Aren't you grateful?

Summary:

Kaphrao decides to be more daring after their sweet day at the water park, remembering the way drunk Fai had kissed her.

A different take on the end of episode 5 of The Fire, if Fai and Kaphrao had taken things further than just a smile.

Notes:

Another fic of FaiKaphrao because I can't have enough of them and the wait for the next episode is going to be long.

I love this show so much.

Chapter Text

Fai and Kaphrao walked at a leisurely pace, a few feet apart, up to Kaphrao's house. Fai stayed behind the wooden fence, hands behind her back.

"Thank you for taking me out today." Said Kaphrao with a smile.

Fai nodded, pursing her lips. Kaphrao watched her attentively; the wild hairs escaping her ponytail, the jean jacket hugging her frame handsomely, her soft cheeks and her innocent-looking eyes. Her heart skipped a beat.

"If you're grateful then you should thank me properly." Fai smirked. "You should list all the things I've done for you so you don't forget them."

Kaphrao narrowed her eyes, though there was no real bite when she spoke. "Did you do this expecting to get something in return? Or to hang it over my head later?"

Fai rolled her eyes and dropped her hands on the fence. "You always think badly of me. I just want you to see that I can be nice too."

She bit her tongue. "I don't think badly of you."

"Then smile a bit."

"What for?"

Fai pouted, almost taking Kaphrao's breath away. "Please? Just to end the day on a happy note. Like this." She bent down and smiled brightly, head turned to the side like a puppy.

Kaphrao then smiled too, eyes closed, cheeks tight and nose scrunched cutely, trying to convey all the happiness this day had brought her.

"Happy now?"

Fai nodded, still not letting go of the fence. Her smile was bright and genuine, something Kaphrao had barely seen before that day. Crickets made a comforting tune around, the moon shining down on Fai's sharp features.

Kaphrao made a last-minute decision then, getting closer to Fai and kissing her cheek. "Thank you." She whispered.

She didn't really step away, only a few inches apart from Fai's face, enough to stare at her from up close and feel her breathing on her skin. She relished on Fai's dumbfounded face. Blinking eyes and stuttering mouth a reward far better than anything else she could've asked for.

She brushed Fai's nose with hers, a slow movement as she observed Fai, the way her eyes roamed down, half-lidded.

"Phrao." Fai breathed.

That was all it took. She lay her lips on Fai's, hearing the subtle hitch of breath from her, and started moving. A hand cupped the side of her neck, thumb on her jaw and close to her mouth as they deepened the kiss. Soft lips, warm breath and sweet nothings whispered between small bites. Kaphrao felt dizzy, lost in Fai's subtle perfume and the eagerness of her mouth. Nothing could've prepared her for this moment, not even her dearest dreams.

They pulled apart, catching their breaths and staring at each other, but Kaphrao wasn't about to show her the effect she had on her. Not yet.

"Does this show my gratefulness well enough?" She said once she regained her normal breathing. She caught sight of Fai's hands gripping the fence tighter and smiled sweetly at her, as satisfied as could be.

Fai cleared her throat and looked to the side, avoiding Kaphrao's watchful eyes. "Mh. Good enough, I guess."

Kaphrao licked her lip. "Ah, I guess you don't want me to thank you anymore, then?"

Fai whipped her head around, wide-eyed stare on Kaphrao. "I never said that!" She swallowed. "You should always be thankful to others when they do nice things for you." She cleared her throat again, knuckles going white.

Kaphrao raised her eyebrows, slowly getting closer again, eyes straying down to Fai's mouth and up again. Fai bit her lip, opening up her mouth minutely as she leaned in.

"Then admit that you like me." Kaphrao suddenly said, taking a step back, hands behind her back and playful smile on her face.

"Huh?" Fai blinked.

"You heard me." Kaphrao said, as nonchalant as she could muster. "If you want me to kiss you again, admit that you like me."

Fai bit her lip. "Fine."

"And that you're the jealous one."

"What?" Fai almost yelled.

Kaphrao smirked. "I know what you were trying to do, telling me about your blind date, but I've got nothing to be jealous about."

Fai frowned. "Nothing?"

