Chapter Text
Dr. Gregory House locked his blue eyes onto her, anxiously waiting for her response. An answer that could instantly change the rest of his life. What would she say? With a single glance, he tried to figure out if she was for or against him. How would she answer? The power was entirely in her hands. Until she finally prepared to speak, time stood completely still for him. House felt a sensation as if something was tightening around his throat. Though, he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was. Was it the sheer uncertainty of what was about to happen? It was very possible.
Their eyes met. His, and Dr. Lisa Cuddy’s.
Once their gazes locked, she swallowed hard. She was torn on what to do. Should she lie, or would it be better to tell the truth? To a certain extent, she felt sorry for him, but at the same time, she was furious. Furious at what he had done. He had actually shoved a thermometer up a patient's rectum - a patient who also happened to be a cop, and just "forgotten" about him! When that officer had shown up in her office, House was supposed to apologize. But he had stubbornly refused. This ultimately led to House being charged with illegal procurement of a controlled substance, drug possession, and being under the influence while on the job. Now, here they were, sitting in the middle of a hearing where House’s entire future was on the line.
Cuddy had to make a choice. What mattered more to her? The pristine reputation of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, or her best doctor, the Chief of Diagnostic Medicine?
