"Wake up"
In an instant it obeyed into consciousness to the sensation of suffocation and fear. A mangled sound attempted to escape from it's throat only to be cut off by sludge filling it maw. The creature began to thrash around in the sludge as it coughed out the thick substance.
As it's head broke free from the goop it splatted on the floor and it's eyes opened. It's head still felt heavy. As if it's mind had been churned to goop and an unpleasant buzzing filled it's thoughts.
The room was dim with smooth walls, in each corner of the pentagonal room was a pale tan pillar in swirling patterns. It sat up in a tub of goop which covered it's legs, which it swung over the side in order to stand. Across him was an archway, which while it appeared something should open up there was a smooth wall like the rest of the room.
"Grab the slate."
It obeyed the voices instructions, and began to look for a 'slate,' though it wasn't sure what that was. It located a pedestal and walked to it, legs feeling wrong unstable. Upon it's gaze, the pedestal clicked awake, as something on it rotated and sprung around. It grabbed the item, and it lifted the slate off as the smooth section of wall decided to open up and fuse to the walls flanking it from behind.
In the next room was a few boxes and barrels, looking rotted from… something, along with two somethings, of weird shape. A box with a curved part on the top, and a seam between the two. After prying it open failed, it crouched down to examine it more closely and took the lock in it's hand. The lock bubbled under it's touch, and melted through it's fingers. It opened the box, and inside was cloth, similar to the one wrapped around it's waist, as a dull thought of 'when did that get there' poked through the fuzziness before fading as quickly as it came. The soft fabric brushed against it's fingers. It put it on, before it decided to give out, just as the lock did, tattering over the rugged skin, scar? Neither of those where the right words. As it pondered on what it was, the question faded back into the fuzziness until it was left to ponder what had it been pondering.
It walked into the room unsteady, on the floor a pool of some clear liquid— water, it's mind supplied, before the impression of a word left it behind— a few paces forward, and as it's foot meet the water with a quiet splash, it's muddied by a darkness ebbing into it, and as darkness seeps into the water, a thought notion came with it: regret, or perhaps guilt? It didn't like the muddled water that only became such when his foot touched it— his foot.
It was hard to see in the dim light, but as it squinted it saw how one foot was darker, yet strangely it illuminated? Like a fish that glowed in dark crevice where the light didn't reach, yet when you looked at the glow directly it faded to match the rest of the dark, and leaves the question if it ever glowed at all, or if it was just a hallucination, like a memory that was there but… was it really? As it focused on the patterns, they melded into the darkness, as the buzzing returned to the forefront of his mind, and thought faded.
It continued walking, every other step tainting the water more, and clung onto the wall, pushing itself up, as it's eyes peaked over the wall, it saw a bright illuminating light, burning it's eyes, eye? It couldn't tell, but a part of it yearned to be in the light, urging it faster, as it's legs joined him up, and he started running, a delighted sound tearing through his throat.
He could see the light outside, bright, brilliant, green meeting his eyes, shining like the infinite horizon, bare feet slapping against the floor as the buzzing in his mind dulled- he belonged out there.
It was bright against eyes that spent much too long drenched in shadow… but he didn't care, as he met the threshold, feeling soft wind blowing against him as he stepped into the sun which met him with— pain.
As it's body met the sunlight, an all consuming agony flooded it, whiting out any thoughts and it reeled back into the shadow, like a wounded animal.
The buzzing returned smugly as it seemed to taunt it, and it fell back into unconsciousness.
