Green meets a colorful cast of characters!

Notes:

Hi everyone! It’s me, the one that comments on everything!

I work at a restaurant and desperately wanted to force the Skeld crew to work at one because I need to vent my frustrations somehow!

Also, yes, all these tags WILL come into play. Green has a crush on everyone. EVERYONE I TELL YOU!
E V E R Y O N E ! It’s insane.

I honestly made this at work while listening to Maretu and didn’t really proofread it all that much.

Anyway, I hope y’all enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

It was Green’s first day at The Skeld, a highly proclaimed restaurant in the heart of the city of Mira. Yes, they are merely an intern, but they’ll work their way up to General Manager in no time! They hope.

Green walks up to the front door and takes a deep breath in, putting a hand on the door handle.

“It’s okay Green! It’s just your first day! You just have to make a good impression and work hard and do well and… you got this,” Green reassures themselves.

They take a deep breath and open the door

to see a multitude of people, every table filled and a large crowd in the waiting area. Everyone looks as though they are dressed for some wedding.

The host doesn’t notice Green, they just sigh and grab a toothpick from the dispenser. They then proceed to stick it into their mouth like a piece of hay.

Green awkwardly walks up to the counter, blocking out the chattering from the guests.

Now that Green has a good look at them, they notice they have a lean build and a tan complexion. Their hair is purple and put into a messy ponytail, almost spiky. They wear the classic host uniform, a black collared shirt with a purple vest and black jeans. Their nametag says Purple.

Purple seems to notice Green after what felt like hours, waking them up from their daze causing them to stand straight and shove the toothpick into their back pocket.

“Hello there, welcome! How many people in your party tonight?” Purple asks, barely managing to sound cheerful, their voice having a slight growl. Green awkwardly stands there for a moment as Purple’s gaze pierces through them.

“I… I’m here for my internship,” Green stammers, barely getting the words out. Purple studies their features. Short, messy hair, olive complexion, and they looked to still be young.

“Oh. You’re the new intern. Sorry about that,” Purple drops the act, letting their voice become deeper, and leans on the counter, looking away from Green. They put the toothpick back in their teeth. They turn to grab a walkie talkie and begin speaking.

“Yo Orange! The intern is here, get your ass to the front!” Purple practically screams into the device. Green looks at Purple, shocked they cursed, in a highly professional environment no less!

“I’ll be right there! I’m so excited to show the intern around!” The cheerful voice, supposedly Orange, says, “Also Purple, please do not cuss! This is a highly-rated restaurant, and we can not afford to tarnish our reputation,” Orange lowers their voice, sending a chill up Green’s body, “Thank you! Be there in a jiffy!”

Purple shuts off the walkie talkie and groans, leaning into the wall behind them. They grab their soda (Wait, where did that come from?) and take a sip. Purple notices Green staring.

“What? It’s just some cola?” Purple grumbles, taking another sip before setting it under the counter (oh… that’s where it came from).

“I… sorry Purple, for staring. I just…”

“Oh hello! Was I interrupting somethin’?” someone says from behind them. Purple glares while Green turns around, “Oh lookie here! It’s the intern!”

The person in question is short, Green has to look down at them! They have dark skin and bright, curly, orange hair tucked into a bun . They have glasses and wear a white shirt with a dusty orange vest. They hold a clipboard in their arm.

“You must be Green, correct? Hello!” Orange excitedly states as they grab Green’s hand and vigorously shake it, “I’m Orange, the Assistant Manager here at The Skeld! Come to me for anything you need help with!” Orange lets go of Green’s hand and pulls out a pen from their hair, writing something down.

“Nice to meet you… too?” Green asks, hesitant.

“Oh wonderful! Already polite!” Orange writes on a paper, “Purple here could learn a lot from you!” Purple glares at Orange, scoffing before shifting their focus elsewhere.

“Purple here is our hostess! Although they are quite… stubborn… I assure you they are much nicer when you get to know them!”

Green looks between the two, Purple with their toothpick and Orange smiling brightly.

“Now, I’m gonna show you around, come with me!” Orange motions Green to follow them.

They lead Green towards the kitchen, passing by many tables and waiters. Green arrives at the kitchen and there seems to be a lot of commotion.

“Goddammit Tan! It ain’t that hard to make a caesar salad!”

“Sorry chef.”

“Ya’ better be sorry when I’m done with cha!”

