“I’m sorry Zia, I’m trying, but I just can’t do it, I just can’t!” Harvey clung to her waist like a leech, clenching his eyes shut, refusing to let go.
“I promise you my love, you’re ok”, Zia assured with a warm chuckle. “Just open your eyes”.
Hearing the familiarity and warmth of his wife’s voice, Harvey relaxed his eyelids….before clenching them tightly yet again.
”Nope, I can’t, I just can’t”, he rambled on uneasily.
Normally, this would put Zia off, considering this was his idea, however now she felt nothing but empathy as she caressed his trembling back.
”It’s ok to be scared, but I promise you’ll feel a lot safer once you open your eyes”.
”You don’t know that Zia! Just think of all of the dangers in here”, he started.
”ghosts, bats, slimes……”
”Harvey…”, Zia called out concerningly.
“Skeletons, rock crabs, bugs….”
”Harvey..”
”Dust sprites, cave flies…”
”Harvey!” Zia cried, loud enough to pierce through his external monologue.
”We’re still at the entrance…”
Harvey quickly shot open his eyes and looked around him, revealing the cave entrance and the dwarf, who stared back at him in pure confusion.
”Oh, hello”, he awkwardly waved with a chuckle.
