Chapter Text
“Dear Hummer,
I hope this email finds you well.
I don't know why Levi let me in and not you. I don't know why he stopped my recording, or why all my screenshots are blank. Like I was never really there.
I don't know what Levi is.
Or what he wants.
But I can promise you this. I won't stop until I figure it out.
For you, and for me.
Yours,
Wifies.”
That was the email Wifies had sent me after the strange experience he had with the Leviathan. I had read it over and over again, struggling to believe that he had been the one chosen. He had been searching for what, a day? A week? I had been trying to find the Leviathan for over half a year. 8 months of research for nothing. Reading, hunting, building. 8 months of slowly losing my mind, all for him to be chosen instead?? I was fairly annoyed. Reasonably so, I'd say. But I knew I had to reply eventually. So, begrudgingly, I opened my email once more and began to type.
‘Your research was useless..” he said. It's always him always saying stuff. Trying to stop me, ‘you should’ve given up..’ I ignored him, something I had grown used to doing over time.
“Wifies,
Apologies for not responding to your email sooner. I found myself in a state of shock and had to take some time to myself. To reflect.
I'm glad that you're determined to continue research. Would you be willing to meet in our previous world again? I have spent a few days furthering my research and discovered some things I hadn't noticed before.. somehow.
If you would prefer to continue investigating alone, I completely understand, but if not I will be waiting in the same world, at the same time as prior meetings.
Yours,
Hummer5718.”
~~ Wifies ~~
I stared shocked at the email. Seriously? He's just going to do it alone. I mean after everything? The leviathan is real. He knew he couldn't let Hummer do it alone, the video can't be over yet can it? And even if it is. I needed to see Hummer. Maybe the last time. I typed a reply to the email
“Dear Hummer.
I appreciate you reaching out again.
I don't currently have plans to continue my investigation with others, however if you are asking for company I would be willing to provide it.
I'll be in the world to speak with you at the agreed time. I'm glad to hear from you again.
Yours,
Wifies.”
~~ Hummer ~~
At 5pm I loaded into the world where Wifies and I first met. I watched the Minecraft sun setting in the distance and felt nostalgia wash over me. The sunsets in Minecraft had always meant a lot to me. They reminded me of the world I could never reach again.. I heard a noise from somewhere close to me. It sounded like laughter.
“Good to see you again, friend” Wifies said, chuckling. I startled and spun my avatar around to face him. I felt a smile ease onto my face and I greeted him in return.
“Hi Wifies.”
I had started finding talking a bit more difficult than usual, so I normally stuck to shorter responses, unless I got excited over something. Which was rare. All that was exciting to me now was Levi. ‘Are you sure?’ I heard someone say, but I frowned slightly and ignored it.
“I'm glad you made it Wifies.”
I said, making my avatar crouch a few times in a greeting a friend taught me before.
“Me too, so. Why did it let me in but not you? I mean you deserved it way more!”
I rolled my eyes at his obvious point.
“Well. I've been doing research, as I stated in my email previously. From what I've seen, it hates when you have any sort of item in your inventory that could heal you.. What was in your inventory?”
I asked, but I was certain I already knew the answer.
“Oh in my inventory there was a picaxe some redstone things and what food..”
I hummed in response.
“So not, say, a water breathing potion?”
I asked, slight venom in my voice. Wifies stopped moving for a few seconds, his avatar staring into the eyes of mine.
“I had no potions in my inventory except the empty one, I gave my last one to you didnt i?”
I stayed quiet for a few moments.
“You did.”
I stated simply, waiting for him to understand my meaning.
“And then I threw it out of my inventory, right?”
I asked.
“Yeah, didnt you pick it up accidentally though?”
I glared at him.
“And you didn't say anything!?”
I questioned him, anger rising in me.
“I didnt think of it at the time.”
I scoffed.
“You really don't understand, do you? I have no idea how I'm meant to EVER find Levi now!”
