Work Text:
You've been different since you lost one of your wings.
Your husband tries to make you feel better; running his clawed hands through your hair while you cry. Decorating your one remaining wing with flowers and jewels to make you forget the pain.
But it isn’t enough.
One wing isn’t enough to lift you off the ground let alone soar through the skies feeling the of air brush through your feathers like you used to.
And your husband flying you into the sky isn’t enough to quell the pain of having your wing hacked off of your back just for loving a demon.
In some ways you resent him for that, your husband; the man you chose over heaven. The demon who worships the very ground you walk on and gives you your every wish just to see you smile. Those days are the worst, when he tries to make you smile again and all you can see is the reason you can’t fly on your own anymore. It isn’t his fault, you know it’s not, but some angry part of you can’t help but turn towards him.
“You’re beautiful no matter how many wings you have. I love you Angel", He hummed into the top of your head as his rough clawed hands gently rubbed the scar where your wing used to be.
You couldn’t respond, you never could, not anymore at least. Your husband knew that, he knew why you hadn’t said you loved him since that day, he didn’t blame you, only held you tighter to let you know he’d never leave you; and even if you never said it out loud you loved him for it.
For the silent resolve to love you till the end of time, two wings, one, or none at all.