There was an immense amount of screaming, mostly from one crewmate. Their voice held authority, making whoever it was targeted at instantly stop slacking.

The crewmate in question was towering over every other crewmate in the room. Their dark skin and bright yellow hair, barely contained in their hairnet, make them stand out against the rest. They have a black shirt and pants on with a white apron, which had stickers decorated all over.

Green watches as another chef walks over. They were shorter than the other but definitely more chubby. They were also dark, their hair was a deep shade of brown—almost black—and wearing a similar outfit to the other minus the stickers.

“Calm down,” they say to the angry chef while putting a hand on their shoulder. The other calms down.

“Thanks Brown. Dunno what I’d do without ya!”

Brown nods and walks towards the freezer while Green watches, absolutely stunned. How could someone get such an angry crewmate calm in seconds?

Orange’s voice snaps Green out of their thoughts.

“…Yellow, our Executive Chef! They’re very… how do I say this…” Orange pauses for a moment while Green continues watching the chefs work, “…honest! Yes, we’ll go with that! And the one who went into the freezer is the Sous Chef, Brown!”

“Ey Orange! Is that the intern?” Yellow asks, voice overpowering the other chefs, “Hope yer gon treat ‘em better than the-”

“Oooookay… off to the next area!” Orange drags Green out of the kitchen while Yellow continues to yell about how they can’t avoid them forever.

Orange darts out of the kitchen, Green in tow, and heads towards the center of the restaurant.

“This is the bar! You won’t be working inside of it at all, but you may need to serve our lovely definitely-not-drunk customers!” Orange says, trying to hide their sarcasm.

The bar is surrounded by partial walls to create a more comfortable atmosphere. The bar itself was busy, drinks being made left and right. There was an assortment of wines, beers, alcohols, and syrups behind the counter in a sort of ‘kitchen island.’ A lone bartender was working, frantically preparing drinks and taking orders, all with a smile.

The bartender was pale, barely any color in their skin. Their hair is messy (probably from all the moving around) and a pearly white. They wear a white collared shirt and equally white pants covered in stains.

“This is White, our Bartender! Cocktails, mocktails, martinis, margaritas… they can make it all!” Orange waves at White.

Green watches White, admiring the precision and speed at which they make the drinks. It’s mesmerizing. Green also waves, much less energetically than Orange. White gives a quick smile and winks at Green.

Did White just wink at them?

Orange is saying something, but Green can only focus on White’s movements. Orange drags Green away while Green watches as the bar (and White) gets smaller and smaller.

What? Green just met them? Just. Met. Them! Not even a conversation! Just looked in their direction! And they winked at Green! What could this possib-

“..tern? Green? Hello?” Orange snaps them out of their thoughts, “Oh thank goodness! I thought you left us for a second!”

“Wha… what…”

“Anyway…” Orange gestures to a door labeled Break Room, “This is where you’ll take your breaks! Come on, go in!” Green hesitantly opens the door to the break room.

“-Ack, Black! The new guy’s gonna come in soon! I feel it in my soul! Oh Black, aren’t you excited! A new coworker Black? Bla-” an overly excited crewmate beams.

“They’re literally in the doorframe, Cyan. In front of us,” the other, Black, says monotonously as they gesture towards Green and Orange.

“This is Black and Cyan! Our two bussers!” Orange grins at the two and waves. Black rolls their eyes while Cyan waves back.

Black and Cyan are both wearing overalls with white shirts beneath and a bowtie. Both Cyan and Black have tan skin, Cyan’s just being slightly darker.

Black has their hair worn straight down, long and thick. Cyan’s hair is also worn down, but more wavy and much shorter.

“Actually, I also wait, not just a busser,” Black scoffs at Orange, “Cyan here is just a busser.”

“Ah ah ah! That’s not what the paperwork says!” Orange says, matter-of-factly.

“Well, the paperwork is bullshi-”

Orange grabs Green by the waist and lifts them over their shoulder. Green can’t help but feel flustered at the sudden movement.

“Hey… um… Orange? Where are we going?” Green yells, “Also why are you holding me like this?”

“To answer your first question, we’re going to storage! Oh and your other question, I just needed to leave before Black did something rash!” Orange heads through an opening in the wall, which connects to the kitchen. Yellow still seems to be yelling.

“This is storage! A place where we store ingredients, supplies, equipment, wires… just about anything!” Orange gestures around the room.

