And they were roommates

Summary:

Clown is going to his second year of college, he just had to go to college in America didn’t he? He doesn’t even know who his roommate is going to be… he hopes it’s someone normal- or at least quiet.

Branzy is starting his second year of college, and he is desperately trying to reel in his social anxiety he developed after his first miserable year- it isn’t working.

Or; Clownzy College AU

Notes:

Hey y’all! So this is kinda similar to my “over the semester” fic as far as premise goes- but it’s going to have very different vibes for obvious reasons.

Also- I’m very American- very white girl from Texas American. I don’t know anything about the Netherlands and I’m google translating all the Dutch.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Moving day

Chapter Text

Clown waved goodbye to his mom and sister as he went to go through security at the airport, he was dreading the school year ahead of him.

“Je hebt alles wat je nodig hebt, toch? We zijn niets vergeten? (You have everything you need, right? We haven't forgotten anything?)” His mother asked.

“Het komt wel goed, mam; we zouden er toch niets aan kunnen doen. It’ll be all right Mom, there’s nothing we could do about it anyway.)” Clown replied, he’d double and triple checked everything before he left so he should be fine.

“Neem de volgende keer wat Amerikaans eten voor me mee! (Bring me back some American food next time!)” Kab called as Clown took his place in line.

“Ik weet niet zeker of ze dat door de beveiliging zouden laten gaan. (I’m not sure if they let that through security.) Clown laughed.

He was going to be practically counting the days until he could fly back home wasn’t he?

He just had to go to college in America didn’t he? He was honestly regretting that decision by now. It was his second year of college, or his sophomore year as the Americans put it- Clown was constantly baffled by their terms for such things.

He was a finance major- there really wasn’t much of a reason for him to be in the states, not really. But he was basically going for fee because of his sports scholarship so, oh well.

It wasn’t so bad, but it was so stupidly hot- at least he didn’t have to stay for the summer but still.

The flight he was on was in gate sixteen, he was unfortunately running slightly late.

He luckily didn’t have to stay in the horrible dorms anymore- upgrading to ‘on campus student apartments.’ Which still wasn’t good by any means- but hey, he got his own room.

The downside was that his old roommate, who he had planned on requesting again so he wouldn’t have to start over with someone he didn’t know, had gotten expelled. For what? Clown had no idea.

So that ment he’d be likely stuck rooming with someone on the fencing team, who he didn’t particularly get along with.

It wasn’t that they hated each other- no hate was far to strong a word it was more of, generally disliking of each other’s personalities.

To put it plainly the other fencers were far too loud for Clowns taste, and he was far too blunt for there’s.

He reached the gate right as “Now boarding for Zone 3.” Was called out.

Clown didn’t particularly like air travel but he didn’t really have an alternative, he just hoped he wouldn’t be stuck next to someone chatty-

He was.

He was stuck next to Pangi, another College student flying out of the Netherlands. Who was also a finance major.

Clown new Pangi, they had to go to all the same classes for their majors.

He did not like Pangi.

He didn’t like that he knew dutch and he couldn’t blatantly insult him without consequences.

He didn’t like that he was apparently incredibly talkative.

“What do you think the chances are that we’re roommates?” Pangi asked.

Clown desperately hoped that they weren’t.

“I’m in apartment 2AC? What about you?”

Clown hoped the roar of the engines covered his sigh of relief. “I’m in apartment 1BC, sorry.”

“Oh, ok…” he was hoping Pangi would shut up after that, but he didn’t.

He couldn’t stand talkative people, he could feel his eye twitching slightly. Pangi didn’t shut up until they landed, and of course he stuck around Clown afterwards because they were going to the same location.

Maybe he should try picking up French… he already knew a little…

Eventually Clowns ears were spared when they finally got to campus and one of Pangi’s friends met him there, Zam. Clowns fencing teammate.