I heard laughter again, from inside my mind this time. I ignored it, clenching my fists as I stared at my screen.
“Why do you even care so much about finding a minecraft entity?!”
I took a deep breath.
“I.. need it to survive, okay? You don't need to know details, Wifies, you've known me for a few days at most! It isn't your business! Just know you've- you've ruined my chance at- at.. at curing what's wrong with me!!”
“What do you mean need it to survive?! Its a minecraft entity goddamn! It cannot be that important that you cant live without finding it! Just-just tell me what the fuck is wrong!”
I was breathing heavily at this point, not believing his audacity.
“Why should I tell you, huh? You clearly won't treat it seriously!! It's none of your business anyway, I'm just a stranger on the internet!”
I couldn't believe I was having an argument with someone on a Minecraft server, but then again I couldn't believe a lot of what happened in my life. ‘You have a habit of pushing people away.. did you know that, Derek?’ I was so angry that I felt tears forming in my eyes, but I fought them down, refusing to cry over such a stupid thing. I couldn't believe I had become so emotional. What was this guy's problem?? There was no way I would tell him about any of this. I had to deal with it myself, or I would be endangering everyone around me.
“What? You got nothing to say now?”
I asked, annoyed at Wifies’ silence.. ‘make up your mind..’
“Im not a stranger. We helped eachother! Heck i even payed 75 dollars for some stupid redstone things. Just because you convinced me to believe in something i wasnt even 100% sure if it even existed!”
I fell silent for a moment. All of that was.. true. Wifies had done a lot for me. He had believed in me when I had no evidence. He was kind to me. He cared. Maybe.. ‘Are you seriously going to tell him? Come on, be real. How do you know he can be trusted?’ I gritted my teeth. If I didn't tell him because I could trust him, I would just to defy that stupid thing in my head. I opened my mouth to speak, but then..
“I dont need you.”
I paused for a second.
“What did you say?”
“I dont need you! I can do everything alone.”
“Then why are you here??”
“Because i wanted to see one last time how pathetic you actually are.”
I was stunned. I knew I had been a bit harsh, but was that really true? Was I actually pathetic?
…
What the fuck was I thinking? Why was I going to let some asshole upset me over nothing?
“Then leave. If you can do it on your own, do it! Don't come crawling back to me!”
~~ Wifies ~~
Was he talking to himself? Hes having a conversation with someone that doesnt exist..
“Are.. you okay?”
I asked, moving my avatar slightly closer to him as some sort of comforting gesture.
“What did you just say!??”
He asked, voice rising.
“Hummer.. I asked if you’re ok? Your talking to yourself..” I Said.
“What- No I'm not! You just called me pathetic! You- You're such a liar!”
He sounded frantic and angry. I was confused. I hadn't said anything for about a minute before he had his outburst. What if he was just insane? It would explain a lot..
“Listen Hummer.. I'm not a liar.. Could it be that you have schizophrenia?”
Hummer made an offended sound.
“Stop trying to gaslight me! I'm not schizophrenic I- Oh. Oh shit..”
I felt like I was having a fever dream. I pinched my arm to make sure I was awake and winced in pain. What was this guy on about??
“Hummer. Whats going on?”
~~ Derek ~~
I couldn't believe how naive I had been.
“Don't.. worry about it, Wifies. It's.. It's personal.”
I was struggling to trust him. How did I know he didn't say all that? How did I know he was even.. real? I moved my avatar backwards, away from his. He noticed, of course he did and moved his avatar closer to mine again..
“Wifies. You shouldn't be getting yourself involved in this. The last person who did.. Well, let's just say we don't talk much.”
“You could still talk to him, you know..”
I was getting sick of the bastard in my head. Wifies was silent. I suddenly felt like I had to leave. I didn't want to open up to him more. Me opening up to anyone always led to them being in perilous danger. Just as my mouse was hovering over disconnect, he spoke.
“Dont even think of leaving.. Please hummer.just… tell me whats going on. I know you dont want to, but maybe i can help…”
I took a shaky breath.
