Looking Too Pretty in That Outfit

Summary:

Toya’s brother is getting married, and he needs a good outfit! He recruits his favourite people to help decide; the Tenma siblings and the remaining VBS members. Akito then gets flustered like crazy because he can’t stand the sight of his crush best friend in an insanely flattering tuxedo. Mischief (on Toya’s end) ensues.

Work Text:

“Toya. Your brother, Natsuomi, is coming back to Japan in October to have his wedding.

…Please respect his wishes for formal attire and get yourself something nice to wear.”

Honestly, Toya is really dreading having to go to this wedding. Being stuck in a place with all of his extended family, questioning him about his music career, while he has to either lie or awkwardly explain the sudden genre change within the Aoyagi family.

Plus, being in a stuffy, uncomfortable outfit during all of it makes his skin shiver at the thought.

Toya had aired out his grievances to Akito one day at practice as they sat on the cold floor, water bottles in hand.

“Do you know what you wanna wear to this wedding thing? I could help, y’know. Not that I really specialize in formal suit wear or anything…” Akito awkwardly suggests, rubbing the back of his neck.

That’s where Toya got the idea to have his closest friends help him choose the outfit. At the very least he would have some fun memories come out of this wedding…

—————————

Currently, it was one hour before this fancy suit shop closed. The Tenma siblings and remaining VBS members had spent literal hours picking and choosing various tuxedo sets for their model, Toya, to try on.

“This is such an amazing opportunity to dress him up!!” Saki had excitedly said, smiling widely.

He only had the last outfit to show off to the group, chosen by his aibou himself.

Toya shyly opens the dressing room curtain, stepping out rigidly before asking the group in front of him;

“How do I look?”

This outfit seemed to be the winner, if how everyone collectively gasped as he walked out was any indicator.

A cool-grey suit, a short yet powerful tailcoat, complete with a matching vest underneath the blazer. A crisp white dress shirt peaked out, with a patterned navy blue tie acting as the finishing touch.

The Tenma siblings practically have sparkles in their eyes as they beam towards their younger brother.

“Toya-kun, that style reeeally suits you~!” Saki gleefully exclames.

“Woah, you’re seriously dazzling Toya-kun! Just as expected, having a shining star as his fashion role model!” Tsukasa pridefully says, striking a signature pose, causing the other boy on the bench to roll his eyes in second-hand embarrassment.

“Way to make it about yourself…”

Toya pauses before shifting his gaze Akito’s way and politely asking, “…And what about you, Akito? I know you picked it out but— does it look okay?”

“Yeah, it looks great, Toya. Shit…” Akito mutters, his comment muffled due to the hands covering the blooming red expanding across his face.

“Are you sure? You don’t have to lie to spare my feelings, Akito. It’s okay to be honest and say that you don’t like it.”

“No, Toya… It’s not that. If anything dude, you look too good. Like… too fucking good.”

He immediately facepalms, having dug his grave deeper with every word.

Toya calmly steps towards Akito, gently grabbing his hands (that were covering his face) and forcefully carefully pulling them down to reveal the flushed mess that is the ginger boy.

A giggle escapes the taller’s lips and he cracks a small smile, causing his eyes to crinkle at the edges.

Akito might actually implode at the sight.

“You know, Akito looks really good like this too.” Toya says with a completely neutral expression, leaning in closer.

Okay, now Akito is going to explode.

Who the fuck wouldn’t? Having your crush of multiple years call you good looking while pulling your cowering hands down just to see you blush—

It was a sight to see for sure.

Akito currently sat on the retail store couch-bench, trying (and failing) to not gawk at his bestfriend, singing partner, aibou, and boy that he’s madly in love with.

Toya breathlessly giggled again, before letting his hands go and swiftly announcing to the group that he would be choosing this outfit. They all erupted in quiet (in the case of a certain star, not so much) cheers.

Once Toya had disappeared back behind the dressing room curtain, the flustered boy immediately dropped his head into his hands, blushing furiously.

“There, there, loverboy. Don’t worry, you’ll get to see him in a tuxedo again at my and Kohane’s wedding!” An mischievously says, feigning fake sympathy while rubbing Akito’s shoulder.

“Or at the Aoyagi-Shinonome wedding!” Kohane pipes up.

That just made Akito groan loudly into his palms, and the fiery red continued to spread through his ears and neck.

—————————

As the group of teens exit the store, say their goodbyes, and start to head their separate ways, Akito finds his arm being grabbed by a certain someone.

“Thanks for picking out this outfit for me, Akito. I knew I could trust your fashion expertise.”

He scoffs before waving his hand as if to humbly brush off Toya’s comment.

“Seriously dude, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m glad you found somethin’ that you like, though. I know how much you are dreading going to this thing.”

“Yeah… don’t remind me.” Toya sheepishly says, before remembering why he stopped him in the first place.

“Oh yeah, Akito. Would you mind coming to my place so we can decide what shoes to wear with this tuxedo? I’ve collected numerous pairs of dress shoes over the years from concerts and the like… but I don’t know which would be suitable with this ensemble,” he shyly asks, playing with the shopping bag’s satin ribbon handles.

