Casual? (Clothes I mean)

Summary:

MeQuot is in a dire situation where his clothes are near turning back to rags. So when he asks Artful to get him a few new things from town to replenish his wardrobe, this leaves the problem of what to wear while he’s gone.

But Devesto surely wouldn’t mind letting him take any unwanted shirts and pants would he?
(Devesto is more than comfortable seeing Mequot in his casual wear)

Notes:

Need more Devesquot. This also was not proof read. It’s 4:00 am :,)

Chapter 1: A simple request

Chapter Text

Mequot’s wardrobe has often consisted of a variety of black formal wear. Whether it be button ups or turtle necks, much of his outfit consists of a black shirt and a dark trench coat over them with black slacks accompanied with matching black gloves.

Which is why it throws the poor man off when he finds much of his attire absolutely tarnished. Holes and rips cover the shirts, excluding the hole that makes space for the weapon impaling his chest. This along with stains of unknown matter that had permanently drenched his clothes. Though his blood is another mix in the mess Mequot would rather that it would be the only mess.

The causation for all of this was the many previous “visits” to the town where resides many unhappy and anxious civilians. He had just come back from a round a while back too. This left him with his garments on the brink of turning back into rags. Same is said about all his other clothes. He didn’t even enjoy killing as much as the others, if anything he disliked it, yet it was starting to get to him after the fifth shirt was reduced to scrap. But of course he couldn’t be that mad.

Although, those civilians had many different ways of getting his hands dirtier than desired.

And so this leaves Mequot with not many options for what to wear at the moment. He doesn't need to take out any civilians, thankfully, so he can figure out how to tackle the problem of what to find in the meantime to wear. He could maybe ask Artful if he could go into town without his getup to get him some new clothes, but it may take awhile for the magician to get to the task given the situation of round arrangements. Maybe borrowing? Much of the other killers don’t really wear clothes with them either being robots or a different creature entirely.

The only other people who do wear clothes are Artful, him, and Devesto.

Artful isn’t that much shorter than Mequot but that difference is still an uncomfortable difference when it comes to garments. Although the clothes would probably fit Mequot’s general style it would still be a bit too small for him since they have different builds. Not only that he wouldn’t want to blood ridden the clothes since it’s such a signature for the other.

Devesto on the other hand was around the same height as him with only being a few centimeters taller, along with having a more bulky figure in contrast to Mequot’s silhouette. He wasn’t necessarily scrawny, somewhat lean yet he was still smaller in comparison to the other. Borrowing clothes from him wouldn’t be much of an issue perhaps, after all they’re likely more loose fitting compared to Artful’s. Devesto probably wouldn’t care as much as Artful when it came to the issue of his wound- f3x and all. If he was brave enough he would ask him to fix his clothes with it, but asking for something unwanted like extra shirts and pants seem to take up less time and space from Devesto.

Mequot’s first objective is to try and see if Artful could go into town at some point to help replenish his wardrobe. As he looks around the area where the killers reside he sees artful near the hallway towards the Lounge area.

The housing is awfully nice for a place filled with mass murders, a fully functional kitchen, bathrooms, a living room, and even designated sleeping areas. Although Pursuer slept outside and the mechanical beings had charging stations, much of it was awfully similar to an apartment complex.

Back to the target at hand, Mequot walks up to other in monochrome, waiting for him to notice his presence. As he preferred to not be pushy in anyway.

“Oh! Mequot- What are you doing here? Is there anything you need?”
Artful turned around with a confused expression. A raised eyebrow is seen as he looks up and down examining the other.

Albeit the problem is rather noticeable without words.

“O-oh well I think it’s rather obvious. Taking that you already see it..”
Mequot pulled down on his tattered shirt covered in stains and partially ripped off with it exposing a sliver of his midsection.

“I was actually wondering if you could perhaps go into town and purchase me some new clothes.” He looks away nervously as he says the request.

“You don’t need to pay really- I can lend you some of my own cash! I just need anything in good condition and in black.” He quickly clarified.

Artful takes in another glance at Mequot’s overall outfit. The shirt looked partially mauled as if Pursuer had committed the deed, pants were covered in stains which were unrecognizable in what they came from, and the coat over the whole thing was in horrid condition looking as if it were decaying.

“Sure, I don’t mind all that much. If anything it’d be cruel to let you stay in that any longer.” He said eying the immortal.

“Those civilians ripped more into your clothes than into you.”

Mequot, still looking away, shrugs with a shaky grin.
“I'd honestly prefer that over the alternative.” He giggles a bit as he makes the comment

“it would’ve been easier to deal with. With my current state and all-“

“You really do have a way with how you make such simple things seem more valuable than yourself.” He states with an exhausted expression.

“But anyways- I’ll probably go into town in a few days and be there for another few too. Chances are I’ll be back in around four or five days max. Maybe more if something goes wrong.” The performer explains. The other nods attentively as the details are given.

“For the time being what are you gonna do about- That…”
Pointing at what are basically rags hanging off the other.

“I plan to ask if Devesto had anything he could lend in the meantime- he must have at least a few unwanted spares.”

