crate and pushes it back under her bed within a hurry. "Yes-! I am in here, Rhea." Her voice was shaky and unsteady. The doorknob twist and the door opens to reveal a young girl, Chrysalis notices the long light gray down ponytail.
"I'm gald you came home safely. Happy Birthday, Chrysalis." Rhea was holding a small birthday cake with a candle signing the number, '14'. Despite Rhea's voice being a shy and soft tone, it was perfectly steady unlike Chrysalis.
Rhea places the cake on the desk and tries to light the candles up. There was constant sounds of 'clicks' each moment that passes. It takes a bit which causes Rhea to chuckle. "Why is this thing so stubborn? Titan always is breaking stuff, isn't he?" Chrysalis lets a soft pant and giggle, "Did you get it from him or something? I'm pretty sure that he kept trying to lit up small pieces of trash for no reason!" Rhea laughs with pure happiness and finally lights it on fire.
"Titan can always get away, Saturn forgave him either way. Not willingly. Do you think that..Nevermind. Don't have to answer it." Rhea says as she sits back down, her smile purely left a bit but not completely. "Go ahead, make a wish from your heart." Rhea soon follows off her sentence by starting to hum a tune.
Chrysalis takes a deep breath and soon imagines her wish, a soft blow of her breath causes the flames to dissapear. Rhea claps her hands together and hugs her closely. "What did you wish for?" Chrysalis instantly glares at her and was about to speak. "I'm just joking. We want it to come true, right?" Rhea smiles at her and rubs her shoulder. Chrysalis lets a long sigh out and looks back at the cake.
"Titan and Iapetus should've gotten you some stuff, I'm sure." Rhea gently pats her back with her firm palm. Chrysalis scoffs at Rhea's thought and turns her head to the window. Rhea's smile slowly dropped and grabs her hands with care. "Don't spread that attitude..I promise you, they did. Trust me." Chrysalis looks down at her bed, she looks hesitant about it but trust in Rhea's promise. "Why did you get me a cake? You must've spent most of your money on it.." Rhea chuckles in a calm manner, she places her hand on Chrysalis's hand.
"Come on, do you believe you have enough?" Rhea pauses before speaking again, "No offense, of course." Chrysalis mutters quietly to herself in one breath, “Some taken. .”
There was barely tension in the air, only happiness and trust. The two girls make eye contact for a second before, Chrysalis shuffles a bit to rest her head on Rhea's shoulder. Rhea welcomes her for the movement and relaxes her body. Both girls sit there for bit, Chrysalis couldn't care about anything at the moment. She felt safe, there was no thoughts in her mind. No endless horrible words sprouting in her mind.
The comforting atmosphere gets interrupted by a long, "Rhea-!!". The voice was definitely Saturn. Rhea perks up and her eyes gaze at Chrysalis. She smiles and laughs. "It's Saturn again, there's probably another bug in the corner of the room." She speaks casually, she looks at the cake. "If you don't want to eat it now, just put it in the fridge. Unless Titan eats it." Rhea leaves the room and goes to Saturns room.
Chrysalis turns her head to her vanity desk. She smiles to herself in the mirror and looks back at the cake. "I'll just put it in the fridge." Chrysalis's tone has more energy now, her voice was all happy. She carefully picks up the cake and observes the birthday cake, it has those long rainbow sprinkles. Before she starts moving, she remembers Iapetus loves these kind of cakes. "Titan was teasing him about it, the two got into a playful fight. That was years ago, hopefully he still has a thing for it." Chrysalis tells the story to herself in a mumbling manner.
Her voice is much more joyful, she likes to try and make Iapetus fond of her. Chrysalis starts to walk out of her room and her eyes dash straight to the left, Iapetus door is more closed than earlier. Her footsteps become more dull so that she doesn't trigger him to become more grumpy. She visibly swallows and holds her breath as she begins to lifts her knuckle up to the door without shaking too much, she makes an audible knock.
It takes a few moments before heavy steady footsteps go to the door. A gentle creaks in the loft, "Yes, Chrysalia?" Chrysalis doesn't get too bother at him messing up her name, she softly speaks. "May I come inside your room?" Iapetus observes her appearance.
It doesn't take too long before Iapetus sighs. He starts to massage his temples with dissatisfaction. Yet, He doesn't say anything back but gives her a look. He pushes his door more to let her in. Chrysalis hums quietly as she walks into his room and just stands on top of his soft carpet.
