Work Text:
Orpheus and Eurydice spent their evenings the same everyday. Eurydice would cook dinner, Orpheus would do the dishes and they would sit in front of the tv and watch whatever show they were binging that month. Unfortunately for them one fateful night, their television was broken.
Not that they didn’t like being in each others presence alone, but it was just out of routine for them, so for 30 minutes they sat in deafening silence staring down at their plates.
Eurydice was the first one to break the silence after she looked over at her poets shaking leg.
“You know what I’ve realized.” She says before taking a final bite of her food.
He immediately looks up at her with his wide eyes curiously, with a glimmer of relief in his eyes.
“What?”
“Neither of our names are nicknameable.”
“Huh?”
She grabs both of their empty plates and walks over to the sink and places them both in there. “I can’t think of a good nickname for either of our names..”
He sits with that for a second.
“You’re right. I never really thought about that before.”
She returns to the couch and places her head on his shoulder.
“The only one I can think of for your name is like.. phe or something.”
He cringes.
“Yeah I regretted it right after it came out of my mouth.” She giggles.
“I mean it’s not like we don’t have nicknames for each other. And I think in all honesty the ones we come up for each other have much more meaning than just ones based off of our names.” She adds, her eyes wandering into the ceiling.
He looks at her and places a soft tender kiss on her temple.
“Well said.”
“Thank you poet.”
