Chapter 1: Here we go

Chapter Text

Dean had known cas since he was around 9, John went on a hunt with cas' dad and he didnt make it out.. Cas didn't have anyone else to go to and John, for some reason stupid reason (as he says) decided to keep him.

Cas was always a bit.. Odd, but he got along fine with the boys. Hed taken a liking to dean in-particular. Of course he liked Sam as well but he always chose dean over anyone else.

John was always easier on cas than the other two, of course dean would get blamed for any accidents being the older brother, but cas was older than dean just by a little under a year. I guess John felt wrong to try anything with cas since he wasn't his son. Most of the time he avoided him.

Tuesday 8:47 pm

"Alright I should be back in four days. If I don't call you by then call Bobby. You know his number." John said as he buttoned his shirt sleeve and threw his rifle on his back.

"Yes sir" dean nodded

John looked back at dean specifically before shooting the other two a quick glance "you boys be good"

"Yes sir" dean and Sam said in unison, cas nodded in the back

With the click of the door latch, they were left alone in the motel room with only the faint buzz of the light overhead

Dean turned around and looked at Sam "it's your bedtime" he said in a sarcastically condescending tone

"Dean I'm eleven. Dads gone. I'm staying up" he mumbled

Dean shrugged "kay." Before walking over to the little fridge and pulling out one of his dads many beers

when he turned around he saw both sam and cas giving him a judgemental look "what?? Fuck off let me have a drink. Dads not coming back for a few days anyway he won't notice" he said as he waved his arms around

"It's not good for you" cas said

"Ok and I'm supposed to care... Why? Cas we get dragged across the country three times a week and eat crap canned shit that's been out of date for God knows how long. Ill live."

Cas just rolled his eyes

Dean walked over to the door and stepped outside, making sure he was out of eyeshot from the window. He sat down on the cold concrete and pulled a pack of cigarettes and a lighter out from his jacket and lit it.

After like ten minutes he heard the quiet squeak of the door and didn't bother to look who it was

"You gonna talk or just stand there and stare at me like a creep" dean mumbled

"those are bad for you too." Said the voice behind him

"I don't know what I'd do without you cas" dean said sarcastically as cas sat down beside him

He glanced at dean before looking up at the sky

Deans gaze followed cas'. After a long moment he felt a hand brush his, he looked over at cas who was already looking at him

Cas pulled the cigarette out of his hand and took a drag, deans hand hovered in the same spot for just a second before falling down at his side. The touch raised his heart rate a bit but that's probably just because he isn't used to touch

Dean took a sip of his beer before hugging his legs and rested his chin on his knees. Cas offered the cigarette back to dean in exchange for his beer

"Oh first you steal my smoke and now my drink?" He said in a voice softer than he meant to use as he handed the bottle to him and took another drag. "Whats Sam doing anyway?"

"Mesmerized by the tv." He muttered in between sips "some sci fi flick"

Dean nodded. After a long while of silence dean started to think and when he thought too long he thought about things he didn't like thinking about;

so he filled the silence in with some pointless blabbering "do you remember that one Christmas when... I think it was like three years ago, sammy was 9. Anyways we were in that crappy motel room, I mean crappier than most, and we played truth or dare and I dared you to chug a whole beer"

"... No. Actually I don't remember like most of that night" cas said in a flat tone

Dean smiled "yea... You-..." He cut himself off

"What??" Cas said curiously

Dean shook his head "nothin. Don't worry about it." 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘶𝘱. Probably because the alcohol is starting to fuck with him

He replayed the memory in his head a few times; he was sitting on the couch and cas was laying beside him, his face illuminated by the faint glow of the lights on the tiny Christmas tree (if you could even call it that, it was more of a shrub. Dean used the last of the money he'd scrounged up to buy it).

" your pretty" cas said, his words were slurred

The voice replayed in his head a few times

"Dean?" The same voice, only this time slightly different, caught his attention. His gaze shot toward cas and he gave him a quick fake laugh "uh yea sorry I just uh.. Spaced out"

"What wer-" cas started

"I think I'm gonna head inside.. You gonna finish that?" Dean said as he stood up, gesturing to the bottle on the ground beside cas

Cas looked up at him, the street light across from them shining on his face similar to the Christmas lights. His expression was a mix of confusion, annoyance, and slight concern. After a moment he took a sip before handing the rest to dean

Dean took it and drank the rest of it in one go, on the same side cas had just drank from. He pushed that thought away before it could surface his mind
