3RD PERSON POV:
Jay Walker looked like a walking nightmare. Which would basically just be him in his worst stage of puberty at the time—pimples, acne, hair suddenly becoming wavier, and the fact that he couldn’t tell the difference between his new freckles coming in and his pimples.
Honestly, the only decent things in his life were his best friends, Kai Smith, Cole Brookstone, and Zane Julien. Though those were his main best friends for life, he did have his friends he was less close with, Nya Smith, Kai’s younger sister, and Lloyd Garmadon, both of whom he usually didn’t have time to talk with.
“Uggghh, did any of you guys get any sleep?” Kai groaned, his forehead pressed against his locker close.
“Why? Insomnia?” Cole asked, leaning to the locker beside him.
A louder groan followed Cole’s question along with an answer. “No, Nya’s keeping me up all night with her whining and crying about literally everything, female rights to why the AC’s busted again!”
“Oof, that’s rough, buddy.”
Both Kai and Cole barely looked like they were going through any sort of puberty in Jay’s honest opinion. While they did get pimples and acne and all, it was small, small enough for nobody to notice when one of them had a breakout.
“Well, Nya is experiencing some average signs of puberty and hormone effects in the typical 14 year old female.” Zane spoke up from Jay’s left.
“EEWWW!!! I don’t wanna hear about female hormones in my sister!!”
And if Jay thought Cole and Kai looked flawless, he had to take a second look at Zane. Zane was the kind of person who would go through puberty without even realizing it. He never had breakouts, acne, anything. No insane voice cracks due to voice change, nothing. It was like he was a robot or something who was programmed to never experience the p for pain in puberty.
“Whatever, guys let’s just get to class.”

By the time the group was in the 12th grade, they were basically just at rock bottom.
In school, they were known as the outcasts for not being a part of the ‘assigned groups’ that were typically in school—the jocks, the nerds, the weird kids, etc., they were just a group on their own.
Even though Cole was sure each of them fit at least one of the categories on their own, he knew it was because they always were never hanging out with the groups.
Kai was a huge jock and sports geek, he did basketball, soccer, even hockey and was good at it all.
Zane was exceptionally talented and was in the gifted and talented program in school.
Jay was an amazing inventor and could probably create a time machine out of scraps from the garbage dump.
Cole, in his opinion, was a great wrestler, boxer, and despite disliking the stage, was also a pretty good dancer and singer.
And although the four were the main outcasts, there were three other people who were cast out as outcasts.
Lloyd Garmadon was seen as a weirdo, but a decent guy. He wasn’t crazy talented in anything, just a decent dude, but he was bullied for liking ‘childish’ things like Disney or whatever.
Pixal Borg was honestly just as intelligent as Zane was. She was also in the gifted and talented program, but she was deemed an outcast for preferring to be alone 24/7. Though Cole was pretty confident she and Zane were dating.
Nya Smith, Kai’s younger sister, was very similar to Kai despite how much she denied it. She was extremely strong, did volleyball and basketball, but even though she was somewhat known in school, she was cast as an outcast for, just like Pixal, preferring to be alone.
“Guys,” Jay’s voice came out from the bench he was sprawled across behind Cole. “Do you think we’ll be friends forever?”
“Why? You’re not trying to tell us something, are you?” Kai asked, raising an eyebrow.
Jay’s calmness turned to immediate panic as he waved his hands. “No! No! I’m just asking.”
Kai narrowed his eyes, closely watching him before answering. “Well no, we’ve been friends since we were babies, dumbass.”
Zane frowned. “Kai, I advise you not to call Jay inappropriate words as it can hurt one’s feelings.”
“Whatever.”
“Anyways, no, I do not think we will ever break apart as a group.”
Cole sighed, leaning his head back. “Same.”
……
“By the way Kai,” Jay suddenly spoke up. “How’s Nya? She’s been skipping school for a while now.”
“Oh, yeah, it’s just…uh…health problems, y’know, Ignacia’s fruits are…um…experiencing…bad…health…?”
“Oh. OK, well I hope she gets better.” He replied, slightly upset, but believing him.
Little did they know, they would get closer than ever in only the next few months.
