Work Text:

~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~

Hayato walked out of the house, his steps sluggish and eyes lidded with sleep as he eased the door shut behind him, the crisp morning air hitting his face, a familiar sound of waves along with the smell of sea salt present in the air.

He threw his arms up in a stretch, cracking his aching back and neck to release the built up tention from his body, making him relax his shoulders sagging in relief.

He started to walk at a lazy pace, letting his arms swing about as he moved, slowly starting to wake up more.

The text izuku had sent last night had been vague, telling him to come by "their spot"— as the two friends had unintentionally dubbed it— as the greenette had something to show him.

So as the awesomest amd coolest friend he was, he'd agreed to waking up an hour earlier than he usually would. Thankfully, it was his off day, so he didn't need to head in to work, which in itself had been a blessing.

It took him about a minute or so to reach his destination, as he stood infront of the park beside his house.

It hadn't changed much in the years that had passed since he was a child, and it seemed as if time itself had frozen just to keep this place intact, and preserve all the happy memories he'd made here along with it.

It had the same red slide, the same sand box besidw it, the same smell, and the same gentleness. It seemed to be the only place in the world that brought him this much comfort, the only place beside in Izuku's arms..

He sighed, shaking his head, along with the thoughts plaguing his mind as he began climbing up the ladder, placing himself on top of the slide, his legs dangling in the air.

He winced when his elbow brushed against chipped paint, a white scratch line now adorning his skin, before he ebbed it away.

He leaned back, humming a soft tune while pulling his phone out, mindlessly scrolling through it while he waited for his friend to arrive.

It wasn't until he heard the soft shuffle of footsteps when he looked up, a soft smile gracing his lips at the sight before him.

"Hiya freckles.." he murmured, eyes softening with fondness as he stared at the messy mop of green curls.

Izuku looked gorgeous under the morning light, hayato noted. The viridian in his eyes sparkling vibrantly, reflecting almost every colour in the distance. His freckles had grown more prominent over the course of the month he'd spent here, his skin a light tan now instead of the rosy white it would usually be.

The greenette stood below him, his well loved guitar trapped between his arms —the guitar he'd borrowed a few days ago. Initially, hayato had been reluctant to hand it over, not wanting to spend more than a day without his precious baby —Yes, baby— but ultimately deciding to just fuck it, handing it over to the freckled man.

"Hello.." Izuku muttered back, giving a small awkward wave.

He then started forward, cradling the borrowed instrument with a gentleness of a mother carrying her baby, as he climbed up the ladder, plopping down beside hayato, their shoulders brushing..

Hayato made a mental note to marry someone who'd be this dedicated to taking care of his babies —preferably izuku— his heart thumping out of his chest when his eyes met izukus, the soft smile stretching across his lips making him light-headed.

"Sorry I woke you up so early" Izuku chuckled, the sound making hayato's eyes flicker up to meet his eyes again, his cheeks flushing when he realized belatedly that he'd been staring at the green-haired man's mouth.

"N-no worries..." he offered lamely, mustering a sheepish smile. "Whatcha' wanna show me?"

"Um.." Izuku smiled nervously, scratching the back off his neck. "Well I..." he trailed off, his cheeks growing pinker as he fiddled with the guitar in his arm, plucking a few strings,.

Hayato's eyes fell down to the instrument, watching izuku pinch at the chords at random for a moment, before his eyes surveyed over the object.

"Did you," started, then paused, looking over the instrument once more  "do something to it?" he pointed at it, raising a questioning brow his at the shorter male, eyes full of merth when he looked at the other. He could see the big green flower now stuck to the gradient blue metal, opposite to the sakura flower eri had stuck on it many years ago, but he pointedly ignored it, just for the sake of it.

Izuku on the other hand, blinked in confusion, looking down at the sticker and smiling.

"Oh yeah!" he grinned, looking up meet golden eyes. "Well, do you like it?" he asked, he nervous energy dissapting around them.

"It looks awsome!" Hayato nodded, reaching out to run the pad of his finger across it. It felt good quality too..

Izuku chuckled, watching the other admire  his work with the excitement of a little kid, his heart swelling with fondness.

"I drew it myself..." the greenette admitted, hand coming up to wrap around the hayato's wrist, making the other look up in surprise.

Izuku's eyes softened as he stared at hayato, and he shifted their hands so they were resting on his lap, his lacing his fingers other.

Hayato felt his face burn and he managed to pull a croaked smile across his lips. "I could tell.."

Izuku blinked in surprise, his lower trembling with the effort ot took to not  burst out laughing as pulled his hands up to his chest, giving a scandalized look.

"Oh, so you're saying my art is trash?" He accused, immediately cracking up when he looked at hayato's stupid face.

