Chapter Text
First days are always hard, That's what you told yourself over and over during the bus drive to your new work at a small diner, you wondered how long you'd even have your job, the Diner was struggling for as long as you knew it existed. With a quick exhale you feel the bus screech to a stop and you jerk forward awkwardly, off balance slightly.
Exiting the bus you glance towards the Diner, big loud flashy sign out front that cleary read 'This & That Diner' and a smaller sign under it 'Open 24/7'. You wondered how they afforded enough employees to be open 24/7 for a moment before clearing your throat and entering the small building.
As soon as you entered you couldn't hold a small gasp back, it was beautiful, it really captured the 1980's look it was going for, bright teal highchairs littered the checkered yellow and black floor, small tables surrounding each chair in a small semi circle, ketchup and mustard was neatly placed on each table alongside with a short and neat menu. Pictures of colorful waves scattered the walls and you just couldn't take your eyes off it.
"Y/N?" A small nervous voice asked meekly as a short skinny guy skated over to you on brilliant blue roller skates. Your eyes scanned him over automatically, he was wearing a neat white and black suit and had a small coffee stain on his left pocket, he had a shy smile but behind it had a calculating expression, but what caught you most off guard was his eyes, one amber, one blue. He was overly skinny and you could see he worked out as muscles pushed against his suit.
Quickly shutting your mouth you didn't realize was open you reply smoothly "That's me!"
Kay gives a quick polite nod and ushers you over to follow him as he rolls back through a door reading 'STAFF ONLY'. You follow quickly and shoot the diner one last look before entering the dark backrooms.

It wasn't much long later you were serving customers at extreme speed, skating aroung on hot pink glittery roller skates you picked out, you flashed a huge welcoming smile to a teenage couple who just entered.
"Table for two please" The teenage boy chirps and the girl nods eagerly. You flash another smile and lead them to a randomly selected free table, handing them their menus you grin and ask "Have you been here before?", the boy nods eagerly and exclaims "Yes! I love the food here!"
Before you can ask what they want to drink the girl talks in a bored tone "Why did you bring me to such a dump?". Feeling a flash of anger, for reasons you'll have to unpack later you huff out "Why did you pick such a lame outfit?"
The couple stare at you with wide eyes, unable to say anything, the girl stands up, rage blazing in her eyes, she slapped you hard across the face, the loud slap echos in the room and you freeze up, this wasn't the first time this happend because of your talkative mouth, but definitely the hardest hit yet. The girl storms out with the boy closely behind. Guess your going to get fired.. again
A hand on your shoulder makes you jump and yelp, Kay immediately retracts his hand with a nervous smile and talks in a hush to not bother the other customer. "Uh, what happend?". You felt embarrassment crawling up your face and manage to squeak out a small "sorry". Kay sighs softly and rubs his greasy hair with a pained expression. "That's okay... Thanks for defending the restaurant I guess-"
You nod hesitantly as Kay pulls you back into the backrooms, to what you assume is to fire you. But to your surprise he sits you down on an old wooden chair and fetches an icepack, skating over he presses the icepack to your face where you're starting to form an ugly bruise. Kay tisks slightly meeting his eyes with you "what exactly happened?"
Taking a deep breath you explain how you felt offended on the behalf of the diner and just kinda, told her, her outfit was lame.. To your surprise, Kay chuckles and pats you on the shoulder. "Tiffany I assume. She's also a sassy one, slapped me a couple of times for messing up her order". You pause slightly and chuckle at the thought. "That's kind of rude" you chuckle louder this time.
Kay grins meekly "it was quite rude-" he mutters with a small nod, taking off the icepack slightly to check your bruising and mutters something unheard under his breath before speaking up directly to you "You can head home early today. Get some rest". You nod with a guilty expression, your now leaving him to do all the work because you couldn't leave your stupid mouth shut.

It was about an hour of uncomfortable stares on the public transit train by the time you got home. Your little apartment was nothing to brag about, having a few photos hung up of your family before... everything. But you were happy, at least That's what you told yourself. With a sigh you sit at the large table staring out the window with a content sigh. The lights flickered from cars racing by and you couldn't help but smile. Maybe tomorrow wouldn't be so bad after all!
