Truth or Dare

Summary:

Luz, Amity, Willow, and Gus play a game of truth or dare, in which feelings come to light.

Work Text:

Amity had been expecting another boring, unexceptional day, wake up, go to school, maybe talk with Luz for a little bit, and work until she eventually fell asleep at her desk.

What she had forgotten to count on was Luz. It didn’t matter how or when, but even since Luz had started attending Hexside, not a boring day has gone by and Amity, despite her Little Miss Perfect mask she put up, loved it.

She was walking to her locker to put away unnecessary books and take out the necessary ones when she was taken off guard by Luz appearing next to her.

“Hey, Amity!” Amity turned to face her. ‘Titan, isn’t she pretty.’ The witch thought to herself. “O-oh! Hey L-Luz!” She stuttered out. ‘I need to tell her soon, I can hardly function around her!’

“Sooo… feel free to say no! But,” Luz started. ‘You say that as if I could ever say that to your cute face.’ Amity wanted to say, but didn’t. “I was wondering if maybe you’d like to have a sleepover with me, Gus, and Willow?” The human stated.

“Oh, uhhhh, are they okay with it?” Amity asked, she didn’t want to make her new friends(?) uncomfortable. “Yeah, they’re fine with it. I checked right before coming over here.” Luz said as she pointed over her shoulder to Willow and Gus, who waved.

“Oh, yeah sure! I just have to tell the twins to cover for me.” Amity said as she drew a spell circle to summon it. Once it was summoned, she tapped on the screen until a ding went out, signifying the message being sent through.

Amity: Could you two cover for me tonight?

Ed: awwww is Mittens hanging out with her girlfriend again

Em: oh please Ed we both know that she could never work up the
courage to actually ask Luz out

Amity: Shut up! Both of you!

Em: hey Ed 20 snails says Luz asks her out

Ed: deal

Amity: Ughhhhh! Can you two cover for me or no?

Em: yeah, sure, just make sure you don’t lose me 20 snails

Amity: Thanks!

Once Amity drew another spell circle to put the scroll away she voiced her annoyance to Luz. “They are so annoying! But they did cover for me so I guess I can’t complain too much.”

“Alright!” Luz exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around the witch’s waist. The two looked at each other and started blushing heavily before the human quickly released her grip. The two looked away in hopes the other didn’t see their blushes.

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending how you look at it, for both they did notice each other’s blushes. ‘Wa-was she… blushing at me? Nononono, that can’t be right. Her? Having a crush on me?! What a silly, dreamy, situation.’ They both thought before they started blushing again.

Luz cleared her throat, “S-sorry about that.” She mumbled. “I-It’s fine…” Amity started. ‘More than fine if we’re being honest.’

The two girls turned to face each other once again. “Anyway! You ready to head out?”  Luz asked as a distraction from what had just happened. “Yeah! Yeah I am.” Amity confirmed before they both walked over to Willow and Gus, the former giving Amity a knowing smirk, which caused the green-haired witch to blush.

The group of 4 walked out of the front doors of Hexside and to the Owl House, every now and then Luz would lose herself staring at Amity before being rudely interrupted by Willow tapping her on the shoulder.

When they got to the Owl House Amity realized she didn’t have anything to sleep on but Luz assured that Eda had spare sleeping bags she could use. When the kids got up to Luz’s room Willow and Gus set up their sleeping bags, while the human rummaged through the pile of stuff to pull one out and laid it across the floor for Amity to use.

Luz plopped down on her sleeping bag and the rest followed suit. “Okay, do you guys have truth or dare here?” The human asked and the rest nodded. “Okay great! You guys want to play it?” She questioned. “Sure.” Willow said. “Meh, why not?” Gus agreed. Amity, not trusting her voice, just nodded.

“Okay, I’ll go first.” Luz said as she tapped her chin in thought. “Willow! Truth or dare?” Luz asked. “Truth.” Willow responded. “Hmmmm. What’s your favorite color?” Luz said. “Green.” Willow answered.

“Okay, hmmmm, Gus!” Willow called out. “Oh.” Gus said as he tapped his chin in thought and hummed. “Dare.” Gus answered the unasked question. “I dare you to draw a light glyph from memory.” Luz handed a spare piece of paper and a pencil. He drew what he remembered from what Luz had shown him. One he was finished he tapped the paper and it curled into a little ball of light.

“Alright!” He exclaimed. “Amity! Truth or dare?” He asked. “Truth?” Amity said, niether option was great considering they could both lead to her having to reveal her crush. “Okay, do you have a crush?” He asked.

Amity froze and felt a heat rush to her cheeks. ’It’s okay Amity! He just said a simple yes or no question.’ Luz and Willow both gave her a knowing smirk which did not help her blush. “Ummmm, yes, I do.”

Luz heard Amity calling her name. “Truth.” She replied calmly, but on the inside she was screaming. “Do YOU have a crush?” The witch asked. Luz, not trusting herself with spilling more than necessary she just nodded, although she wanted to know more about her crush’s crush to see if she had a chance.

“Amity.” Luz called out. Amity was caught off guard, but responded soon enough. “Truth.” Amity said. “Tell us one thing about your crush.” Luz said. Internally Amity was screaming. ’Okay, it’s fine, just tell her one thing about herself that won’t give it away.’ Amity thought for a second before saying that her crush was a girl.

Luz’s heart felt like it was beating out of her chest. ’Amity likes a girl… I’m a girl. No! No! That’s a silly thought! She could like Willow for Titan’s sake!’ “Now tell me one thing about your crush.” Amity said. “S-she’s also a g-girl.” Luz said.

