7 Minutes in (a Dream) Heaven

Summary:

"If they need something so bad, then just.. kiss me." Victor said, like he was asking a favor of him.

He could see Dev's eyes widen. "What? But-- you.."

"I.." He felt anxiety rise in his chest. There was some feelings for him way back when, but this was really testing his heart now. He could still be that same guy he'd fallen in love with as a kid, and he was never good at growing out of childish habits. "I'm fine with it. It should probably just be enough to cause a sound or a movement or something."

A fic written of my two OCs, Dev & Victor. Originally written on Tumblr, but it would be fun if it was over here too, so here we are.

Notes:

Description explains itself. Originally written on Tumblr.com (@missm1ntyfresh over there), but I thought it would be nice to send this story out to sea by boat by posting it over here too, like a sacrifice for no reason. i guess the reasoning is.. for the hell of it? okay forget the metaphor its not working.

If you're wondering who Dev & Victor are, go check out my instagram, @m1ntyyydraws, to go find artwork of them.

For now, I'll give you quick context about their storyline: Victor and Dev were childhood friends, and Victor had a crush on him at the time. Victor eventually moves away, and they don't see each other for 7 years, Dev and Victor reacting to this with resentment and sadness respectively. By luck or fate, they end up going to the same college together, eventually facing each other again and becoming friends again, and something more.

This fic is set in their post-7-years phase, where they've seen each other after seven years, and tension is.. strange between them.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Victor didn't think he'd see Dev again so soon.

Finding out you both go to the same college by chance after so many years is shocking, yes, but later on showing up at a party, both of you getting picked out of spin the bottle by some people's he's.. honestly, never really known? Not ideal.

So.. here they were. Dev had his legs pressed against his chest, chin sitting on his knees. Victor had opted to criss-cross instead.

To make matters worse, the lighting in this closet was at best dramatic and at worse, unflattering. Not on himself, but on Dev. He couldn't perfectly make out his face.

A long and awkward silence sat on their throats, making it difficult to say anything.

"Hey--"

"So--"

They both talked over each other. Victor heard a wince from the darkened end where Dev was.

Okay. Clear your throat, and try again.

"So... why did you come to this party?" Victor tentatively asked.

"My bandmates were going." Dev responded, but his words were tight and quick.

"Oh." Victor glanced at the closed doors from his position. "Do you think they're having a good time?"

More silence. And then,

"Probably. They're fans of alcohol, so they've gotta be blacked out by now."

Victor heard a breathy chuckle escape his mouth. It was so brief, but.. he hadn't heard him laugh in so long.

He hoped Dev didn't see his expression; a little too happy to hear a tease of a laugh.

They sat in silence again for a longer while. So much so that Victor was thinking the people that put them up to this forgot about them completely. He knows they were drunk, but it still frustrated him. This whole thing was stupid.

. . .

"Do you think we actually have to, y'know.." Victor heard Dev's voice getting caught on the words he was supposed to be saying: kissing, making out.. getting busy, "..To get out?"

"At this point, I'd be more surprised if they remembered we were in here. I bet we could just leave if we wanted to." It came out more in a blurt than Victor had hoped, but the muffled music was getting to him and he really wanted to leave.

Silence returned, but it felt more like space to think rather than the end of a conversation.

"Do you want to leave?" Dev asked.

No.

He didn't.

"Yes. It would be nice to stand, honestly."

He wanted to stay and.. talk to him. Catch up with his old friend. Apologize to him. Whatever he wanted.

This situation could have been used.. but it was an awful setup. He wanted a place where they were both comfortable, and it's certainly not in some random closet.

Dev moved out from his dark corner and creaked his side's door open. But it was quickly pushed shut.

"Dude, what the hell!" He yelled.

Victor could see his face better, now that he was closer. He was surprised and frustrated.

A voice spoke through the doors. "You gotta do something to get out! I haven't heard anything go down in there!"

"Well then you're fucking deaf or something! God!" Victor watched him shout that back before slumping back a little in defeat.

