Chapter Text
The sky didn’t look like it was meant for a fair.
To be frank, it didn’t look real.
It was the FALL fair after all, it was meant to be cloudy out.
Noel wasn’t expecting the pearly clouds above the fair, levitating like they were their own Ferris wheel.
Their concert went well enough for the little effort put into it by the four people singing.
The six people in the choir but one literally couldn’t sing and the other refused to.
Noel frowned in remembrance, he didn’t fully understand how something that brought him so much joy could be something another person absolutely despised doing. But he assumes the same goes for this as it does for liking boys in a predominantly catholic, heteronormative town.
Sometimes the bullying gets to him. Sometimes the lines in white across his wrist make him feel like he should just get into a rollercoaster crash.
Impossible dreams, just like everything else he thinks about.
When Father Markus released them into the fair, Ocean told them all to pair up.
I can just slip out behind her, there’s no need to pair up with somebody that doesn’t want to pair up with the gay kid anyways. No matter how much they loved him. He thought, smirking and sidestepping to get behind Ocean.
Nobody would want to be my partner anyways.
“Yooo, Noel, you want to be my partner?”
Noel jumped. He was outside. He couldn’t start thinking like this.
“Yeah Misha, I’ll be your partner.” He smiled at Misha,
Their day at the carnival was filled with almost laughs.
Oh well,
at least they rode the ferris wheel.
That was Noel’s favorite ride. It made him feel romantic.
And he rode it with Misha.
So, a plus.
The fair was honestly fun, they met up with the other choir members and got in line for the last ride of the day, a big roller coaster with a loop, called the Cyclone.
Noel was calm. He didn’t exactly love roller coasters but he could pit up with one without being terrified.
Misha looked the complete opposite. His face paled the second Constance mention riding the coaster.
Misha turned to Noel, who was picking at his nail polish as they approached the big fortune machine.
“Noel, does death scare you?”
Misha’s wide eyes met Noel’s calmer ones.
“No, i think it’s an inevitable feat.” he thought for a moment. “Death never scared me, but I was always looking for a reason to stay.”
“Wishing to die and being fearful of it are almost the same thing.”
Confused, Noel prodded.
“How? I wanted to die because…” he stopped. He wanted to die because he didn’t want to die in this town. He wanted to die because he knew that if he died here, a celebration would be held. He wanted to die because he wanted to know if anyone would care.
He wanted to die because he was afraid he would die here and alone.
“You’re right. How did you know that?”
Misha shrugged. his sleeves rode up. “A hunch, poet.”
“Oh, I’m not a-“
Misha cut him off, “Poet? Don’t be silly, I’ve seen your work.”
Blush dusted Noel’s face. “Thank you.”
He never anticipated getting this personal with Misha of all people. Especially in line for a roller coaster.
Noel stepped up to the fortune teller after Ocean had gotten hers.
“Hello, I am the Amazing Karnak,”
Noel shuddered, this thing was creepy.
He pushed the lever.
“A goal without a plan can only be a mere wish for more than what you have.”
He received a little card.
“Your lucky numbers are, 6, 1, 7, 6, 1, 9.”
He walked up and compared it to Oceans card. she had the same numbers.
Odd.
