“I love you, Fushiguro, I don’t care”

Summary:

It’s been 6 months since Shinjuku, and everything seems to have returned to as normal as they can be. But Megumi can’t truly get over what Sukuna did in his body.

Notes:

This is my first fanfiction, so it’s problem not the best! There is an SH warning in the text, it’s not graphic at all however.

Work Text:

“Hey, Fushiguro!”

Megumi looked up from his phone as he saw Itadori come into his room with a bright beaming smile on his face, contagious enough to bring a small one to the black haired boy’s face. “Itadori. What’s up?”

His boyfriend jerked his thumb towards the exit. “Kugisaki said there’s a new cafe in town and they’re having a huge grand opening sale. Wanna come with us?”

Megumi pushed himself up off his bed, giving Itadori a quick kiss on his pink fluffy head, which promptly led to his face turning the same color. “Sure. Let me get dressed first, though. Can’t go out looking like this, can I?” he said, gesturing to his hoodie and pajama pants.

Itadori laughed, turning towards the door with an enthusiastic grin. “Meet me and Kugisaki outside in 5, k?” Megumi nodded as he closed the door.

It’d been 6 months since Shinjuku, and Megumi still hadn’t fully recovered from what Sukana had done in his body. The destruction and deaths he’d caused. Choso. Tsumiki. Kashimo. Ryu. And…

He slapped himself, trying to forget. But he couldn’t shake seeing Gojo’s body, torso severed from his legs. The rolling wave of nausea that overcame him as he spilled the contents of his stomach onto the ground. Itadori had tried telling him it wasn’t his fault in the daze after realizing he’d killed his own father. But he knew he was lying. After all, he’d seen him after Shibuya.

Megumi pulled his hoodie off, grabbing his wrist in case Itadori came in to check on him. He couldn’t see them, couldn’t cause him any more pain than necessary. He changed quickly, pulling on jeans and a long sleeve shirt despite it being nearly 32 Celsius out.

Itadori was waiting with Kugisaki outside Jujutsu High’s gates, both on their bikes. “We’re taking bikes? I’ll grab mi-“ He was cut off by his boyfriend grabbing his arm and dragging him over to his own bike. “Come on Fushiguro, we can share!”

Megumi turned a bright shade of red as he stammered out “I-Isn’t that illegal?” Kugisaki sent a smirk his way as she told him what he already knew. “There’s an except for teenagers in love..~” He tried to protest, but there really wasn’t any point.

Their relationship was the furthest thing from a secret. Pretty much all of their school knew him and Itadori were dating. When he’d told the second years- well, third years now- Panda had replied with, “You weren’t already?” Okkotsu and Inumaki had unsurprisingly been very accepting, considering they’d also been together for about a year. Maki had made a joke that Naoya would’ve flipped his lid if he found out the head of the Zen’in clan was dating a guy.

Face still red from Itadori’s invitation, he climbed on the bike to Kugisaki’s laughter, and once again, he couldn’t help but crack a smile at his friends happiness as they rode into town.

Arriving at the cafe, Megumi was greeted by a crowded space and a long line. As they waited in the line, Itadori, knowing his discomfort with large amounts of people, whispered in his ear. “Let’s order and then get a table outside, k?” Megumi nodded, at ease with how well his boyfriend knew him and how he was quick to change plans to comfort him.

As they stepped up to the counter, Megumi was the first to speak. “I’ll take a black coffee.” The waiter lingered a second before calling Itadori to the counter, who ordered a rice bowl, and Kugisaki who ordered French toast.

As they walked outside to escape the crowd of people clamoring for the sale, Itadori asked Megumi a question he didn’t want to answer. “Why’d you only get coffee? You haven’t eaten since breakfast, and even that wasn’t much plus a few hours ago.”

Megumi stuttered, managing to get out a response that was something along the lines of “I’ll get something when we go back to the school.” His boyfriend gave him a quizzical look, but decided to drop the topic since they were in public.

Their conversation was light hearted and fun, nothing like what you’d expect teenagers that had gone through what they did to be discussing. Itadori was showing them all dozens of cat pictures and stupid memes that were so idiotic he just sighed lovingly.

Their waiter interrupted Itadori mid sentence as he was going on about something he’d seen in the news. “Anything you need?” she said politely, and his boyfriend looked expectantly at Megumi, likely trying to convince him to get something else to eat before they left, but he just smiled politely and declined.

“Okay! That’ll be 1150¥.” Kugisaki nearly choked on her water hearing that price. “Damn, I knew it was 50% off but that’s cheap!” The waiter simply chuckled, replying “We’ve been getting that a lot.” The three of them split their bill and bowed to the waiter in gratitude before getting on their bikes and riding back to Jujutsu High.

Yuji was worried. His boyfriend had declined eating any healthy amount of food, and was wearing long sleeves in the summer. Something had to be going on, and he had a sneaking suspicion of what it was.

Those fears were confirmed when he woke up in the night to go to the bathroom and found droplets of blood on the sink.

Without knocking, he burst into Fushiguro’s room and saw him curled on the floor in a ball next to a picture of a younger him and Gojo Sensei, shoulders shaking with sobs.

“Fushiguro.”

His boyfriend looked up, eyes puffy and red from crying. He tried to scramble up and explain everything was fine, but Yuji didn’t let him finish before pulling him close to his chest. The black haired boy tried to protest, but gave in to sobs within seconds, wrapping his arms around Yuji’s waist, which began to feel wet as blood from his wrists dampened his shirt.

“I.. I killed him!” sobbed Fushiguro, muffled cries escaping his mouth. “And all the others. All of them. They’re dead because of me. And I just can’t get over it. Whenever I try to sleep, I see it all. All the destruction and deaths he caused in my body. And it’s all my fault!”

Yuji just quietly let his boyfriend cry into his shirt, running his hands through his spiky black hair.

After a few minutes, when the sobs turned into small sniffles, he loosened his grip on Fushiguro and pulled away, gazing into his dark eyes that were now framed by puffy red cheeks and tear tracks on his face.

“Fushiguro, you know I’d never blame you for what he did. Just like you never blamed me for Shibuya, despite me trying to convince you. I still love you, and I always will. Promise.”

His boyfriend wiped his nose with his sleeve and managed a shaky grin. “You were… so dead set on taking the blame, weren’t you?”

Yuji chuckled quietly. “Yeah, I really was. C’mon now, let’s get you fixed up.”