“Devesto? Oh right! The others don’t wear clothes.. Ugh why do we let them walk around the way they do?”

“Well they’re either extraterrestrial beings or bots so I guess the restriction of clothes doesn't matter much to them.” He responds to the rhetorical with a genuine answer as Artful sighs at the thought of living with said creatures.

“I suppose.. anyway, shouldn’t you get to asking for a new clean thing to wear?”

“You’re getting it from Devesto apparently, right?”
Artful asks with a strong hint of doubt in his voice. It'd be rude to question why from him knowing his questionable behavior, but it still sparks curiosity.

“Yeah”

“No offense Artful but I don't believe your clothes would fit me very well.”

“No you’re right”
As agitated as Artful is at the statement’s implications he lets it slide knowing Mequot had been through a lot.

“But I guess you’re right about the other thing, I’d prefer to get a pair of clothes that are mostly intact by the end of the day.” Mequot says as he gets up to his next task at hand.

“I’ll see you later”

“Uh huh. Alright then“ Artful waves back as he watches the other walk off.

‘Devesto?’ Artful thinks to himself as he walks out the kitchen.

“That asshole. lending stuff?’

‘No way he’d do that- But I guess I’ll see..’

—-

Devesto is sitting in his room bored out of his mind as he messes with the f3x. Laying on his bed as he spawns in random items and half memorized structures as a means of entertainment. There was barely anything to do as the others were assigned to go into town and do all of the chaos causing.

The abuser thought of ways to get rid of his boredom for the next few days. Maybe messing with Badware? The guy is always noisy anyways, messing with a few of the outlets would be funny. Watching the bot fumble through a round has always been pretty hilarious. But he would get even more obnoxious after, especially since the thing isn’t entirely dense. Pursuer? God no. That thing can stay outside and out of his sight. The last time he tried something the thing growled at him and Devesto didn’t want to figure out what would happen next. Getting rabies isn’t on his bucket list at the moment. And if he even got started on Killdroid or Harken he would get hunted down again. Though a fun way to play tag, it’s way too tiring for the f3x wielder's liking. And Artful? He’s played too many tricks on the guy for it to be any fun anymore. Plus being scolded by him through his bedroom door is something he also isn’t into.

Frustrated and overall tired he closes his eyes and attempts to sleep it off till the problem is cured.

Well- he was going to. That was until he got pulled out of his thoughts by a faint knocking at his door. As a poor attempt to ignore the sound the abuser shuts his eyes tighter. The knocking still continues, persistent yet awfully quiet. Still annoying though.

‘Who the fuck could possibly be bothering me-’ Devesto had thought bitterly as he got up from his bed to check on who the offender was.

As he opens the door he’s greeted by an immortal with a timid expression. Sword impaled through his chest with bright red contrasting the rest of his outfit. But that isn’t the only thing Devesto notices, the quote on quote outfit in question looked like it was on its last thread. Dress shirt was torn thoroughly and was covered in not only Mequots blood strangely. Pants weren’t any better either, they were frayed at the end of where it covered his ankle- well kind of. They might as well leave them exposed at this point. Multiple ideas cross his mind as he wonders the reason for Mequot looking so disheveled.

‘Geez did the dude get into a fight with Pursuer or something?’

‘Honestly I didn’t think he had it in him, but it also kinda looks like he lost that fight too.’
As Devesto continues to theorize the other’s reason for his poor state of attire, Mequot stands in the abuser’s doorway, anxious, as eyes scan over him.

“Uh.. Devesto?” Mequot stares back at him with furrowed brows as the other snaps out of his daydream.

“The hell happened to you?” He gets straight to the point with a curious yet annoyed expression sitting on his face as he questions the other.

“I- well.. The past few rounds were..”
A short pause ensues as Mequot tries to think of a way to negate the embarrassment when wording his next sentence. A hand goes to his mouth as he thinks.

“-Unfortunate.. The civilians down there were quite…
determined to rip me to shreds to say the least.” The other continues.

Devesto listens half attentively as he waits for the reason why he needs to be involved.
“And?”

“And at the moment, I have not much to wear considering the condition of what I’m wearing.”

“Much could be said about the rest of my closet..”

“I asked Artful to go buy me some but he said it would take a few days”

Devesto lifts an eyebrow as the immortal explains further, slowly putting together a few pieces.

“Sooo, what exactly do you want me to do about it?”
He was half expecting the stabbed individual to ask for the use of his f3x, but instead he got a stranger request.

“I was wondering if you had any unwanted clothes you wouldn’t mind lending me for a few days.”

That was a lot more unexpected than he thought, but that question is definitely a bit weird. He has a tool of infinite possibilities, he could go on to repair the deadman’s wrecked wardrobe in a few minutes. Why bother asking for clothes? Was he underestimating him?

Nah..
Mequot is way too passive of a person to think something like that. If anything he’d feel guilty for let alone thinking of it at all. He can probably guess why he opted to ask for extra clothes rather than asking for the other option. The guy is way too worried about everyone else to care about his own time and stuff being wasted. The more he thinks about it, the immortal is way too nice to be a killer. The only thing that can really make him seem like one is the obvious blade stuck in the guy and his getup which looks like he’s on his way to a funeral. Though the vibe is thrown off if you take one look at his face.

