Work Text:
Dear loser,
I know it's been weeks since the last time we talked, but I know you couldn't have possibly forgotten about me.
How's everything been going there? I've been off the map for so long that news doesn't even come through from where I'm at right now.
Last time I heard, the anomaly attacks there have been hitting hard. They've been talking about closing up borders to prevent the spread, but the attacks here have been just as bad.
I almost got myself killed yesterday, being stupid as I usually am. I was cornered by a bunch of them before I managed to find a tiny crawlspace. Being small has its advantages at times, y'know?
Or maybe not, considering you're taller than me.
Seeing them so up-close like that was terrifying. Whatever the corporation is doing to " contain the spread " isn't working clearly. It's horrible.
But other than that, I've been more than fine. Strangers here are way nicer, so I've camped out in many living rooms or got a hotel for free. Maybe after this entire thing is over if it ever ends, I'll stay up here. It's nice.
Hope things have been good there for you too, despite the attacks.
Love, your situationship.
( P.S. I just found out what situationship is. I think that's what we are? ) :)
( P.P.S don't send a letter back to this address, I'll be long gone by the time your letter back even gets here. )
Dear Idiot,
Hey, it's me again. Hope you got my last letter. If not, I look pretty fucking stupid.
As I said, I've still been on the move. I had to leave the last spot after just spotting those vans the corporation uses to drive around. I can tell they're on to me, so i've been staying in places for shorter times.
I already miss the other place and the kindness of the others there. I'm being humbled again apparently as most of my rest spots have been in cheaper spots or outside, I'll be honest.
However, thankfully there are little to no anomalies here. Its not saying much as they shouldn't exist to begin with, but I haven't been cornered let alone spotted one yet.
Turns out the Animal Corporation has tons more locations, hospitals, and things alike. Maybe you knew that, considering you work for them, but given I didn't and you haven't told me anything ( which if you DID know and just didn't tell me you look like a major douchebag ).
But either way, they slack more here. They make it easier to get into their buildings and find out more.
For them to say they've been working on containing the issue, I sure have yet to see anything regarding that.
Whatever they're doing isn't for the benefit of us. They're making something. I probably sound paranoid or crazy, but I'd rather look dumb for being wrong than helpless for being right.
I miss you. Your dumb hair, dumb glasses, and dumb tired face.
Hope things have been good for you.
Not like I'd know. I'd be gone again before you could send anything, and I don't have anywhere you could right now. Trust I'll work on it when I get to my next spot.
Love, That Rat.
;)
Dear Ron,
I've decided to sit back for a bit. Just to hear from you again.
Whoever I'm staying with right now was nice enough to let me stay and receive mail. I'll leave the address for you on the back.
Not much has happened, I'll be honest.
I'm scared.
And I'm almost never scared, so maybe that scares you!
We can be scared together.
The attacks have been getting so much worse, and I don't think it'll be easy to stop. It was a total apocalypse yesterday, so many people either became infected or died. It was horrible.
It's quiet outside. Not quiet like how it was there, but quiet in a sense where nobody even knows what to say anymore. People have completely given up.
I won't.
I really do want to find her, to see my sister alive and well and to know that I can get her back.
That's why I wont give up. And I hope you don't either.
Again, I miss you. I miss there. I miss the wacky characters over there. I miss how things used to be.
Love, Ratthew. ❤︎
Dear Rat,
I don't think that words can even describe how relieved I am to hear you're okay, and that I can finally send you something back.
It's still annoying to think about, but life was better when you used to lure around the place and get on my ass for not finishing paperwork. I should've appreciated times like that.
I've been to the hospital more lately. Not for headaches anymore, but to investigate.
I know, it sounds unlike me, but trust me when I say I've been up to something.
I've noticed a pattern, how often people who work there get quietly dismissed before being replaced. It's too easy to realize, honestly. Everyone is so different, that when they disappear it's clear.
I hate how I can't stop it.
That intern has been there the longest so far. I've tried to look back at old files to see if there's any record on them or how they've gotten hired, but it seems as if everything was wiped clean on them before I could even look. No connection to anything here unlike everyone else.
The only thing I could find that was interesting enough to put here was that Dr. Harlow personally took them on instead of the corporation picking and choosing like usual. Just like how Rattina was personally chosen.
I'm scared too.
Everything is tying together but the seems are loosening at the same time. When I find something new, it manages to invalidate something else. This is the closest i've ever been to making a conclusion.
They're gathering animals, ones that stick out from society. Ones easily enough to take advantage of to partake in these experiments. From there, I have no clue what the plan is, but I know it's not good.
I hate having to end a letter like this, but its the truth. And I can't change it.
I miss you too. The bickering and just your tiny presence to begin with. I hope you're really safe. I worry for you every day, risk-taker.
Perhaps one day, we'll actually see eachother again.
Love, Ron from Accounting.
( P.S. never call me your " situationship " again. )
