Chapter Text
It was his first day back at his job after a long hiatus but Sky didn't seem excited or nervous at all. He was too experienced to feel any of those, yes, it had been some time but this job felt like an everyday thing to him. Plus it was a bit refreshing if he had to admit, he missed this feeling, doing something usual and feeling like everything turned back to it's rhytm, his life was all about the same routine again. When his first shift was about to end they've got a call and in a minute, his all crew was on the fire-truck with him. A lot of his friends thought his job was so cool and heroic but it wasn't like that for him. During the most important years of his life, where he had to choose a path to follow, he wanted to try being a fire-man after watching a movie. But he never told anyone the real story, his friends would bully the shit out of him if they knew because in their eyes Sky was always so cool and it wasn't so surprising when he chose a different path than his friends. It was just their cool friend doing cool shit, they even made fun of him about always trying to be cool but Sky just laughed it off.The movie left a big impact on him because during those years he had been feeling a little blue, more than usual. That movie shifted something inside him, like if he choose a job where he could actually feel useful, actually saving someone, for real; he could finally put his head on his pillow at night and feel less blue. That was why he gave it a try.
It turned out that he was perfect for the job; both physically and emotionally.
Even though his friends found it so cool, most of the time it was an empty field or a wreck getting set on fire by some kids, and cats on the zero cat requiring places; Sky's favorite ones were cats for sure. Even though he had been to some buildings with people in it, till now there were no case that they couldn't evacuate someone in time, thankfully. So when they stood in front of the old hotel building, Sky didn't feel a shifting in his stomach like he used to feel during his first years. He looked around and saw the people running around, probably the visitiors and staff since they all seemed shaken up and talking the each other in a tone Sky was used to hear. The hotel seemed empty already but still they needed to check it out, after they were done here the crew was going to eat at Sky's favorite place to celebrate his turn. Half of them were checking the rooms to be sure and others were putting the fire on control.
"Second floor is clear." He heard it and was about to answer it.
"Third floor is also--" he stopped as his eye caught something. He thought he saw something beside the bed but the smoke was too much, so he had to walk in to make sure.
"There is a guy---third floor. Need an ambulance." He quickly informed his crew through his earphones.
Actually Sky was expecting to find someone who was late to realize there was a fire and lost consciousness because of the smoke. But this guy was laying on the floor with a whiskey bottle beside him, didn't really seem like he had fall there. Sky swore inside his mask as he saw the guy's slit open wrist, quickly wrapping it with the headband in his pocket. He was still breathing, at least he had a chance. But this was new for him. He never saw a coincidence like this before cause it seemed like this person was about to kill himself before the building got on fire.
"Shit, shit." He kept mumbling, carrying the guy on his back as he ran downstairs. He was acting extra panicked because there were too much blood, making him think even seconds could matter.
The ambulance was there and the medic quickly took the guy from his back, moving so fast as Sky told them about the cut.
"Dude, what the hell..." Fourth mumbled, he was also surprised that they found someone in the middle of a fire with open wrist. "--Here, it was in his room." He handed an Iphone to Sky as he kept talking. "We think it started from the kitchen, Ohm said it seems like an accident coming from someone who didn't know how to use the professional equipment. They are making a detailed check to find some evidence with the cops--Nobody is harmed except your guy. Two kids are getting checked out because they seem a little pale from the smoke." He informed Sky as the guy kept nodding and taking a look at the phone.
Sky's mask was under his chin when he showed the screen to Fourth.
"He called someone for 34 times? Damn!" Fourth was also surprised at this. "So are you telling me--"
"Guys!" Ohm ran towards the fire-truck after seeing the two leaning against it. "Okay first of all, I was just curious Chief." He said as he looked at Sky, like he could get mad at him for what he was about to say.
"I got curious okay, you know it's all first for us and the guy--"
"Just say it." Fourth gave him a tired look, it was Ohm after all, he always got curious for some reason.
"Okay, I took a look at his room before the police came and look at this." He opened his palm to show them the silver ring he found.
"This makes it even clear. He had broken heart." Fourth puckered his lips, seeming upset by connecting the dots. "I can't believe I'm saying this but it's good that a fire began." He mumbled, realizing the guy would've been gone if there was no fire and no call for them.
