Sleeping on the clock? Seriously?

Summary:

Secretary just wants to go home, but they’ve still got one last patient. Intern had been tasked of treating them, so what’s taking him so long? He sends Agent to go see what’s wrong with him, only to have them also disappear.

Or: Intern’s napping in one of the hospital beds, convinces Agent to join him, and now Secretary has to deal with this bullshit on his own.

Notes:

I haven’t written fanfiction in literal YEARS so i’m sorry if this is ass

I wanted to write something animal hospital related, and after several scrapped attempts, I just decided to write something cute and short.

Comments are very appreciated T.T

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Hey, go find the intern, we’ve still got one more patient before shift’s over,” Secretary grumbled, his head moving from the screen above him to the black cat near the coffee machine. He was tired, and he wanted to go home— but he couldn’t do that if there were still patients in the hospital. That’d just lead him to getting his ass kicked by Harlow, and he really didn’t want to deal with that.

“I’m sure that he’s getting to it,” The Agent hummed, nursing a mug of coffee in their paws. Honestly, they were just as tired as the Secretary, and didn’t want to go mindlessly search the halls of the hospital for the yellow bunny. They closed their eyes, taking a long sip of the dark liquid. It was nice and warm… God, that was just making them sleepier.

When they opened their eyes again, they saw the Secretary staring daggers at them.

“Okay, jeez. Don’t get your panties in a twist, bunny,” The Agent huffed. They placed their mug down on the counter, a soft ‘clink!’ noise being heard. Their tail whipped around annoyingly, upset over the fact that they were being commanded around. And by Secretary, no less. As they walked out the door of the office, they heard a quiet “Don’t give me that attitude,” from behind them.

In no mood for bickering, Agent only rolled their eyes as they made their way down the left hall. Where the hell was the intern? What was he being paid for if not to hurry up and cure patients? Actually, scratch that. He probably wasn’t even being paid. No wonder.

“Intern?” Agent called out lazily as they opened the door to the third room, their eyes examining the hospital room. Then, their eyes landed on a familiar bunny rolled up in the hospital bed. Seriously?! Agent scoffed and pushed the door open, sharply strutting over to the bed. They looked down, only to see that Intern was well passed out and far away in the land of dreams.

“Intern!” Agent called again, their voice raising with irritation.

“Hmm…” Intern groaned, rubbing a paw over one of his eyes as he adjusted to the bright sterile lights in the hospital room. He yawned, and threw the blanket over his head, “What…?”

“What do you mean what?” Agent said with obvious exasperation. The last thing that they wanted was to force the bunny awake, far too tired to deal with this bullshit.

“Get your ass up, you’ve got a job to do,” They grumbled. To their dismay, Intern had fallen asleep yet again. Agent’s tail flicked behind them, their arms folded. Oh, no. No, Intern didn’t get the luxury to just fall asleep on the clock! If they and Secretary had to stay up, then so did he! Frustrated, Agent pulled the cover off of Intern and then shook his shoulder harshly.

That earned him a long groan from Intern, who began to whine about being tired.

“Oh, c’mon… Why don’t you go do it?” Intern whined, opening his eyes again to look up at Agent, who definitely did not look happy with him at all.

“You said you’d handle the last two patients— and I come find you and turns out you’re napping?” Agent replied, their brows furrowed.

Ahh… That’s right. Intern did say he’d handle the last two. He had wanted to prove that he could be a good team player…

“Can you blame me? I’m tired, and there’s just so many beds everywhere…”

“We’re all tired, Intern,” Agent quipped. Intern only rolled his eyes, still not sitting up from his spot.

“Well if you’re so tired, why don’t you just join me? Hm? Win-win!” Intern smiled, scooting over to make room for the cat to join him. He even patted the spot next to him, his usually creepy looking smile looking more playful right now.

Agent looked at him with a look of disbelief.

“Intern, go do your job,” They said with a tired sigh, pinching the bridge of their nose with their paw.

“Aww, c’mon! You know you want to…” Intern responded, a sing-song tone in his voice as he patted the spot again.

Agent stayed silent for a moment. On one hand, they could throw away all basic sense and just join intern— hearing their brain begging them to take a nap— or on the other, they could stick to their usual persona and force the intern to go take care of the final patient.

But the bed just looked so… cozy. And they were really tired.

Oh, to hell with it. If Secretary really wanted to go home, they could just handle the final patient. Was it in code? Hell no. But the hospital was already a shit-show with the amount of crazy things that happened, a Secretary handling someone’s Canadian illness was the least important thing that could happen in this hospital.

“If we get in trouble, I’m blaming it on you,” Agent huffed as they began to lay down next to Intern, who looked a little too happy to sleep beside a coworker.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever you say, Kitty,” Intern nodded his head, pulling the cover over the both of them.

Agent closed their eyes, their tail curling around the two of them underneath the sheets. Their breathing slowed, turning to a soft purr as the warmth of the bunny beside them began to reach them.

Intern’s smile softened. He closed his eyes, his heart beating a little faster. It’s not often you get to have this kind of moment with a coworker you might-kind-of-sort-of like. Delicately, he placed a paw over Agent, who didn’t seem to fight back against the touch. So, he pulled the cat a little closer to him.

Agent rested their head against Intern’s, enjoying the warmth of the other. They were dead tired, and this was rather lovely. They knew it was weird, to say the least, but whatever. Their purring got a little louder, but only slightly. It wasn’t long before the pair fell asleep, Agent in Intern’s arms.

“Here’s your maple syrup, now please leave,” Secretary exhaled, their anger barely hidden from the patient who nodded quickly and made their merry way out of the hospital. He was so going to kill those two tomorrow.

Notes:

I wanna write something longer, but I gotta start small!
