Chapter 1 – A New Semester
Peter Parker had survived alien invasions, final exams, and living with Tony Stark.
He wasn't entirely sure which had been the most stressful.
MIT's campus buzzed with excitement as students hurried from one building to another, maps folded under their arms and coffee cups clutched like lifelines. It was the first Monday of the semester, and everyone looked equally nervous.
Peter adjusted the strap of his backpack and took a deep breath.
New city. New university. New start.
Exactly what he had wanted.
No one here knew that he was the son of Tony Stark.
No one expected him to be anything more than another freshman studying engineering.
Perfect.
───
The lecture hall was already filling when Peter slipped inside. He chose a seat in the third row—not too close to the front, not far enough away to attract attention—and placed his notebook on the desk.
Conversations echoed through the room.
"Do you think it's true?"
"I heard they actually convinced him."
"No way."
"My roommate says he already saw security outside."
Peter frowned. Convinced who?
Before he could ask, the lights dimmed slightly.
The door opened.
Every conversation stopped.
A man walked into the room carrying a travel mug and a tablet. Expensive suit. Designer sunglasses. Perfectly styled hair.
Tony Stark.
The room exploded.
"No way!"
"That's Tony Stark!"
"Is this real?"
Peter slowly closed his eyes. "...You've got to be kidding me."
Tony looked over the lecture hall. His eyes landed on Peter for the briefest moment.
Peter gave him exactly one Look. Don't.
Tony's mouth twitched.
Then he looked away as though Peter were just another student.
"Good morning," Tony said casually. "I'm Professor Stark for this semester."
More excited whispering.
Someone behind Peter whispered, "I can't believe Tony Stark is teaching us."
Peter wanted to disappear into his chair.
───
Tony set his coffee on the desk. "I know what you're thinking." He looked around the room. "No, I didn't lose a bet."
A wave of laughter spread through the lecture hall.
"I accepted this position because brilliant engineers don't magically appear. Someone has to teach them."
Another laugh.
Peter smiled despite himself.
That sounded exactly like Dad.
Tony began writing on the Board. Within minutes, the room became quiet. Peter almost forgot who was standing at the front.
Almost.
───
Forty minutes later, Tony drew a complicated circuit across the Board. "So..." He turned around. "Who wants to explain why this design fails under increased thermal load?"
Silence.
Students avoided eye contact.
Tony waited.
Five seconds.
Ten.
Then his gaze settled on one Person. "Mr. Parker?"
Peter resisted the urge to bang his forehead against the desk. Slowly, he stood.
He walked to the whiteboard, accepted the marker Tony silently handed him, and immediately crossed out half the diagram.
"The feedback loop creates an unstable resonance here," Peter explained. "And because this material expands faster than the outer housing, the whole thing overheats before reaching maximum efficiency."
He redrew two sections. "If you move the regulator here instead..." He finished the equation. "...the system becomes stable."
Silence.
One student quietly muttered, "How did he even see that?"
Tony studied the board for a second. Then he nodded once. "Excellent analysis, Mr. Parker."
No smile.
No pride in his voice.
Just the calm approval of a professor.
Peter nodded politely. "Thank you, Professor Stark." He returned to his seat.
The whispers started immediately.
───
When the lecture ended, students crowded around Tony, asking for photos, signatures, and questions about Stark Industries.
Peter quietly packed his bag. He was halfway to the exit when he heard it.
"Mr. Parker."
Peter stopped. Of course. He turned around.
"Yes, Professor?"
Tony waited until the last curious student had finally left the room.
The door clicked shut.
Silence.
Tony looked at him for exactly three seconds.
Then he smiled. "So..."
Peter sighed. "...Hi, Dad."
Tony grinned. "I missed you too."
Peter pinched the bridge of his nose. "You became my professor."
"I did."
"...Why?"
Tony shrugged as if the answer were obvious. "You moved out."
Peter stared at him. "...Dad."
"I was bored."
"You run Stark Industries."
"I can multitask."
Peter laughed despite himself. "You're impossible."
Tony smiled. "I know."
For the first time that morning, the lecture hall felt empty instead of overwhelming.
Tony picked up his Coffee. "So..."
Peter already knew what was coming.
"...Have you eaten?"
Peter rolled his eyes toward the ceiling. "...No."
"I thought so." Tony smiled like he'd just solved the easiest engineering problem in history. "Come on."
Peter shook his head, unable to hide his smile. "...You're buying."
Tony placed a hand dramatically over his heart. "Peter, I'm deeply offended that you would assume otherwise."
Together, they left the lecture hall.
Neither of them noticed the student standing at the end of the corridor.
He had only caught the last few seconds.
He hadn't heard the words.
But he had seen something strange.
Professor Stark...
...had smiled at Peter Parker in a way that looked nothing like a professor looking at a student.
And for some reason...
...Peter hadn't seemed surprised at all.