"You will get us into trouble, Ohm." Sky said as he took the ring, not wanting him to get into trouble for sure. He was the chief of the crew and he carried the guy out, so he could give the ring to the police if they asked for it.
He slipped it inside his pocket as Fourth began telling Ohm about the calls the guy was giving to someone.
"Maybe she didn't respond because his number is saved." Ohm said, raising his eyebrows at Sky and causing him to sigh.
Sky copied the number which was saved as ''my love'' in his phone and called it. After all it was the last number this guy called.
"Maybe it was just a simple fight, she needs to know what happened." Ohm agreed as he saw what Sky was about to do.
"If you are using other's phones to call me I swear--" An angry woman answered the phone and three guys looked at each other.
"Hello, my name is Sky. I got your number from someone who called you 34 times tonight." He tried to make a soft start.
"What---What happened to him?"
"He is fine, there was a fire at the hotel he was staying at and I'm the fire-man who rescued him. You don't have to worry, he is doing good. I can give you the name of the hospital they took--"
"What the fuck?" Ohm yelled angrily when the woman hung up on them.
"A bitch, for sure." Fourth shook his head, not surprised to see this act since the woman already had a chance to worry about the 34 calls. That wasn't a normal number and anyone would've got worried about it.
"Definitely a bitch." Sky sighed as he looked at other contacts to find his family members and call them instead.
"Such a pity." Ohm said. "They always love the bitchy ones." He kept mumbling about it as he got on the truck.

Sky was sitting on the black couch and eating his sandwich when a furious guy barged inside the station.
"Where is he?!"
"Can you please calm down?---" Ohm tried to push the guy out and turned at Sky. "It's not important Chief, it's okay."
He grabbed the guy's arm who seemed very thin but acted pretty wild for his looking.
Sky was trying to understand what was happening as he put his sandwich down and stood up, cause the guy kept fighting against Ohm and didn't seem like he was going to leave.
"Where is he?! Stop fucking touching me!" He screamed at Ohm and pushed him away, making Ohm sigh and rub his face like he didn't know what to do.
"I think you are looking for me." Sky said when he saw the bandage on the guy's wrist during their fight with Ohm. This must be the guy from the hotel.
"Finally! My fucking hero!" He yelled and others looked at Sky, not realizing what was happening at all.
When the guy walked closer to Sky they all wanted to make a move but Sky quickly made a hand gesture to tell them to stop.
"It was all done! Do you know how long it took to feel brave enough to do it?!" The thin and very angry guy they didn't know or understand at all, approached to their Chief and grabbed his collar.
The scene was really absurd cause Sky was taller and obviously stronger than him but he still got balls to grab him.
"Wait-- Are you the guy he saved? Why are you yelling at him because he saved you?" Fourth finally understood the situation and seemed puzzled.
"Surprise!" The light-brown haired guy turned at Fourth without letting Sky's uniform's collar. "Not everyone wants to live!" He literally screamed at Fourth's face before turning back at Sky. "I came here to tell you that you didn't do a good thing with saving me! You left me no choice but live!" He pushed Sky with all his strength and it alarmed Ohm, cause he knew Sky wasn't full of patience.
"Chief--" He tried to intervene.
"Ah, such a pity." Sky put his hands in his pockets, not letting Ohm talk but looking directly at the angry guy.
"His lover dumped him, such a big deal. People comes and goes, you better grow up." He said looking into the other guy's eyes and the whole room got dead silent.
"Oh my--" Fourth broke the silence when the thin one punched Sky in the face and got them all shocked.
"Dad!" The whole room went into chaos as Ohm tried to pull the guy outside before Sky could act and suddenly a little girl ran inside.
"Why did you do that?!" She hit the stranger's leg before Fourth could pull her back. "Go away!" She said to the guy who seemed surprised as Ohm dragged him outside. But it didn't really matter at the moment.
Sky couldn't even see the guy after the punch, he was a hot-headed person for sure but not an asshole who would punch back at a guy who tried to kill himself. No, that wasn't him. So he pulled his girl on his lap and told her a pinky story about the angry guy; where he wasn't someone who slit his wrist open.
"Dude, everyone is going crazy lately." Fourth said as others finally walked away from the scene and Sky could only shake his head. He didn't mean to get punched, he was just mad at the guy because he didn't want to live and wasn't thankful for a second chance. But it all went wrong for sure.