Iapetus follows behind her and shuts the door, he notices the cake in her heads."Let me guess, did Rhea buy you that?" Chrysalis lets a puff of air out, she doesn't know how to respond so she just lets a slow nod. Iapetus raises a brow, he already knows most things about her. "-And you are trying to give some to me?" Chrysalis nods at his sentence.
He relaxes the tension and reaches his hand out for it, she tilts her head up a bit and hesitantly places the small cake container on to his hands. Iapetus warmly takes the offer and places it on his desk, he gives her a look before he sits down on the seat. "You know, you can sit on my bed if you like." His tone was much more calmer, she could tell that he is only focused on the dessert infront of his face, Chrysalis silently chuckles as she watches her brother rip off the fork under the container.
Chrysalis’s eyes observes Iapetus's room, it's very plain but it is definitely more decorated than her own room. There was a lot more light in his room than hers, she looks out the window and listens to the rain falling from the outside. "The weather has been more rougher recently." Her words trail off as she looks down at her feet, her tone was a bit sadly rough.
"Tell me about it. Is it treating you alright whenever you go out?" Iapetus's voice was a little rough but there was no hurtful tone in it. Since, his mouth is a bit stuffed with cake as he chews. Therefore she didn't really hear him since she starts getting lost in thought.
Chrysalis's mind ends up trailing off to her...classmates. A heavy male voice starts to talk, 'Don't let them get to you Chrysalis.' Her eyes start to shake a bit. 'Don't let them see you when you are weak and pathetic again.'
Chrysalis starts breathing heavily once again until she hears fingers snap that causes her to snap her back to Reality. Her head perks up instantly, Iapetus body is slightly turned towards her now. His face clearly showed concern but also deep confusion. He clears his throat to make sure that she with him. "HUh-?! Oh! Sorry about that." Chrysalis mumbles, she starts to feel embarrass under his gaze. "Uhm, anyways. You are quite absent-minded. ." Iapetus's words are left hanging in the air, there was a slight pause as he turns back around.
He sighs and tries his best to get rid of the awkward tension that is filling the room. "You should go peek under my bed." He mutters, his voice was barely vast. He was trying to sound excited and happy but all he sounded like was sarcasm which makes Chrysalis frown. Her eyes begin to droop down more, "That's not funny, Iapetus!" She tries to yell at him but has a voice crack mid-way. "You aren't making anything better!" Iapetus's eyes narrow down at cake as he inhales and exhales, trying to keep a cool. "I'm not-" He momentary pauses to think of what to say. "-Trying to scare you. Just look underneath my bed."
Chrysalis stares at his back for moment, analyzing of what to think. She thinks back to Rhea's promise. "Fine." Her voice was shivery with zero confidence. Her leans her body foward and lifts up the blanket, her touch was shaking. There was nothing under besides a few pairs of socks and a bo-. "It should be the purple box." Iapetus directly speaks to her only. She turns her eyes to the purple box and reaches for it, she lifts her body back up as she holds the gift tightly. Chrysalis observes the gift, the only thing that stood out was the color of the box. "Purple?" She questions as she checks other details of it, "Yeah, is something wrong with it? Its supposed to match your eye color." Iapetus mutters the last part quietly. Chrysalis didn't quite catch him but just scoffs it off. She grabs the ribbon and pulls it, the ribbons fall down in a slow-pace manner. She lifts up the purple top off.
Inside there was moon shaped nightlight? But also a . . Scarf! Chyrsalis eyes light up in a instant, she gasp loudly and, quickly places the night light on her side of the bed. She picks up the scarf and admires the scarf, the scarf is like a dirty gray with a pattern of light gray polka dots. Her smile was insanely wide and filled with pure happiness. "Happy Birthday, Chrysalia." Iapetus is now fully turned towards her, he lets his smile beam a bit as he watches her.
Iapetus gets up and closes the cake container. He goes up to her, she instantly drops the scarf on the bed and pulls him into a tight hug. "Woah-!" He takes the action of being surprise and almost tumbles back but latches onto the side of his desk. "Thank you so much, Iapetus!!" Her voice was just filled with pure joy as she tightens the hug. He can barely huff at her, he tries to speak to her but he just relaxes his body. He weakly wraps his arms around her too. The two sit in a comfortable silence before Chrysalis notices him trying to catch his breath, she instantly pulls away from him. "Oh, sorry about that. ." Chrysalis steps back as she scratches her arm with shame.