‘His face is too nice looking to be on this side.’

Actually going back to the other’s choice in clothes- when has he ever seen the corpse where anything that isn’t formal. Neatly done hair and always in formal dress clothes. From his coat to his shoes he was covered in black. The only contrast to it all is the bit of color on Mequot’s clothes that come from his own blood.

An idea hits Devesto as he continues thinking. He could definitely exploit this.
Though another thought crossed his mind.

‘Mequot in regular clothes? Wonder what that looks like.”

He thought to himself as he looked back at the other still waiting for a response. Though the concept was interesting he was more focused on the idea that he originally was set on. He could totally use this to ask him for favors. He doubts Mequot would mind, after all he would agree as a way to make it up to Devesto for mildly bothering him. It seems that Devesto will have a new way to keep himself entertained. He could practically ask him to do almost everything.

Yeah, these next few days will definitely be interesting.

He snaps out of his thoughts as Mequot begins to back track his request. After all, he didn't get a response after like 5 or so minutes.

“I mean you don’t need to! I could probably keep wearing these or find another alternative. It’s just for a few days till Artful comes back with new clothes anyway. I’m sure it woul-“

The rambling is cut short when Devesto interrupts the other before he spirals too far.
“Chill out would you?”

“Sure I’ll let you borrow a few, but I get to cash in a few favors for the days you’re borrowing them.”

Mequot stares at him with a baffled but grateful expression as he listens.

“Got it?” Devesto flashes a grin and it gets the other to ease up.

He nods in compliance as a small smile appears on his face. Which could be from relief of being able to wear proper clothes or the fact Devesto agreed at all in the first place.
But either way he’s happy regardless.

-
Once Devesto agreed he started rummaging through his closet to find if there’s anything to give to Mequot given the deal they made. Tossing them into a cardboard box for the other to take with him. While rummaging he found some old graphic Tees and a couple pairs of sweat pants. He also found a jacket he didn’t remember having but it might as well go into the box too. He even decided to throw in his own signature pieces of clothing just to see how it would look on the other. I mean god forbid he be curious, it’d be funny to see how stupid the guy would look trying to dress like him.

After tossing in a few more things Devesto gets up and hands the box to the impaled man standing at his door.
Mequot takes the container and starts to sift through a few of the T-shirts Devesto picked out.

“Like ‘em? I’m well known for my great style, y'know.”

“But I wouldn’t want you to spoil the rest of the surprises I left in there. So try not to peek all too much.”
He says as he takes his hands and closes the flaps of the box, concealing the rest of the items he packed in. Though packing wouldn’t be the right saying- more like half hazardly crammed in.

—-
As Mequot walks out with the box he still can’t help but worry if Devesto gave him something ridiculous that he’s gonna have to parade around in. Considering the man’s nature and how doubtful Artful looked when he told him, he really hopes that they’re somewhat presentable to wear around the Killer’s base. While walking to his room he continues to think. Him and Devesto could be considered friends sort of, he did willing lend him his personal belongings to borrow. Yet again he did talk about future favors for them.

Once he arrives he places the box near his bed stand as he opens the package to take out whatever he can wear to bed. He grabs a T-shirt, something that looks custom made and a pair of black sweat pants, fitting for someone who wears black regularly. Despite looking like the person to wear pajamas to bed he doesn’t actually own any. Most times he goes to bed in one of his dress shirts, poorly buttoned, and a pair of pants. Sure it’s uncomfortable but it’s easier to get up and get ready in the morning when you already wear what you have planned in the morning.

He takes off his coat and other garments and leaves them on a chair near his study along with the shoes kicked under the desk.

As he takes out the sword impaling his chest he picks up the cloth and stares at it for a long moment and make a small observation.

‘I don’t think I've ever owned anything as comfortable looking as this before.”

A funny giddy feeling bubbles in his chest as he realises he gets to wear something actually made to be slept in.

Then another realization comes, this is Devesto’s..

I’ll be wearing Devesto’s clothes.

He brushed off the thought as he got ready for bed, ignoring the embarrassed flush that took over his face as he put the shirt over his head and pulled it down. It fit nicely despite the baggy aspect of it. He started to put on the sweat pants next, they were a bit bigger on him so he tightened the drawstrings to bring them to a fit where they wouldn’t fall down. Lastly he needed to reinsert the sword into his chest. Curse whoever had stabbed him cause not only did it prevent him from sleeping comfortably, but it never let him have one piece of clothing without a huge hole and a bright red stain.

Shame that the shirt would be messed up.

But being without that damned sword for too long causes gradual pain the longer he keeps it out of his body. Mequot would much rather deal with it in rather than deal with the effects of it when it’s out.

Once done he flicks off the light switch and collapses onto his sheets allowing all of his exhaustion to release from his body as he waits for the next day to arrive. Closing his eyes as he drifts off to slumber.

Awaiting what else could be in that box of “surprises” Devesto gave him.

Notes:

This might be a bit ooc but wtv. I personally headcanon Mequot with clothes cause I believe he’s a dapper fella. No hate to furquot tho.