"Nothing." Kaphrao shrugged. "You said yourself the girl was annoying, wasn't she?" Fai dumbly nodded. "You on the other hand, did you think I wouldn't notice your stare down with Nod?"

"I don't know what you're talking about." Fai answered swiftly, barely letting Kaphrao finish talking.

Tongue in cheek, Kaphrao nodded and hummed. "Okay, I'll go then. Goodnight."

Kaphrao turned and made to leave, but Fai's sudden shout made her stop on her tracks. She pursed her lips to hide the smile that threatened to overtake her face, cheeks tight and red before schooling her features. She turned back around with rised eyebrows and folded arms.

Fai bit the inside of her cheek before saying with a low voice. "Fine, I was jealous. Happy?" She huffed, grumpy.

Kaphrao's smile was brought back at full force, dimples sweet as she approached Fai and pulled the fence open in slow motion. "Very."

All of the grumpiness faded from her face as soon as Kaphrao held her, hands on her cheeks, and pulled her closer again. Lips found each other again as Fai stumbled forward, almost hitting the wooden fence, getting her arms around Kaphrao's thin waist.

Kaphrao's hands traveled down Fai's neck and wrapped around her shoulders, trying to get her impossibly close as they stumbled back towards the door. The yellowish light of the front porch's lamp illuminated them once they hit the wall, barely reminding them of where they were.

Kaphrao breathed hard as she stared into Fai's eyes. "Was that so hard to admit, P'Jah?" She murmured.

All air was stolen from Fai's lungs at the nickname. "I'm..."

Kaphrao nodded, suddenly feeling shy.

Fai stared at her for a few endless seconds and brushed a stray strand of hair behind Kaphrao's ear. She hesitated only for a split second, leaning forward to place a soft kiss on her reddened cheek. "I like it." She whispered on her skin before trailing a path of sweet pecks down her neck.

Kaphrao swallowed and gripped Fai's jacket, closing her eyes. "P'Jah."

Fai hummed.

"I—" She gulped down some air. "I want—"

"You want...?" Fai nibbled on her shoulder.

Kaphrao bit down on her lip as she felt Fai's tongue give a playful lick at the base of her neck. She pulled her back up for a passionate kiss that Fai didn't refuse.

"I'll give you anything you want." She murmured on her lips, as genuine as ever.

That made Kaphrao smile against Fai's mouth, a warm surge of affection spreading through her body. Fai grinned, a hand on the wall beside Kaphrao's head.

"So..." Fai urged. "What is it?"

She bit her lip again, eyes hopeful and hesitant in equal measure. "Will you stay?"

Fai raised her eyebrows and pointed towards the door. "You mean—?"

Kaphrao nodded with pursed lips, hands snaking loosely around Fai's hips as she pulled her body even closer.

Fai's mouth hung open for only a second before taking one of Kaphrao's hands in hers and pulling her inside as fast as her legs would allow.

Kaphrao laughed as a trembling Fai, buzzing with excitement and nerves, opened and closed the door behind them, rushing to get them to Kaphrao's room and picking her up by the thighs once inside.

Kaphrao's legs wrapped around her and Fai got them to the bed, laying them down with a bit more force than intended. Kaphrao laughed harder at that.

Fai shushed her. "You'll wake up Bua." She said as she threw her jacket somewhere on the floor.

"She sleeps like a log." She grabbed Fai's shoulders. "Now come here."

She didn't need to be told twice. She straddled Kaphrao, one leg between hers, and bent down to kiss her again. She sighed as she caressed Kaphrao's side, the dress riding up a bit at the motion.

"P'Fai." She called. Fai hummed as her hand drifted lower. "Say my name again."

Fai stopped her actions and looked up, finding vulnerable eyes staring back at her. She breathed in.

She smiled softly, trying to convey all the feelings she had been repressing for so long. She rubbed Kaphrao's uncovered thigh, up and down in slow motions. "Phrao."

She closed her eyes with a satisfied smile and hooked her leg around Fai's hips, earning a surprised yelp. She opened them to find that Fai was the one blushing now, all boldness gone with that simple movement.

Kaphrao bit her lip. "P'Fai." She moaned softly, swaying her hips forward.

At that, Fai was gone.