Iapetus finally lets huge exhale out, he begins to pant a bit. "Its. . .Fine." He catches his breath and places his hand on her shoulder.
"I'm just gald that you like it that much." Iapetus finally looks at the moon nightlight. "You didn't look at that one though." He tries to hold his laugh in, he covers his mouth. Chrysalis raises a eyebrow and turns to get the nightlight, she observes it. "It's really awesome, why are you laughing at it?" She gets suspicious of him and tries to get the joke that he is trying to make. "Nothing much, you should just get going now." He manages to pull off the laugh and clears his throat. Iapetus helps her by putting the scarf and nightlight in the box again, he also hands her the cake.
Chrysalis yelps as she tries to carry all of the stuff, Iapetus gently pushes her out of his room. "Goodnight." His voice was rough but his face didn't show any harsh intentions towards her. It was obvious that he didn't really want to interact as much at the moment. Iapetus slams his door behind her which makes her flinch and squeak. Chrysalis sighs, she looks around and notices no one elses doors are open expect for hers. Chrysalis's footsteps are still dull as ever, she walks to her room and places the purple box on the vanity desk.
There was a loud vast sound of thunder from outside, she jumps slightly and huffs. Chrysalis steps out of her bedroom, she is now only holding the small birthday cake. As soon as she reached the down stairs, she could only smell the fresh air of rain from the window. She walks to the fridge and opens the door to place the cake inside. She didn't notice but there was soft footsteps approaching her from behind. Chrysalis shuts the fridge the door, she was about to turn around until a hand presses against her back. She releases a loud scream which threw the person behind her off. Chrysalis turns around. "Wh-. . .Titan!" Titan's body stumbles backwards but manages to catch his balance.
Titan starts to giggles a bit as he puts his hand on her shoulder, "Sorry, I thought you heard my footsteps!" His tone was barely unstable despite what just happened. "Don't ever do that again!!" Chrysalis yells at him and jabs her finger against his chest.
"Ouch!" Titan yelps in pain and huffs at her. "I just wanted to say happy birthday, Chrysalis." He still smiles at her as he gently pushes her hand away. Chrysalis instantly regretted it, "I'm sorry, I wasn't thinki-" Titan slightly hovers his hand over her mouth. "Don't. It's fine, I'm fine." He softly smiles at her as his tone was now cooled and calm.
"I got a surprise for you, its in the garage." Titan walks over towards the garage door. Chrysalis just follows his steps behind him, the two go inside of the garage but as soon as they walked in, there's a puddle of water in the front of the door. Titan moves his arms infront of her, "Careful." Titan goes ahead and walks over it. Chrysalis's eyes dazes down at the puddle and she soon follows the droplets with her eyes, her raincoat was dripping due to it being drenched from the outside rain.
Titan looks at her with reassurance, he shakes his head. "It's all fine, plus Saturn doesn't really mind whenever stuff happens in the garage." Chrysalis looks up at him, she listens and looks at him shuffling around under the 'workbench'. There was a limited pause between the two, only sounds of him grunting and shuffling for something underneath. A faint, 'There it is' comes from him. He tilts his head towards her and smiles. "Close your eyes."
Chrysalis nods and shuts her eyes, nothing but pitch black. She can hear him walking up to her, there was slight stop. She can now feel his presence infront of her. "You can open your eyes now."
Chrysalis raises her eyelids up and looks down. Right in his hands, was sitting a brand new pair of boots. She gasp slightly and covers her mouth both hands. "Do you like it?" Titan asks as he softly chuckles at her reaction.
"Do I. . .'love it'?" Chyrsalis's voice sounds out of breath despite her barely doing anything. Titan hums and nods, he is genuinely smiling really huge. She screams, Titan gets caught off and flinches. "Of course I do!!" She yells with pure joy, she pulls him into a warm hug. She was squeezing him at that point, Titan grins and chuckles as he pulls her closer. He rests his palm on her head and pulled her closer. "I'll wear it everyday. .! I promise you!" Chrysalis gazes up at him, she looks purely delighted with imaginable happiness.
"You don't have to wear my rainboots. You can just wear these when it's cold or rainy. You don't have to worry anymore about getting your boots stuck in the pedal of your bike." Titan recommends her some idea so she doesn't suffer with the old ones.
The two sit in a comfortable hug as the atmosphere gets rid of every negative tension.
