Work Text:

Nene sat on one of the cushions on Emu’s floor, looking up at the pink haired girl. Emu asked Nene to come over after school to show her something and to just hang out. She didn’t mind spending time with her girlfriend. A jam packed schedule wasn’t something Nene had, and she also didn’t have any practice for their show after school today due to Rui getting sick and Tsukasa taking care of him. Those damn lovebirds…

“Guess what I have!!” She exclaimed, beaming her usual contagious smile. Nene tilted her head gently to the side as she put a hand to her chin.

“Hmm…Another plushie?” Her guess didn’t seem too far off. Emu always had a lot of new snuggly friends she would introduce to her from time to time. Emu shook her head and grabbed a gray box from behind her, it looked more modern and desolate than what Emu liked; Similar to one of the storage containers in their school art room.

“Art supplies!” She smiled impossibly wider. Emu sat on the ground and opened the lid to the box. Streamers, pencils, scissors, coloring tools, colored paper, and markers were neatly arranged inside the box.

“The art teacher gave me some of the extra art supplies she didn’t need since it’s the end of the school year, and she’s retiring.” Her smile slightly drooped at the last sentence.

“Do you want to make some crafts with them?” Nene asked, trying to cheer her up. She knew that was her favorite teacher, it must be hard knowing she wouldn’t be there anymore. Emu smiled softly and she nodded. Nene reached over to the box and pulled out some colored paper and silly scissors. She loves those.
“Here, cut out some patterns and we’ll make a little picture.” Nene handed the items to the pink haired girl. She took them to her desk and laid the supplies out on the light brown wood of her study desk. A bright smile appeared into her face as she grabbed some colored paper that was split into pink and green. Her hand reached over to the silly scissors, a specific squiggly line one. She brought the metal to the paper. The scissors cut through the patterned paper effortlessly, separating the pink from the green. Nene watched Emu with a small smile painted onto her features. She was having a lot of fun with these paper crafts. The light pink of her tongue popped out from the side of her mouth as she worked. Nene got up to grab some markers from the gray box and left with little streamers, ribbon, markers, and glue. She set the items onto another side of the desk and carefully watched Emu finish the paper cutting.

“I got some decorations.” A bright glint appeared in Emu’s eyes.

“Yay! This is so wo wo wonderhoy!” Her happiness reflected onto Nene, and she gave a soft laugh.

“Let’s decorate!”

Decorations were scattered across the desk, glue stuck to both of their hands, and a little craft was on the table. A square piece of paper with one side green and one side pink with a squiggly line separating them. Little light red ribbon tied into bows were glued at the corners of the paper, doodles of the opposite color were on each side. Colorful streamers were cut smaller and outlined the paper. Two stick figures were colored in shades of green and pink. Emu gazed down at the craft with awe and pride. Nene watched her expression before turning towards the craft. It was silly and childish but Nene didn’t care. Nene’s attempt to cheer Emu up worked, and they had a cute little craft now! Emu’s eyes narrowed and she grabbed a black marker, carefully writing the words,

“Wonderhoy Lovers!” With a heart to dot the exclamation mark. Nene’s eye’s widened and then softened. She hugged Emu, nuzzling her face into her sweater.

“I love you.” She mumbled out. Emu giggled.

“I love you too!”
