Chapter Text

Zam subtly glared at Wemmbu's back.

The ruler was really trying to hold herself back. She already knew that Wemmbu was planning to betray her, that's the whole reason she sent Flame after him in the first place! But - even if she really wanted to stab the man in th back - she'd have to hold herself back.

It would be no fun to end things now.

No.

She'd crush this purple menace.

Zam focused back into the conversation Wemmbu and Egg were having. The three - along with Manepear - were out on some mission, Zam wasn't too sure what. She was the one that wanted to do this but she didn't really care about the details.

Just as she was huffing in her mind, Zam's attention was drawn by the shouts of her guard.

"AMBUSH!" Mane roared, pulling out his spear.

Wemmbu followed behind with his sword, the duo taking down thug after thug as Egg took to the skies to shoot arrows. Zam kept herself away from the chaos, swinging her own sword at any stray player and dodging the gross splatters of blood.

She was so so bored when Mane's shout caught her attention, "ZAM! BEHIND YOU!"

Zam swung her head around, wide eyes locking onto a thug swinging a sharp sword right towards her head. Her long, golden ringlets of hair flowed in the air as she tried to dodge the hit, but she knew she'd be too slow to get away. She be lucky if she got away from this with just an injury.

She could die!

Purple overtook her vision when she expected red.

"WEMMBU!"

Was that Eggchan? Zam had never heard the angel scream so loud.

Oh.

Wemmbu's limp body hit the ground in front of Zam, his void colored blood covering Zam's royal attire. The offending sword stuck itself inside the dragons chest as he struggled to breathe around it.

The attacker - stunned at the change in target - was no match against an angel scorned. Egg fired an arrow straight into their head, the object glowing with ethereal power. It stunned Zam a little, but Egg and Wemmbu had always been weirdly possessive of each other.

Suddenly, the only thing she could think of was Wemmbu. Wemmbu, who was going to betray her. Wemmbu, who would stab her in the back the first chance he got. Wemmbu, who didn't ask questions and just jumped in to help her when she asked.

Wemmbu, who just risked his life for her, unprompted.

She didn't understand, if Wemmbu was going to betray her, why would he take a blow like this for her? Even if it didn't kill him, Wemmbu would be out of commission for a while. Logically, he should have just let Zam take the blow.

So, why didn't he?

Zam knew the purple dragon was slightly stupid, but even he should have caught on to Zam's manipulation at this point, so why was he still pretending to be kind?

Zam felt… bad.

She wanted Wemmbu to wake up now, but with such a large injury in such a vulnerable place, Wemmbu would be lucky to survive.

Is this her fault? Was she wrong about Wemmbu? Was he genuinely her friend, no ulterior motive at all?!

Egg shoved Zam out of the way, crouching down beside his friend and letting his angelic powers begin to heal the wound. The sword had been pulled out while Zam was still in her own head and Flame had appeared sometime between everything, helping to keep pressure on the wound.

Eventually, Egg's powers ran out and the angel wiped sweat from his forehead. The wound was gone, but Wemmbu himself didn't look any better. His skin was a pale lavender color, taking on a slight green tinge. He was sweating but also shivering, a contrast that sat heavily in Zam's heart.

Zam - finally finding herself back in control of her own body - knelt down in the muddy dirt beside her friend(?), being careful of the delicate wings and looked to Egg, "Will he be okay?"

Egg sighed in frustration, "At the rate he's currently going? Not really. But there is something I can do."

"So why aren't you doing it?" Flame hissed, his arms crossed.

Egg sighed in frustration, his white wings fluttering around him, "It puts Wemmbu in a vulnerable state and me out of commission. It's too dangerous. Any old player would be happy to capture an ender dragon."

Zam frowned, "We can take care of him at the castle."

"You think I'd trust you with that?" Egg scoffed, "Wemmbu may trust you - and I cannot imagine why - but I don't. You and your empire are shady people and I can feel your bad intentions with Wemmbu. Why would I let you just take him?!"

Zam sighed in frustration, "I know- I know, okay?! I know I've been… paranoid, but I want to help Wemmbu."

Egg stared at him for a long while before sighing, "Okay. What I'm going to do is put Wemmbu in a smaller state. He'll be more vulnerable, but it'll let his normal form heal. I'll be gone for a while, the transformation takes a lot of my energy. So take care of him."

Zam nodded, "We will."

Egg sighed in frustration and turned his face to look at his dear friend. He placed a gentle hand on Wemmbu's burning forehead and let the both of them be entangle by light.

Mane, Flame and Zam all covered their eyes, blinking the bright lights out of their vision. When they could see again, Egg and Wemmbu were gone, leaving behind a pile of clothes and armor.

A pile that began to wail.

Zam hesitantly approached the pile and peered into the clothing, locking eyes with a teary, purple baby. It had tiny leathery wings, small horns and a swinging tail. A baby dragon.

Wemmbu.

Flame and Mane gasped as Zam picked up the baby Wemmbu, calming the child down instantly. He frowned up at the siren hybrid, reaching his tiny hands out to Zam. Wemmbu babbled until he was held gently against the rulers chest, giggling softly before quickly falling asleep in her warm embrace.

(In the background, Mane's pupils were wide and his tail swung gently. Flame held his older brother back, the lion whin ing about wanting the cub. Flame tried to remind Mane that Wemmbu - although now a baby - was not the mans cub. But Mane wasn't listening, he saw a cub and thought himself the best caretaker for it. Therefore he should have it.

GIVE. HIM. THE. CUB!)

Zam ignored the scuffle behind her and smiled gently as she poke the mini dragons cheek. Wemmbu whined and nuzzled into the hand, causing the siren to feel an ache in her chest.

It wasn't safe out in the wild, especially for such a young baby. She turned to her guards - who froze in place, fist raised to hit each other - and waved a hand. They rushed to stand to attention awaiting their next orders.

"Let's go home." she ordered.

"Yes, ma'am!" they turned to lead her and the baby home.

This was going to be interesting.
