Chapter Text
Spot had never considered himself a relatively kind person. Sure, he’d give people rides from time to time, but he’d never start the conversation that they’d have on the ride. That just wasn’t his thing. He liked keeping secrets, and being quiet. He liked to make sure his secrets stayed… well, secret.
As the bell blared for sixth period, Spot couldn’t help but grit his teeth. He didn’t hate Ms. Medda, he hated the fact that she taught theatre, he hadn’t signed up for that elective, he hadn’t signed up for any electives. He was too busy doing other things to remember to fill out the form. Even after the counselor had reminded him many times.
“You know, Sean. I’m worried about you. Your brain always seems elsewhere, and you’ve skipped class multiple times this month.” She’d say. Spot would ignore this, and move on with his day.
Spot made his way through the locker lined halls, looking up at people slightly, but mainly focusing on his own feet. Then, a friend of his approaches.
“Oh my god. You have to have heard the rumors, right?” Katherine Pulitzer Plumber asks, pulling him from his thoughts. Spot clears his throat, replying gruffly,
“There’s a lot of rumors at this school, so, likely, no.” Katherine frowns disapprovingly at his response, clicking her tongue.
“Spot, I’m serious. Elmer got jumped by the Delancey’s.” She says. Spot reply’s in a dry tone,
“That sounds like a fact to me.” He says, continuing his purposeful stride through the hallway. Katherine shoots him a look, defending her case.
“I didn’t say that was the rumor.”
“Pretty sure you did.”
“No. I didn’t. I’m saying that Elmer got jumped because there was a rumor he was…”
Katherine trails off, glancing around wearily, before dropping her tone and stage whispering, “Homosexual.”
That causes Spot to finally glance up at her, narrowing his eyes and stopping for a second, before someone shoulder checks him and mutters, “Keep walking.” Spot quickly picks up his pace again after that, telling Katherine,
“That’s not a huge deal, right?” He doesn’t expect an answer, but, he doesn’t wait for one either before turning swiftly into Medda’s classroom.
“Welcome in everyone, take a seat and focus on the question displayed on the board.” Ms. Medda’s voice was a loud booming sound in Spot’s four-hour-of-sleep-ears. Though he took a seat a glanced up at the question on the board, Are you the same person now, than the person you are when no one’s looking? It reads.
That’s deep, and weirdly complicated to understand. Spot thinks. But he’s multiple different people anyways, to teachers and his Mother, he’s Sean. To his friends and peers, he’s Spot, and to the entire city of New York, without them knowing, he’s Spider-Man.