He looked sad.

"Are you okay, you--"

"I'm just tired today, and this isn't helping," Dev interrupted him, " I don't know why I came to this party anyways." He paused and gave Victor a smile, but it was one of sadness, or maybe regret. Just.. something he didn't want to see on Dev's face. "You didn't do anything wrong."

...

"Kissing is a two-person job, so," Victor continued, "If you're comfortable with this, then we can.. do it." The words were getting harder to say, "If you're not, then.. we can think of something else."

There's lots of silence going on in this closet today, huh?

"If it'll get me-- us out of here, then.. I'll do it." Dev said.. before getting closer. Huh? Wait, what did he say?

Victor's body was moving faster than his head, getting his legs to move out the way so Dev could get even closer to his face.

Wow, Devon grew up into a handsome guy.. huh.

He was definitely pressed up against the wall. There's no doubt of that. With this positioning, Dev is looking down at Victor, slumped and caught off guard.

Is he breathing a little loud? Dev didn't react to it though, his eyes closed off, like he's trying to do this without thinking.

He feels his chin being tilted up and.. oh god, his eyes. They were always this dark shade of green he liked. They could be soft like moss, or vibrant like emeralds. They could be anything, really, and he'd love them all the same.

"Sorry." Victor says between breaths.

Dev's expression softened. "It's alright," his voice just far enough from a whisper, "Just.. picture someone you like."

He doesn't have to picture anything.

"I don't want to picture anybody else. I don't mind it being you." He should've muttered that, idiot.

Dev reacted to that alright; His cheeks flushed, looking down at Victor's mouth.

Victor felt the distance between them close, closing his eyes in return. It was like his words gave him some courage.

His shoulders slumped, surrendering as Dev adjusted his hand to better hold his face.

Before Victor could start feeling more of this, the distance grew between them again.

He opened his eyes to see Dev again, face a bit more flushed and an expression on his face that looked a lot like longing for more.

"...You're a good kisser." What? Victor, why would you say that??

Dev broke out into a laugh, twisting his head away. When he turned back, his voice was lightly shaking through his laughter.

"I don't think I'm that good, Victor." He said, but the grin stuck on his face told Victor otherwise. That stupid line was worth it. Just to hear him laugh.

"Also," Dev continued, brushing back a bit of hair behind his ear, "I don't get how you'd say that after one kiss."

... This feels like a dream. There's no way this would be real, right?

Well, if this is a dream, then he doesn't want to wake up just yet.

Victor takes his hands and cups Dev's chin in them.

"Then we could keep going. We'll find out for sure then, right?"

Victor would be lying if he said that Dev's stunned face wasn't something he wanted to see.

Without meeting Victor's eyes and a sheepish grin growing on his face, Dev simply said:

"I'd like that."

Victor couldn't help but smile. He repositioned himself first, and by the time he was in a better spot, he looked up to see Dev looking at him in anticipation.

What do people say? No time to lose? Victor went in for the kiss, picking up right back where Dev left off. And he..

..Woke up. Victor woke up.

Oh.. huh.

He sits up in his bed and looks out the window, too dark both in the room and outside to see much. A feeling of shame grows quickly in his chest.

That's a terrible thing to do with a guy you're not even sure to be on good terms with. He's terrible. If he could reach into his brain, he'd scold it for giving him such a self-indulgent dream.

What time is it anyways? ...3:00 AM? That explains the darkness.

He huffs to himself, the dream becoming soured in his memory. He'd probably never get to do that with him anyways. Just forget about it, Victor.

Sigh. Nothing better to do than go back to bed.

Notes:

Thank you so much for reading! Especially for reading an original work, which I don't think many people come on here for (which I totally get).
The level of fixation I have on Dev and Victor is criminal, it's crazy how I haven't posted anything about them in a writing sense. Posting niche things on here means I don't have anything to lose, but it feels more personal when it's my ocs, lol. Forgive me for rambling.

my tumblr is linked over here and the link to the original tumblr post is right here.
Thanks so much, again :)
