Work Text:
Eijirou unlocks his front door and quietly enters without saying a greeting. He bends down to untie his shoes and gently drops his keys in a bowl. Eijirou leaves his suitcase by the door, not wanting to drag it with its squeaky wheel or pick it up and carry it further. He is still too tired after his overseas mission despite passing out on both plane rides home. Eijirou starts creeping towards the bedroom, hoping to surprise Katsuki with his early return.
His boyfriend is usually an extremely light sleeper, and Eijirou has unfortunately accidentally woken him up way too often. Katsuki claims he doesn’t mind being so aware at all times. He will be alerted to any break ins from common criminals or worse, any of the enemies they’ve made over the years. Katsuki also said, only to Eijirou, that he appreciates being able to tell when Eijirou starts having nightmares, so he can calm him down.
As Eijirou is passing by the living room to the hallway, he hears raspy breathing coming from his left. He turns, wondering if Katsuki let a friend crash on their couch, when he spots it. Katsuki is curled up on the couch, wrapped up snugly in a Red Riot blanket Kaminari had given him as a gag gift. His eyes and hair are the only visible parts of him.
Eijirou moves closer and frowns at the dark eyebags and crease between his boyfriend’s eyes. Unless Katsuki is having a nightmare, his sleeping face is the picture of peaceful. His scowl fades and his face loses all its tension. Yet, there are no other signs of a nightmare, no murmurs or sparks let off.
Eijirou hardens his hand and arm slightly as he gently shakes Katsuki awake just in case. Katsuki grumbles and slowly opens his bleary eyes. He seems to not recognize Eijirou for a few seconds until his eyes widen and he sits up, the blanket falling partially onto the floor.
Katsuki mumbles out “Eijirou” as he staggers up to practically collapse against his chest. Katsuki’s arms wrap tightly around his waist. Eijirou supports Katsuki as he guides them to their bedroom. They lay down on the bed together, Katsuki still clinging onto him.
Eijirou strokes his hair and asks him if anything bad happened. He hadn’t heard of anything, but he also hadn't checked the news after the mission ended. He has seen Katsuki like this a handful of times, overworked and running himself ragged anyway. Usually, a rescue or mission where Katsuki fails to save someone is the culprit. He runs himself into the ground to improve, to never let that happen again.
Katsuki buries his face further into Eijirou’s chest and breathes out, “I missed you. Can’t sleep without you.”
Warmth fills his heart along with a bit of guilt. Eijirou kisses the top of Katsuki’s head and hugs him tighter.
“I’m here now. Go to sleep.”
Katsuki soon loosens up in his arms, breathing evening out. Eijirou drifts off after, soothed by Katsuki’s presence.
“I’m home.”