When he went to the bathroom to check his face, he noticed the ring was still in the pocket of his uniform.
But it didn't matter anymore, the guy wouldn't show up again for sure, he thought.

"Dad?"
Sky was about to sleep when he heard May's mumble. He turned around to see her standing on the doorway with a pout on her little face.
"It's okay." He quickly said and smiled. "Come here." He opened his arms in the bed and saw how close she was to begin crying even though she seemed so sleepy.
"It's okay." He repeated as the girl got on bed and hugged him tight.
"I know all the lights are on but...--I am sorry." She said and Sky just sighed, not saying anything.
He closed his eyes again and stroked her back softly.
Actually seeing May like this was too difficult for Sky because she used to be so different. She was a strong girl for sure but the things she experienced messed her up and now Sky just wanted her to stop seeing awful nightmares and get her self-confidence again.
The next day they didn't talk much during breakfast but Sky knew she was upset. He loved her more than anything, she was the reason why she came back to this city and was trying to make things better for them. But he wasn't good at showing his love, that was why the moments they spent together were not so loud. May was getting more and more quiet every day and Sky didn't know how to fix it.
"I am so bored." She whined as Sky pulled her inside the waiting room again.
"I'm looking for a babysitter, I'm sure I will find one soon, alright?" He said and she nodded, but he knew May didn't want a babysitter, May wanted her mother; a part of her wanted the woman so bad while the other part was scared of her.
"What are you doing here--?"
"I tried to tell him, Chief--But--"
"I'm sorry." The guy who punched him yesterday was back and today he had some pink color between his light brown hair, which caused all the crew stare at him.
"What?" Sky asked with a confused face and saw the guy rolling his eyes, not seeming sorry at all.
"Not to you." He walked towards the little girl and crouched down. "I didn't want to scare you." He smiled at her and everyone was looking at each other with large question marks above their heads. Cause the guy who cause a dramatic scene yesterday was right there, talking softly to a child like it wasn't him who punched the shit out of Sky.
"Here, please accept this na~" He talked in a really soft tone despite the way he screamed to them yesterday. Then they all watched him handing her a shiny gift package. "I'm sorry." He repeated and nobody knew what to do, Ohm could only mouth 'I don't know' towards Sky when he looked at him with a questioning face.
On the other hand May was staring at the gift for a while before lifting her head to see her father's approval. Sky softly nodded and she put the gift on her lap.
"Your hair color is the same with my mother." She suddenly said, seeming a bit shy as she smiled while looking down.
"Really? I guess that's why everyone is looking at me." The guy said the last sentence a bit sarcastic and turned to glare at others, causing them all to go back to their business.
Sky and Ohm looked at each other, the guy was something for sure.
"Thank you." May said as she opened the gift and Sky was surprised to see a lovely snow globe. It was such a cute gift for someone who was pretty aggressive like him.
Sky was still eyeing him suspiciously when the guy smiled at May.
"May---let me see your gift. It looks so cute." Ohm distracted her softly and pulled her to the other side fo the room, wanting the other two to talk before another scene would accure.
"I guess you are not here to say sorry to me." Sky said.
"I will keep hating you because of what you did." He said in a serious tone without any doubt and Sky sighed before shaking his head.
"What?" The guy glared at him. "Is it to weird for you to hear someone wanting to die?" He took few steps closer to the fire-man, not wanting the girl to hear his words. "Some people don't have a nice job like yours, a great family and a cute daughter." He hissed at the bigger guy. "Fuck you." He mumbled before trying to walk away but Sky grabbed his arm and didn't let him.
Ohm was throwing some worried glances across the room but Sky knew this guy needed a lesson.
"Did you want to leave everything behind and have a sweet life with your loved one?" He asked in a calm and low tone as the other guy kept glaring at him, he was thinner and weaker for sure but he did not seem scared, not even a little bit. Sky already realized this guy wasn't a scared cat, it was obvious since he had bandage over his wrist and had no worry to step inside a station with some shiny pink hair on his head.