He too felt his lip quiver, and soon they were both cracking up, doubling over as their sounds echoed in the empty park.

They laughed, and laughed and laughed until their stomaches hurt, tears streaming down their red faces, their voices echoing through the small playground, too loud for this early in the morning.

Hayato downed a few gulps of water from the bottle he'd brought, before tossing it to a still panting izuku, who offered him a smile before pressing his lips against the plastic rim —where hayato's own had just been— as he took a swig

"God..." Izuku chuckled breathly, wiping his mouth against his sleeve, This other arm balancing the guitar still in his lap.

The blue haired man hummed in agreement his face set in a permanent smile.

"So...this all you wanted me to see? You could've waited till a little later, y'know?" he teased, poking izuku's bicep.

The other Laughed heartedly at that, waving a hand in the air. "Nah, not really. I have something else to show actually." he grinned, his eyes twinkling with merth.

"You do?" Hayato asked, his eyebrows shooting up into his hair.

"Yup!' Izuku nodded, popping the 'P' and hayato noticed when the air shifted completely between them, the greenette taking a deep, calming breath, his eyes shimmering with something akin to teasing

He leaned back against the metal of the slide, tucking one leg underneath him and the other dangling off the side.

Hayato watched with interest as izuku shifted to face him, the knee of his folded leg resting atop of his thigh now, the contact sending a shiver up the light haired man's spine.

Izuku gave the other one last look, his chest rising and falling in a deep breath as he adjusted the guitar in his lap, his fingers resting expertly against the neck and strings of the instrument.

Hayato's breath halted in his chest as izuku started to strum a light melody. And when izuku looked up at him through his lashes, his mouth curved upwards in a shy smile, cheeks tinted with a bright shade of red, hayato knew —even before his lips parted to form words— that there no other creature within and outside this universe that was as gorgeous as izuku midoriya was.

We drive through the woods, rich neighborhoods to watch..

Izuku straightened up, his eyes shinning like emerald as the sun ascend above them. He flashed hayato a warm smile, sending his poor heart into a frenzy, his eyes trained on Izuku's face, on his plush, pink lips as they they moved and curved around each word of a song he'd never heard.

We joked as we looked, that they were too good for us..

Izuku strumened a few more chords, the sound echoing through the blissfully silent morning and he raised a hand, continuing to sing as he poked the taller in chest, before his hands immediately fell back against the chords.

'Cause socially speaking, we were the same

His eyes softened, voice lowering when he spoke the next few words.

with runaway fathers and mothers whe drank.

Hayato's breath hitched in his chest, his eyebrows furrowing, watching the other continue.

A tale old as time, young love don't last for life.

Izuku stopped for a moment, out breath and of inhaling deeply. He reached out with one hand, trailing the pads of his fingers along the taller male's arm sending shivers down his spine.

And now I know, now I Κnow

It's time to go, it's time to to go home

Their eyes met again, viridian ones half-lidded with utter fondness.

We've traveled the seas, we've ridden the stars

We've seen everything from saturn to Mars

As much as it seems like you own my heart

It's astronomy, we're two worlds apart.

Izuku leaned back against the painted metal of the swing, his strumming hand back on the heap of metal, his movements precise and flowed, as if he were a professinal.

(It's astronomy) were two worlds apart.

Well shit, If he was in love before, he was utterly and absolutely infatuated with the man before him now.

From far away, I wish I'd stayed with you.

Izuku averted his gaze, an almost solemn look on his face. Hayato swallowed hard. What was he gonna...

But here, face to face, a stranger that I once knew

Oh...

The bluenette's own face fell, and he looked away.

I thought if I wandered, I'd fall back in love

His mind buffered, 'back in love'??

Izuku lifted his right hand again, eyes once more locked with hayato's.

You said, "Distance brings fondness", but guess not with us.

He made air quotes, offering the pale haired man a small smile.

The only mistake that we didn't make was run (Now look we've done)

[Yeah, cause we didn't get a chance too] he thought bitterly. Fuck you, chisaki kai.

The greenette continued to sing what he assumed was the chrous, and hayato gave himself a moment to appreciate now amazing the other sounded. It wasn't like izuku was an impecable singer, he was average at best, voice cracking on a few of the highnotes, but the sound of his voice was like music to his ears. And the way his hand moved across the instrument, dancing along the chords. God, he was so good with his fingers...

Hayato just stopped himself from jumping out of his skin when izuku suddenly grabbed his hand, pressing it roughly against his own chest, his fingers picking faster at the guitar strings, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.

Stop trying to keep us alive.

You're pointing at stars in the sky that already died

Hayato swallowed thickly, heart almost leaping out of his chest, "wha-"

Izuku grabbed his face roughly, and he yelped as his was dragged closer towards the shorter male.