Now it was Amity’s turn to have her heart beat out of her chest. Meanwhile, Willow and Gus just looked at each other. “Oh my Titan, finally.” The former whispered as she rolled her eyes.

“Okay, Amity, tell me one more thing about your crush.” Luz said. Amity took a deep breath reciting the words she was about to say. “S-s-she’s a… human.” There it was. It was out now.

After a moment the words that had just came out of her crush’s mouth finally registered in her head. “I-it’s… me?” Luz asked. Amity nodded.

Luz glupped, even though she knew her feelings were reciprocated she still felt a paradoxical fear. “Well… my crush has…” Luz took another deep breath. “Dyed green hair with auburn roots.” The human said in one breath.

Amity’s eyes went wide. She had expected one of thousands reactions, being kicked out, being let down slowly, the friendzone. The one thing she hadn’t thought of, the one thing that felt it was too improbable to even imagine it was a possibility, was her feelings to be reciprocated.

“R-really?” Amity asked. “Mhm!” Confirmed Luz. Amity jumped into her human’s arms and held her tight. She could feel her face flush and her ears start to twitch from happiness. Luz had her breath knocked out of her lungs but returned the hug quickly.

Amity pulled away just enough to look Luz in the eye. “Luz Noceda, will you go out with me?” Amity asked, already knowing the answer. “Yes! Oh my Titan, yes!” Luz exclaimed and both girls giggled. Amity had tried to pull away from Luz, but her girlfriend pulled her into a kiss.

Amity’s eyes widened for a brief second before they fluttered shut. She felt impossibly happy. Once they separated Willow loudly cleared her throat to remind them they weren’t the only two in the room. The human and witch in her lap looked to their sides and blushed profusely.

“S-sorry…” They said at the same. “My Titan took you two took long enough.” Eda suddenly chimed in. This took Luz by surprise, who nearly fell over if it weren’t for Amity catching her.

The human looked around. “Titan, did everyone know about me and Amity except us?” “Pretty much.” Willow, Gus, and Eda said in unison. “Well kids, dinner is ready, Come on Plant Girl and Goops, let’s give the lovebirds some space.” Eda said, causing Willow and Gus to try and styfle a laugh, which failed.

Once the 3 witches left Luz and Amity turned to look at each other again. The former tucked a loose strand of hair behind her witch’s ear before she cupped her cheek and rubbed Amity’s cheek with her thumb. The witch melted into the touch.

After a few minutes of sitting there Luz was starting to get hungry. “Hey, Amity?” Luz said. “Mhm?” Amity hummed. “I’m starting to get a little hungry, I’m gonna head down and eat with the others, you coming?” The human asked. “Yeah, I’ll be down in a second.” Amity said as she stood from Luz’s lap. Once Luz was also fully standing up she leaned in and quickly pressed her lips to Amity’s cheek before turning around and heading downstairs. Amity gently laid two of her fingers on the spot of her cheek that Luz had kissed. ’Her lips were so soft… wow.’

After a second for Amity to internally cheer at the recent events, the witch left her girlfriend’s room and walked down the stairs to the kitchen. She saw Luz blushing and Willow, Gus, and Eda laughing. She decided to join her girlfriend in their friend’s teasing.

When Eda spotted Amity walking into the kitchen she said, “Oh look! The other half is here!” Causing everyone to laugh and Luz and Amity to start blushing again. “Oh please Gus, you laugh as if you think I don’t see how you act around that Matt kid.” Now it was Gus’s turn to blush. This teasing back and forth went on for another 30 minutes or so before everyone was full and tired.

After a lot more teasing from Willow and Gus, Luz and Amity were able to have some alone time for the first time since officially getting together. A question had been eating away at Luz. “Hey, Amity?” She whispered so she didn’t wake the other two witches. “Yes, Luz?”

Realistically Luz knew that the answer shouldn’t matter but she couldn’t control it. “Do you… ugh how do I word this…” Luz trailed off to allow herself to think. “Do you want to keep us a secret? Because if you do that’s fine but-” Luz was cut off by Amity kissing her to ease her fears. “No. Titan no!” She whisper-yelled.

“I want the whole Isles that I am dating Luz Noceda. The prettiest, bravest, and most charismatic girl I’ve ever met.” Luz’s face flushed. “Oh please! You flatter me.” Luz replied. “Okay, first of all, of course I’m going to flatter my girlfriend. Second of all, you went up against the Titan damned Emperor and you won! And I would bet my parent’s entire life savings that you looked good doing it.” Amity replied matter-of-factly.

Then Amity heard sniffling and cupped her girlfriend’s cheeks and wiped the tears away. “Oh! S-sorry! I didn’t say anything wrong did I?” Amity asked. “No. Nonono.” Luz confirmed. “Sorry, i-it’s just… I never really had any friends before Willow, Gus. Let alone any of my crushes being reciprocated.” Amity was a little shocked by that, this Luz sounded nothing like the girl who had made friends and flipped the school against Boscha within her first 2 weeks.

Amity planted a kiss on Luz’s cheek. “Then screw them! They are missing out on this beautiful, amazing girl in front of me.” Amity countered. “Thanks, Amity.” Luz said. “That’s what girlfriends are for.” Amity responded. “Night, Luz.” “Goodnight, Amity.”

Before Amity fully closed her eyes a ding sound played and her scroll opened up. She quickly grabbed it to see what the notification was.

Ed: who’s getting those snails Amity

Em: may as well give them to me now Ed

Amity: Edric won your stupid little bet now let me sleep next to my
            girlfriend in peace

Ed: HA

Ed: sometimes it pays to have a little confidence in your siblings Em

To make sure they didn’t wake her she put the scroll on silent and poofed it into nothing for the night.