"I wanted that too, do you want to know how it ended? With realizing my wife was abusing my daughter and finding her staying locked inside the bathroom for a day." Sky could see the shift through the guy's looks. "If you think that living is to easy for everyone, think again." He let his arm go as he continued. "You should throw this away instead of coming here and punching me." He pulled the silver ring out of his pocket and grabbed the guy's wounded wrist on purpose, placing it inside his palm. "You don't seem like a person who gives up so fast, just stop pitying yourself." He said and saw the other staring at the ring for a moment.
He finally raised his head and looked back at Sky.
"Why didn't you throw it away?" He asked.
"Because you should do it yourself." Sky said before turning his back at him and hoping the guy would get what he meant.
"It's not that easy!"
But he obviously did not get it.
"Some people are not that strong!" The guy yelled without caring and Sky sighed again, walking closer to him again since he did not want anyone else to hear what he was about to say.
"Believe me, I was thinking the same thing when I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and was so ready to slit my wrist open." He whispered and the guy seemed listening very carefully.
"Dad! Look! It's so pretty!" May called him as she showed her new toy with a smile.
"But I decided to live for this voice." He pointed at his daughter with his head, looking at the guy.
"Finding something to live for is easier than finding a reason to die." he said and walked away this time, feeling a bit weird since he never talked about those stuff to anyone. Sky was a private person and everyone around him was used to that, he never liked to share private things or his deep thoughts. But it felt good to tell these stuff to a stranger.
Actually he wondered why the pink haired guy wanted to die this bad because he obviously seemed like he was doing well. Looking at the way he yelled at the men around there, he wasn't a scared and quiet type for sure. His clothing was also showing he had some money, so what was the problem? Just a girl not wanting him? Sky would laugh his ass off to that.
After about an hour he grabbed his coffee and walked outside, pausing for a moment when he saw the angry guy sitting on the stairs.
Sky looked at him from a distance and saw the other playing with the ring in his hand while looking at his phone.
Sky knew that feeling, he was dying to call his lover and Sky was one of the people who could understand him.Because when his wife disappeared for days, the only thing he could do was call her non-stop, hoping she would answer.
When the guy put his phone in his pocket and threw the ring away with a loud sigh, Sky smiled.
He seemed wild but he wasn't an idiot, he was obviously thinking about the talk between him and Sky.
Sky had been thinking about it too.
"Did they tell you that I carried you on my back till the ambulance?" He said, walking closer to the guy on the stairs and seeing him smile for the first time.
"I won't get a thank you from you, right? For saving your life?" He asked, sitting right beside him.
"Never." The guy said and Sky smiled, handing him his coffee. He watched him taking a deep breathe before grabbing the mug and holding it gently with both of his hands like he really needed it.
"I called her after I get you to ambulance, she didn't even ask how you were." Sky said after few minutes of silence and the guy handed him the mug back. "She doesn't sound like a person you should die for." He said, taking the mug back and drinking some.
The other guy seemed very calm as he shook his head.
"I didn't try to kill myself for her, it was about me." He said and Sky paused at that, seeming a bit surprised at his words cause this was the exact sentence he gave to his bestfriend Ing when he forced him to talk about his feelings.
He was the only person who knew about the details of Sky's life.
"Sky." He said and offered a hand shake. "You can start with stop talking about her and telling me your name." He raised his eyebrows and saw the other smiling and tilting his head.
"Sounds fair." The pink haired guy said and shook his hand. "Nani."
Sky chuckled when he heard his name and Nani furrowed his eyebrows.
"What?" He looked at him and Sky just shook his hand on air.
"You seem so furious and all but your name turns out to be Nani. That is actually the cutest name I've ever heard." He chuckled again, handing him the mug back.
"You wanna hear something cuter?" Nani took the mug and paused for another sip. "I actually punched you in the face because you seemed really strong and I wanted you to beat the shit out of me." He smiled but saw the way Sky didn't seem surprised at all.
"Well, I know. I did the same thing to my friend but he actually beat the shit out of me." Sky chuckled again and he felt good to be able to talk about this stuff, he liked the fact that he could change someone's idea about this because he had been there. He needed to hear those words too.
"This is the part you will say I need help, right? That I'm sick?" Nani asked after few minutes of silence and sharing the coffee.
But Sky shook his head no.
"I don't think I will say those." He looked at Nani and saw him smiling. Honestly, Sky could say that he seemed pretty nice and happy; he had his colorful clothes, pink hair and that pretty smile on his face, others would definitely see him as a happy guy. Just like how Nani assumed Sky's life was perfect.