There is a dishwasher, closet and many, many boxes. Green is unable to find anything interesting before a crewmate holding a tray bumps into them.

Green almost tumbles down to the tiled floor before being suspended in the air. They open their eyes and realize their hand is being held.

“I’m so sorry! Are you hurt?” the one that caught them asks while balancing Green back to their feet, “I wasn’t looking where I was going-“ Green could barely listen. They were gorgeous

Glowing skin, dark blue hair in a ponytail, long eyelashes, sparking eyes… they were perfect. All while wearing a dusty server uniform too! Hell, the blue apron and black shirt show their build in jarringly beautiful detail.

Green shakes their head to get out of those thoughts.

“Oh you must be our new coworker,” the most perfect crewmate says with their smooth and elegant voice, “I’m Blue, I’m one of the waiters here at The Skeld. Pleasure to meet you, I hope we can talk soon,” they say before darting into the kitchen.

Green stares at where Blue was previously standing, brain short-circuiting as they attempt to process the beauty that Blue is.

“…and that’s Blue! Our head waiter who insists on waiting tables, tsk tsk tsk…” Orange shakes their head and sighs, “They’re too beautiful for this job,” they grumble.

Green frowns at that. Why would someone as beautiful as them willingly get paid minimum wage?

Orange clears their throat before walking in the opposite direction of the kitchen.

“Well, we only have one destination left!” Orange swaps back to their cheerful demeanor and motions for Green to follow, “We’re going to meet the-”

“General manager!” a gruff voice interrupts, “Where are they, dammit! I needa tell ‘em somethin!” Green looks up to see a crewmate peeking their head out of the vent.

“Who… how…” Green stutters as they look at the crewmate. They wore dirty brown overalls and a green bandana. Short, lime hair falls over the bandana (which they are holding in place).

“This is Lime,” Orange groans, “Our… mechanic.”

“Yeah, you gotta problem with that? I keep this damn restaurant runnin’ with my own two hands!” Lime snaps, “I’ll let cha know, the damn gremlins keep tinkerin’ with the ovens! Keep breakin’ ‘em! I’ll—“

“Aaaannnd that’s enough!” Orange pulls Green away from Lime as they continue to ramble about ‘gremlins breaking everything.’

“Now that we left… Lime…” Orange chirps, “We can actually go see the general manager!” Orange leads Green to a door tucked away in the back of the corridor.

Orange slowly opens the door.

“…eral manager Red, over and out,” the crewmate says, voice lacking emotion. They put the phone on the desk and spin their chair towards the two crewmates.

“Hey Orange! Is this the intern I highered?” The general manager asks, way more lighthearted than their previous demeanor, “They look exactly the same as the interview! Which… is certainly a choice,” they add on.

Green waves awkwardly.

“Anyway, I’m Red! The general manager! Of The Skeld. The best restaurant in Mira. The Skeld. And I’m the General Manager. Me. Red.”

Green and Orange stare at Red in silence.

Red was wearing a professional suit which was a dark, crimson red. They have a confident appearance—almost cocky—in which they seem to pride themselves in. Their smile, their jawline, their confiden- Green! Snap out of it! Dammit!

“Well… I’m Green! I hope to become General Manager one day!” Green doesn’t even try to hide their enthusiasm. Their body practically vibrating and their eyes shining bright as they look at their (newfound) idol!

“Well, you’ll be here in no time! Just do what they tell you…” they progressively got quieter during that last part, “But it’s okay.”

Green stares at Red, not entirely convinced.

“Well, I sti-”

“Red! Get your fucking ass out here!” Purple barges in the office.

“Oh hey! Purps! How’s it go-“

“These fuckass customers want to talk to you! Not Orange, you! So drag your lazy ass out here and I’ll deal with the consequences later!” Purple growls, walking towards Red and grabbing them by their hair.

Purple continues to yell at Red while they drag them out of the room. Green watches the scene with horror. Why would someone undermine the General Manager’s authority?

It was kinda hot though… no Green! Stop!

“They do this often. Pay them no mind, you’ll get used to it,” Orange rolls their eyes and walks out of the office, “To your left on the third door on the right is the changing room. Your uniform is in the 11th cubby.”

Green begins to walk where Orange directs.

“Have a wonderful first shift! I’ll be here if you need anything!”

Notes:

I’m literally Green and Purple. We are the same.