“Fine. Fine! You wanna know what's going on?”
I paused, waiting for him to object. When he didn't, I continued.
“I can't explain this without sounding insane, but.. have you ever heard of someone called D3rlord3? Or.. Avery?”
It had been months since he said his name outloud..
“Well.. if you have, you know what happened, correct?”
“I mean yeah.. I created a video about what happened to them, why are you bringing this up?” Wifies asked, not knowing why.
“Well.. I am D3rlord. Derek. Either one works. Um.. I'm alive.. I think. But. So is the King. He's sharing a brain with me. I'm pretty sure, anyway.”
I felt awkward explaining myself, knowing he wasn't going to believe me, but he was the one who asked so I was going to at least try. Maybe, since he knew my situation, he could help..?
“Thats not.. How is that possible…? Their- your story…it was fictional..” Wifies said moving his avatar behind a little..
“I said it sounded insane.. I don't know why you think I'm fictional. That's a lie, I do, but is it that hard to believe? You saw a mythical god in minecraft. Would anyone believe you if you told them that?”
I asked, trying to reason with him. I knew I was real.
..
In a way.
~~ Avery ~~
I was on Minecraft. Again. Funny, isn't it? 8 months and I still haven't been able to do anything. I was put on medication but it doesn't do much. I printed Derek's letter out and stuck it to my wall, so I can read it whenever. Not that I closed the tab. I was playing in a new world, since I couldn't bear the one I found him in. I had gotten a wolf and named it D3rlord3, as a way to cope, but that just made it harder to log off. Every time I disconnected it felt like I was abandoning him again. How stupid is that? I can't even bear to leave a dog with his name. I checked the time. 11:53 pm. Why was it always that time? I knew I should probably go to bed, but that day was one of my worst, so I left my world open and dragged myself over to my bed. I suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot through me. Shit. I hadn't taken my binder off in like 3 days. That wasn't good. I forced myself into a sitting position. Fuck it hurt to breath. If only you were here, I chuckled. I told myself a thousand times the same thing: I shouldn't care so much if someone I barely knew died.. But you were the only one who checked on me. Motivated me to keep going forward no matter what, didn't care for how I looked. That's why I grieve for you.. That's why I care. I pulled my binder off, wincing as I took in the first real breath I had taken in days.
I was in a field of red flowers. It looked like one of the worlds from my journey to find.. him. I felt tears prick my eyes and I lowered myself onto the ground, taking in deep breaths and appreciating the lack of pain in my chest. I shut my eyes and let the sun shine down on me, basking in the warmth. I felt the warmth drain away all of a sudden and opened my eyes, confused. What I saw left my mind blank. Him. Derek. He smiled at me, what was really hard considering he had a helmet on. I ran to him, as fast as I could. He kept getting further and further, I reached out trying to touch him.. Just a little bit closer. Derek turned to face me properly, and his shining golden eye was the last thing I saw before..
“Wifies I AM real!”
A voice from above made Avery jump up, awoken suddenly from his dream.
The voice sent shivers down his spine, it sounded like him. Avery sat up in his bed,
“Who the fuck is screaming so late..” he looked at his clock besides his bed and oh. How was it 2:53 am!? He went to sleep at 11am!! Right..? Well.. There were more important things to deal with at the moment. Avery rushed through the apartment, throwing random clothing items on and grabbed water and ran to the front door.
Why the hell is my neighbour above me talking to Wifies.. He was the one who created the video about me and Derek. I left my apartment and went to the staircase, my neighbour lived on the third floor right? I looked at all the doors and searched for their number. Now to think of it, I never even met them. Hopefully they're not an old woman who yaps 24/7. I'm still pretty tired and I think I left minecraft open, but it was too late to go back now. I stared at their door, gripping the shoulder bag I had brought with me, and raised a hand to knock.
“Hey… I'm your neighbour from downstairs and heard some screaming.. Everything okay?”