“Sure, dude. Not too sure why you need me to pick out your dress shoes for you when they're probably all slightly different black ones, but I’m for sure down,” Akito shrugs his shoulders as he replies.

Toya smiles widely as he responds, “Perfect. Let’s get going before the sun fully sets!”

The walk to Toya’s place felt oddly romantic. A setting sun, the humid summer air being cut from the evening breeze, which left both of them slightly cold, and soft hands brushing as they walked side by side.

It was quite nice, to be honest.

Neither wanted the moment to end. It was peaceful, in a strange way.

When they finally arrived at his place, Toya eagerly exclaimed that he would go try on the outfit again, running off to his room to change.

Akito made himself comfortable by sitting on the living room couch, admiring his very clean and very grey surroundings. Childhood photos of the Aoyagi brothers were scattered around the living room, each in delicate silver frames.

Of course, Akito was only looking for Toya’s photos. He couldn’t care about anyone else, to be honest.

Just as he was about to pick one up from the mantel, he heard a familiar voice beckon him to his room.

Toya was standing in front of his full-length mirror, holding two sets of dress shoes by his feet.

“Akito, which ones do you prefer? I trust your judgement.” Toya says earnestly, looking over his shoulder at the boy standing in the entryway.

The ginger rubs his chin in pretend deep thought, before telling him, “The navy ones, obviously. They’re darker than your tie, but the black clashes too much.”

“See, I knew you would be a tremendous help!” Toya exclaims happily.

“I literally just stated the obvious, dumbass.” Akito bluntly explains, making his way over to Toya’s bed.

“Gonna sit here until you’re done gawking at yourself, ‘k partner?”

He nods, before slipping on the dark blue shoes, then turns to face the mirror again.

Toya admires himself in the mirror, turning to see all the embroidered details on the hem of the blazer.

“I really do feel like royalty wearing this.”

“No shit, you always look like some sorta royalty. But, especially now you really look like a prince.” Akito had said casually, trying to reassure Toya that he made the right choice.

“A prince?” the taller boy asks innocently.

“Yeah dude, you heard me right.”

Toya turns away from the mirror and steps towards his partner again, this time elegantly dropping to one knee and lightly grabbing Akito’s left hand.

“Would a prince do this?” Toya shyly asks (with a glint in his eye).

He gently presses his soft lips to Akito’s hand.

A gentle smile greets Akito as he looks up at his dazzling hazel eyes.

Toya is welcomed by blown wide eyes and an extremely flustered Akito, face tomato red and mouth agape.

The “prince” giggles at the sight, and sits himself right beside Akito on the bed.

Satisfied with the ginger’s reaction, Toya patronizes him by asking yet again while cocking his head;

 “Would a prince do that?”

Akito’s only thought was:

“Holy shit, am I dreaming?”

A soft laugh can be heard before a breathless reply.

“Maybe you are, Akito.”

Apparently that was also an outside thought.

“Pinch me.”

A pause, before Toya hesitantly speaks up.

“…Can I kiss you instead?”

Akito’s face scorched hot to the touch.

After a few seconds of silence and staring at one another, Toya awkwardly backtracks by adding, “Sorry, ignore me. I just thought—“

Now it’s the other boy’s turn to grab the soft, pale hands of his partner.

“Please,”

Akito pleads standoffishly, rare puppy-dog eyes on full display as he scoffs, trying to save his pride.

He fidgets with Toya’s cold hands, avoiding eye contact, impatiently waiting for a response.

Toya has never felt this way before. A fast paced, rhythmic melody beating in his chest. His milky skin is joined by a pink airbrushing of colour on the cheeks.

He decides to act before his nerves get the best of him.

A sudden lean and shy connection of the lips is all it takes for Akito to grab Toya’s face like it’s porcelain and press him harder against his own chapped lips.

Pale hands find the other boy's waist, grabbing for dear life to ground himself.

Both boys can’t help but think:

“Is this really happening??”

They hesitantly break apart, resting close enough apart that their breath still mingles together.

Toya’s closed grey eyes crinkle as he happily giggles and smiles with all his teeth, face pinked and flushed.

Akito’s bright red face is starting to subdue, a fond expression overtaking his features as he softly admires the boy in front of him.

As Toya’s giggles slowly come to a stop, he opens his eyes to gently look into Akito’s.

He then mutters something just above a whisper,

“I love you, Akito.”

“Me too, you dummy.” He mumbles as he ruffles his nose against Toya’s affectionately.

…

“Say it back.”

“What?” He giggles in confusion.

“I love you. Say it back.” Toya pouts in fake disappointment.

“Okay.”

“I love you, Toya.”

“That better?”

“Much better, Akito.”

Any further comments were cut off by an impatient kiss and firm grab of the waist.

—————————

Toya had to take the tuxedo to the dry cleaner the next day to rid it of the wrinkles.
