Chapter Text
For the last couple of weeks, it had been quiet.
Too quiet.
Aside from a few minor Rogue appearances, Gotham had been almost... normal. No major attacks. No explosions. No citywide disasters. No familiar maniac making headlines.
To the people of the neighboring cities that was something to celebrate.
To the Gothamites, that was a problem.
Gotham was never this calm. Never this collected.
The silence made people nervous.
Anxiety lingered in the streets like an approaching storm. Eyes constantly shifted, scanning rooftops and alleyways, waiting for something to happen. People walked a little faster. Police officers kept their hands closer to their weapons. Even seasoned Gothamites found themselves glancing over their shoulders.
Everyone was waiting.
Because in Gotham, peace wasn't reassuring.
Peace was a warning.
And the longer the city remained quiet, the more stressed everyone became.
You could feel it in the air.
You could smell it.
You could almost taste it.
Something was coming.
Gotham just didn't know what.