Stop trying to keep us alive

You can't force the stars to align when

they've already died

He winced when he was abruptly let go and pushed back, the freckled man's head now tilted back, eyebrows creasing and eyes fluttered closed —focused on his vocals.

Oh, we've died, ooh-oh-oh

Oh, we've traveled the seas, we've ridden the stars

We've seen everything from saturn to Mars As much as it seems like you own my heart

It's astronomy, we're two worlds apart

Alas, he plucked the last few chords before his shoulders sagged, taking in a deep inhale and exhaling it just as slowly.

The gradient blue guitar now sat idley in the freckled mans lap, while said person caught their breath, his cheeks going a cherry red when he looked up at his friend through his lashes, the adrenaline that had been coursing through his veins dying down, along with his confidence.

Hagato just stared at him, his jaw slack, completely dumbfounded.

What the fuck...?

"I learned the basics a few years after we," Izuku paused, biting his lip, "drifted apart...?"

Pfftdrifted? more like ripped away from eachother. Hayato had to resist the urge to roll his eyes, but thankfully the other continued to fill the silence.

"I missed you alot," the greenette confessed, averting his gaze, fiddling with fingers, "And I thought I'd surprise you the next time we met..."

Hayato's chest fluttered at that, his own cheeks flushing aswell. He opened his mouth to speak, but izuku beat him to it.

"Hayato, I-" he swallowed, looking up to meet golden eyes.

Said man stiftened when izuku took his hands in his, squeezing them.

"Thank you." Hayato blurted out before The could strop himself, all his usual playfuliness and cconfidence aving been stripped away.

Izuku flashed him a blinding smile at that, and the other had to look away, forcing himself not to do something stupid.

Izuku took his moment of weakness as an opportunity, reachings up to cup the nape of his neck with a hand, gentle fingers threading through the baby hairs there, making hayato shiver.

Hayato felt tears sting at the corners of his eyes, lower lip wobbling as a thumb smoothed over it.

"Let me be yours, 'zuku." hayato croaked out and god did he sound wrecked. And judging by the sad expression on Izuku's face, he was probably crying, though he couldn't feel the tears at all.

The bluenette reached forward, wrapping izuku in a bone-crushing hug, burying his face in the crook of his neck.

"Please..." he begged, the sound a ragged rasp from the back of throot. "I-i'll be good. I'll give give you e-everything you want, Anything" he mumbled, fingers twisting in the fabric of his shirt.

Hayato tensed when he felt hands trying to push him away, prying him off the other body.

He whimpered in protest, eyes leaking even more tears when they met ones wet viridian ones, the ones he'd grown fond of all those years ago.

"Please..." he pleaded, voice even weaker now as hands gripped the others shoulders so hard it hurt.

"Shut up." Izuku snapped and hayato finched back against the slide they were still sitting on top of.

"Don't you dare say that." Izuku gritted his teeth, grabbing the collar of hayato's shirt and dragging him back close again, his own face wet with tears.

Hayato hiccupped, feeling like shit for making izuku cry. Leave it to him to hurt the other every single time. Stupid

"I-' Izuku started lamely, his momentary confidence and anger dying down, eyes flicking down to stare at the tremble of hayato's lips as the man tried to hold back his years worth of sobs.

He brushed a thumb over them, pressing down a bit when that didn't work.

"Haya.." he murmured, vividiant orbs trailing up to meet honey ones. "Yes." he whispered, leaning in to close the distance between them.

Hayato stilled for just a fraction too long, making izuku almost pull back with an apology already on his tongue, but he was faster in dragging the freckled man back up against him with an arm around this waist, letting those soft, soft lips meet his once more.

Hayato sighed against izuku's mouth, leaning back against the painted metal of the slide, his head tilting to the side as their mouths slotted together, like two pieces of a puzzle, almost as if they were made for each other.

~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~

Hayato's heart was threatening to beat out of his chest, the smile being directed towards him so sweet, those green eyes shining like emeralds under the morning light.

Apparently, after their unnecessarily long make-out session —even though he would argue it wasn't nearly long enough— Izuku had decided to drag him towards ocean.

They were currently running across the sand, the green haired man dragging him along by the hand, laughing, and giggling and pointing out every interesting shell.

And if he knew, deep down, at the back of his mind, that izuku would be gone today before the sun even set, and that maybe, just maybe, there was be a chance of them becoming strangers again, then he didn't mention it.

Instead just raising their intertwined hands, making Izuku stop in his tracks, when he kissed the back of his hand.

"I love you, freckles." he whispered, tugging the other man close.

Izuku beamed, his heart melting at the words, his eyes softening as he spoke.

"I love you too, haya."
