Opposites Attract
[NagiReo Week 2026]
Day Four: Free Day [You and I Are Polar Opposites AU]
Nagi wasn't sure why Rei was so excited to see her bedroom. It was just a place to sleep and play games. But she wasn't about to deny her girlfriend. Even if she wanted to for some reason, it would be too much of a hassle, with how stubborn Rei was. The purple-haired girl was visibly disappointed by how sparse Nagi's room was. There was her messy bed, a small bookshelf with random manga volumes, and a desk with homework scattered across it. And, of course, Choki was sitting on the windowsill, looking cute as always.
"Shizu-chan, your room's so depressing!" Rei said. Nagi was briefly distracted by her earrings. They had little black bows on them.
"It is?" Nagi wasn't sure about that. It seemed fine to her.
"We need to get you more things," Rei decided. "Also, you should make your bed in the mornings! It'll look so much better."
"That's way too much work," Nagi complained. "I wanna be able to get cozy immediately when I take a nap."
"Is that something that happens that often?" Rei asked.
"Yeah? I nap every day. Doesn't Rei?" Nagi asked.
Rei was looking at her like she was crazy. "Why would I waste that much time sleeping when there's so much else I could be doing?"
It was times like this when Nagi was reminded just how different she and Rei were. But that was okay. They still loved each other, so they didn't need to agree on everything. It would probably be too boring if they did.
"Rei needs to relax more," Nagi said, plopping onto the ground and leaning against the bed. Summertime kind of sucked sometimes, because the heat meant she couldn't be wearing hoodies all the time. Rei had said her Bonobono t-shirt was cute, though. Yay.
"Shizu-chan needs to work more," Rei said playfully as she gracefully sat down next to Nagi.
They were close enough that Nagi could feel Rei's warmth. It was nice. Rei's arm brushed against Nagi's, and oh, okay, summer wasn't that bad after all, because Rei's skin was so smooth. Rei's black ruffled top was really cute, too. She always wore all sorts of nice clothes.
"Nooo," Nagi mumbled. "Rei works enough for both of us."
"Well, I am a super elite," Rei bragged. "But that doesn't mean you can get away with not doing anything!"
"Yes, Boss," Nagi said, resting her head on Rei's shoulder. Rei let out a cute little squeak when Nagi did that.
"G-Good girl," Rei said, and that made Nagi feel some type of way that she didn't know how to identify. She just nuzzled her face against Rei's neck and let out a pleased hum. "Shizu-chan, that tickles!"
"So does Rei's hair on my face, but I'm not complaining," Nagi said. Her girlfriend's hair was so silky and smooth and always smelled so nice.
"You better not complain, since you're the one shoving your face—" Rei suddenly cut off and shifted, making Nagi need to lift her head from the comfy Rei-shoulder-pillow. Rei leaned forward, her face suddenly very close to Nagi's, and her chest brushing against Nagi's chest, and whoa what was going on?
"Rei?" Nagi asked, but at the same time, Rei said, "Kitty!"
Oh. Nagi turned to the doorway, and there sure was her cat there. "That's Kumo."
"Hi, Kumo," Rei said in a sweet voice, crawling towards him and (unfortunately) away from Nagi. Well, at least she could admire her girlfriend's toned legs. "Aren't you the most beautiful thing I've ever seen?"
Rei held out her hand for Nagi's fluffy white cat to sniff. Kumo sniffed her and immediately nuzzled into her hand, eliciting an excited sound from Nagi's girlfriend. "Aw, Kumo likes me!"
"Of course he does," Nagi muttered. "Who wouldn't like Rei?"
But Rei's attention was still on the cat. "Such a sweet boy, aren't you? Oh, you're so soft!"
Nagi was glad that Rei was praising Kumo like he deserved, because he was obviously the best cat in the world. But did she need to be giving him that much attention when Nagi was right there?
"Rei," Nagi whined, and Rei glanced back at her.
"Is my treasure feeling left out?" Rei giggled. Nagi pouted at her. Rei smiled and said, "Just wait a moment, okay?"
"Okay," Nagi sighed.
Rei looked at Kumo again. "Kumo, I'm dating your mother, so I hope we can get along! I promise to take super good care of her and of you."
Nagi's pout melted away at those words. Kumo meowed at Rei, so he was in agreement, it seemed. "Rei, you need to introduce yourself to Choki, too."
"Choki?" Rei asked, looking around.
Nagi reluctantly stood up, since this was important. She leaned over her bed and gently picked Choki up off the windowsill. "Choki."
Rei gave Nagi that affectionate look that always made her feel all warm, and she rose up as well, coming to stand in front of Nagi and Choki. "Of course. Hello, Choki. I'm Rei. I'm lucky enough to be Nagi's girlfriend."
Nagi felt unbelievably pleased to have her girlfriend meeting her two companions. "Yay. Now Rei's met everyone important."
Nagi placed Choki back onto his usual spot, and then immediately gave Rei a hug.
"Shizu-chan?" Rei sounded surprised and a little flustered.
"Rei makes me happy," Nagi said.
Rei hesitantly placed her arms around Nagi. "Y-yeah? Well, good, because you make me happy too."
"Mm. Let's keep making each other happy, then," Nagi said.
"That sounds perfect to me, treasure," Rei said softly.
It didn't matter that Nagi and Rei were basically polar opposites. They still seemed to fit perfectly together, anyway. Nagi wasn't one to let people in, but she hadn't stood a chance against Rei. And now she knew that she never wanted to let her go.
