Chapter Text
O Helga Natt
Isaks POV:
Dear Isak. I’m sitting, now, where we met one another for the first time, and I’m thinking about you. Soon, it’ll be 21:21. I want to say a thousand things to you. I’m sorry for scaring you. I’m sorry for hurting you. I’m sorry for not telling you that I’m bipolar. I was afraid of losing you; had forgotten, that it’s impossible to lose anybody. That all people are alone, anyway. In another place in the universe, we’re together, forever. Remember that. Love you. Even.
Isak read the message and a small smile came to his face. He was filled with relief by the proof that he did mean something to Even, and that their relationship wasn't just a manic obsession that he had fallen victim to.
It came out of nowhere that his heart dropped, memories started overtaking him
The altar in front of him, just like Juliet's death bed, where a young man had killed himself over a lost love.
Sleep. Even says Sleep is the cousin of death.………
He thought of Romeo and how his story was Even’s idea of an epic love story. Did Even really believe that all love had to end in tragedy? Would Even end their story before it could ever properly begin? Would Isak have to find his lover dead just like Romeo had found his?
His heart dropped. Depression. He had read that after mania came depression.
Isak pulled out his phone and reread Even's message. It sounded frighteningly like a goodbye.
“All people are alone anyway”
Did Even really think he was alone? But of course he did, Isak had told him to stop texting him. He had abandoned Even when he needed him the most. He felt a sinking feeling in his stomach and felt like he was going to throw up. It didn’t help that he hated churches.
He read the message one more time. He couldn't stop picturing Even sitting alone on the bench where they had first spoken.
“All people are alone anyway”
He couldn’t let Even feel alone. He wasn’t alone. Isak just needed to show him that he wasn’t.
Isak quickly stood up, feeling as if his mind was no longer connected to his body.
“I'm sorry Mamma I have to go.”
She looked up at him and slowly nodded. His father looked confused but he didn’t care, he had to get to Even.
The melody of the song echoed all around as he left the church. The women in the pews gave him dirty looks and whispered among each other, but he left anyway. The church door shut behind him and the song faded as he started running.
He ran, his legs taking him where his mind told him he needed to be. He tried to stay calm but he couldn't get Even out of his head.
He thought of how Even had kissed him in the hotel elevator, like he was the only one in the world. He had never felt that way before, he had kissed girls before but it was always different. With Even it was different. It was better.
He thought of Even who came to his house and made him feel like no other person was alive but them.
Even coming to visit him in the gym, kissing him in the locker room.
Even lying in his bed and asking him if he could stay there forever.
Even who had kissed him in the pool, taking a risk Isak himself was terrified of.
Even looking at him across the room as if he was the only one there.
Even’s eyes staring into his eyes before Isak even knew he liked him.
A small voice in the back of his head reminded him what Sonja had said.
“He's manic! You think he loves you, He doesn’t”
But then he remembered what Even had said: The only way to love something forever is to lose it.
And he didn't want to lose Even.
The cold air of the city brought him back to his body as he ran through the gates of the school.
“Dear Isak. I’m sitting, now, where we met one another for the first time” but he wasn't there? The bench was empty. Had he come all this way for nothing? Was it too late?
Just as he was about to turn around to leave, he remembered the bathroom. He turned around to go look inside when the school’s door opened.
Even was walking out, wearing a large winter coat, his hood was up and it looked like he was trying to hide inside his clothing. As soon as he saw Isak he stopped walking, he looked like he had seen a ghost.
Isak felt like he was going to throw up. Even was here. He was safe.
Isak slowly started walking toward Even, and Even slowly started walking toward him. Even looked at him like he didn't believe he was real.
As they got closer together Isak felt his body tense up. His anxiety kept reminding him anyone could see them. He had never showed Even any affection in public. But when they were inches apart Isak couldn't help it. He buried his face in Evens neck. He was so happy to see him. Even was safe, and Even needed him. That was all that mattered.
“Du er ikke alene”