“Well if it isn’t my two favorite- you know I don’t know how to finish that statement because just saying ‘Dutch’ sounds weird. Hi Clown, was wondering if you were coming back for a minute there!” Zam exclaimed giving Pangi a one armed hug.

If there was anyone on the fencing team Clown would go as far to say he hated, it’d be Zam.

Hate was still a strong word though- his general dislike for the guy was probably being amplified by the ten hours of travel.

“I’d love to chat Zam, but I’m exhausted so I’m just going to head to my apartment, get settled in.” Clown replied.

“You need help with your bags?” Zam asked eyeing Clowns two heavy duffel bags and backpack.

“Nope, I’m good.” Clown practically rushed past Zam.

At least Clown knew for a fact Zam wasn’t his knew roommate- he was a year above Clown, and the school didn’t assign roommates of different years unless requested.

Soon Clown came to his new apartment door, he could see that his roommate had definitely arrived already, mainly because of a couple glittery purple star stickers on the door.

He heaved a sigh, that wasn’t a good sign for a quiet roommate. He also doubted this was one of his teammates.

So a complete stranger who liked glitter stickers huh? Not good.

He unlocked the door with his new keycard and pushed it open, and was surprised to see, he actually knew- or well recognized the student leaning back on a chair in the apartment.

The boy got incredibly startled when Clown walked in, falling backwards.

“Hmmggmm… Oh! Hi, I’m Zee Craft. But everyone calls me Branzy.” Branzy smiled picking himself up from the ground.

“Hi, Pierce Schermer, or Clown. I assume you’re my new roommate?”

“Oh- yup! I- uh… didn’t know if you had a preference for which room so I didn’t claim any yet… I don’t care.” Branzy mumbled.

Clown had met Branzy briefly a couple times before, he was a mechanical engineering major- that particular fact had been burned into Clowns mind over the last year. Why? Because another engineering major, and Clowns teammate, Spoke, wouldn’t stop complaining about him.

Apparently Branzy was a year younger than most students and kept one upping Spoke in projects.

“Ok, how old are you? I heard you were younger then most students.” Clown asked.

“Oh- I’m eighteen. Being a minor was a pain last year… but I’m officially an adult now, you?”

“Twenty, did you put the stickers on the door?”

“Yeah… I can take them off if you want. I tend to put stickers on everything- forgot that I’d have a roommate.”

“No- you can keep them. I don’t really care as long as they don’t end up on my stuff.” Maybe Clown was quick to assume, Branzy seemed fairly normal- a little quiet even.

Though that seemed to be mainly because of nerves, he’d probably get a little louder.

Branzy was short, probably around 1.7 meters tall, maybe a little shorter. He had bright white hair with a purple streak running through it, blue eyes that looked a little purple- and he was wearing a purple dress shirt and gray cargo pants-

Very purple. Clown could appreciate a theme though.

Scanning the rest of the apartment he realized it wasn’t much of an upgrade from the dorms- well, it definitely was but it was still tiny.

There was one big common room, ‘big’ was an overstatement, it had what was technically a full sized kitchen, but was really more of a kitchenette, with a small peninsula counter with two bar stools that was acting as the ‘dining room.’

There was also a pathetic excuse of a couch with a decent table with an ancient TV on it.

Well, it was pretty much what was advertised at least.

Clown then went to take a look at the bedrooms, they were big enough for a twin sized bed, a desk, some shelves above both, and nothing else.

The other bedroom was the exact same thing, only mirrored.

He somewhat dreaded looking at the bathroom, but was surprised that it was actually quite good- the tiling looked brand new, and there wasn’t even any visible water damage.

So the only difference was that one bedroom was closer to the bathroom- and the other was closer to the door.

Clown decided to take the room closer to the door, dragging his bags into it.

He was going to practically pass out on the bed.

“Um… nice meeting you?” Branzy called before Clown shut the door.

“We zullen zien konijntje.” Clown replied before shutting the door.