"Because of you they learnt that I tried to end it and--" Nani showed him his buzzing phone. "--This happens, every damn hour." He said, rolling his eyes and before Sky could ask what he meant, the guy answered the face-time.
"Like I said an hour ago--I'm fine, phi." He glared at the camera and Sky was about to laugh at that, but Nani turned the screen to him all of sudden.
"See this? I found the fire-man who saved me cause I wanted to thank him." He lied as he showed Sky to his sister. "--Because I am okay." He turned it back to himself and Sky kept chuckling as he heard their talk. Actually he was surprised at the fact that someone like Nani wanted to kill himself because obviously there were some people who cared about him deeply. It seemed like he had a lot of things and didn't really care about yelling in a crowd or punching a bigger guy. He seemed pretty brave, Sky already knew the ones who had bandages around their bodies were stronger than others anyway, but he was kind of surprised to see this guy's behaviour.
"No, he is not coming to dinner---I will call you later." Nani glared at the phone before ending the call.
"Actually it sounds like a good idea. you can treat me a dinner." Sky said with an annoying smile on his face.
"I don't think I can handle with one more person trying to convince me to not hurt myself again. My sister and bestfriend is already more than enough, thanks." Nani said with a tired face.
"I don't think you will hurt yourself again." Sky suddenly said and Nani looked at him, seemed like he didn't expect hearing something like that.
"I think sometimes getting too upset can make us do the things we wouldn't do in normal circumstances." Sky continued. "So, I feel like you won't do it again."
Nani showed him a sad smile and was about to say something when his phone began ringing again.
"I am still alive, Gemini---I swear if you call me again--" He started getting mad at someone when May walked outside.
"Dad, dad!" She ran towards his side, holding her new toy.
"Look at this! So beautiful!" She sat right between them and showed him the small couple inside the globe as she made it snow. "There are people inside!" She said and Sky nodded, taking a look at the globe like she wanted.
"If I knew you would like it this much, I would have buy a bigger one." Nani said and Sky noticed the call was ended quickly like the other.
"There are bigger ones?" May looked at Nani with big eyes and Nani chuckled.
"Of course, I have a lot of them." He said and the girl turned at him.
"But why?" She asked.
"That's a good question." He leaned his head down to look at her closer. "When I was a kid I heard a story about them." He took the toy from Sky's lap. "It said whenever you feel sad, you have to do this." He turned it over to make it snow. "--and remember that you can start over tomorrow." He said and Sky watched May listening to him carefully.
"Oh---" She seemed like she was thinking about it. "--I like that." She smiled and saw her father taking the toy back.
"I would say--it shows you that everything will pass after the storm and it will get peaceful again." He said after showing her how calm it got.
"I don't like your father." Nani said while grimacing and May chuckled at that.
"Maybe it's calm before the storm, you never know it." Nani added as he looked at Sky and Sky was about to ask his age since he chose some wise words. But Nani's phone didn't allow him.
"I have to go now." Nani said as he took a look at his phone. "Thanks for the coffee." He said and Sky smiled at that; he was thanking for the coffee but not for saving him.
"You are welcome." Sky said and stood up like him, offering another hand shake. "Good luck." He added and Nani shook his hand with a mumbled thanks. "But I'm not a lucky guy." He said as he pulled his hand away and was about to walk away since his family wasn't leaving him alone, everyone was too worried when he wasn't around.
"Angry Phi!" The girl yelled and Nani looked back with a smile, that was cute for sure.
"Will you come again?" She asked and Nani looked at Sky for a second, then opened his arms.
"Who knows?" He winked at the girl before waving and walking away.
"He is funny." May said to Sky. "I like him." She said and Sky smiled, ruffling her hair before taking her inside again.
He noticed how talkative she was with that guy, maybe it was a good sign, maybe she could feel better with spending time with others, Sky noted that. Also thinking the chapter with the angry guy was closed. Actually Sky was curious about him since the guy was so unpredictable, he tried to kill himself and then got angry at the fire-man who saved him, came there to punch him then felt bad for his daughter and bought her a cute gift? That was all something. But he thought asking more stuff could be disturbing so he just let the guy go. Thinking they would never see each other again.
