Chapter Text
Park Jimin has always been loved.
This is a known fact amongst his friends and family. A soul as kind and pure as his own deserves nothing less, this is what Kim Taehyung believes in at the very least.
The first time Jimin and him had kissed, they were seventeen and too curious for their own good.
It wasn’t planned; it just happened. That was how Taehyung would remember the moment years later. Not the kiss itself, though he remembered every detail of that too, but how ordinary the moment had been beforehand.
They were sprawled across Taehyung’s bedroom floor playing Mario Kart with Jimin raging with every hit. Empty snack wrappers littered the wooden floor, rain tapping lightly against the window.
Taehyung giggling at every little gasp and sound of annoyance Jimin would let out.
“Have you ever wondered what kissing a guy would be like?” Taehyung asked, eyes slightly wandering over to Jimin who seemed to be too engrossed in the game to pay him any mind.
“Don’t you dare try to distract me! I’m winning this shit whether you like it or not.” Jimin yelled before ultimately being hit with a blue shell and falling to 10th place.
“Damn it Tae! I could’ve won that, you did that on purpose didn’t you.” Jimin stated as he glared daggers towards Taehyung.
“Haha no, but it did help me win this race…again.” Taehyung said smiling, looking back towards the TV.
“That’s cheating!” Jimin exclaimed, turning to fully face Taehyung and looking quite flabbergasted.
Taehyung continued to chuckle while looking up towards the ceiling. He then turned his gaze towards Jimin, having a curious look.
“Sucks to suck! Now answer my question.”
“Wait that was a real question? Well, I guess I never really thought of that.”
“Really? I’ve been curious about it for a while. One of my classmates was talking about how it felt kissing his girlfriend and I was sitting there thinking, well what about a dude?”
“You have a strange mind at times Tae.”
“Thank you, I’ll be here all week with thought provoking questions. But joking aside, do you think you would ever do so willingly?”
Jimin paused to think about this deeply. He knows Taehyung, there must be another reason why he was asking such a thing.
“Well, I can’t say I specifically thought about kissing a guy. I don’t think I would mind, maybe. Not sure, I guess it would depend on who it is you know? I’m more of a romantic, I feel like I would need some kind of relationship to do something like that. Friendly kisses on the cheek I probably wouldn’t bat an eye for – be it man or woman, but I know you mean the lips. Why? I know you said that you thought about it, but did you have someone in mind? You know I would never judge you for something like that right?”
“Chimchim you are a sweetie. No one in particular, I was just thinking about it.”
A comfortable silence settled between them as they began to clear the space.
“Do you want to kiss?” Taehyung asked while picking up the leftover wrappers, keeping his eyes on the ground and avoiding Jimin’s gaze.
“Eh? Taehyung, my lovely brethren in arms, what possessed you to ask me that?” Jimin asked, stopping what he was doing and directing his confused gaze towards Taehyung.
“Honestly man, your lips just look so kissable, I think I wouldn’t mind kissing a dude if it was you. Call it curiosity if you will, I don’t think I would want to kiss another guy, but you, I would. Don’t think too much of it, if you feel uncomfortable with it then you can say no, I won’t take offence. I know this is random, even for me.” Taehyung slowly lifted his gaze towards Jimin, stopping what he was doing to slowly make his way towards him until they were face to face with Jimin raising his head slightly to meet Taehyung’s gaze.
“That’s a terrible reason to kiss someone you know. But also, I will take the compliment. I do have great lips.” Jimin giggled, touching his lips.
Taehyung also chuckled, his gaze turning softer.
“Well?”
“Um, honestly, I’m not sure. Maybe. I don’t want things to get weird between us.”
“Nothing will change Chim, I swear. I just want to know what it’s like.”
A pause.
Both staring into each other’s eyes, careful not to make a move or lose the contact.
Awkward.
Too long.
Too uncertain.
Terrifying.
“Okay.” Jimin said so softly that Taehyung was barely able to hear it.
Okay.
Okay.
Jimin said okay.
Taehyung couldn’t help but stare, his gaze slowly lowering towards the pair of lips that he has been thinking about longer than he would like to admit.
And then, somehow, they were both moving towards each other. Before they knew it, they were leaning in, carefully as if they did not want to scare the other.
Taehyung’s forehead bumped into Jimin’s nose.
Both immediately burst out laughing, breaking the tension that built.
“Oh my god, Tae! I am not that short!” Jimin giggled, closing his eyes and throwing his head back, missing the way Taehyung’s eyes softened to an emotion that neither would know what to call.
And then Taehyung grabbed the back of Jimin’s neck and kissed him.
It was brief. Short. Mostly just lips touching.
And it was over just as quickly as it had started.
Both slowly opened eyes that they did not realize they closed.
“So did that quench your curiosity?” Jimin asked, maintaining eye contact.
“Just a smidge. Want to do it again?” Taehyung asked, wiggling his brows. Jimin couldn’t help but laugh.
And then they were both laughing together.
Something warm settled between them afterward.
Not romance, just trust.
“You’re still my favourite person Minnie”
“And you mine Tae”
That’s what mattered more than anything.
