Chapter Text
Death is something Remy Lebeau never wanted to think about. But he always did. He had made peace with his death as that vile Sentinel pierced through his side. He just wished he got to say goodbye properly. Death was a void. Wait. If Death was absolute nothingness... how was he thinking? He had just been dead. He wasn't anymore. He felt pain. Searing hot pain. His death was so relaxing; a beautiful emptiness that he didnt want but he had to deal with. Now he was dragged out of it. Into hell.
Remy remembered bits and pieces of the last couple days. He was never fully there... always sitting in the backseat, trapped in his own mind.
His mind was an endless void while Apocalypse was in it. He wanted to get out, he wanted to see his family, his friends... But what if he didn't deserve it? Every horrible thought he ever had swirled around him as he scrambled to the corner of his mind. He was alive.. he was thinking but at what cost? To be used like a puppet?
Sometimes he'd be able to peak out from the shadows... see what his body was doing. He'd see Anna Marie—gorgeous as ever—and then see all these horrible things he was doing. He would never do that! He would never hurt Kurt like that, never do that to Rogue.
Every time he'd reach out through the darkness, he'd get dragged back.
Maybe this was hell. Maybe he didn't actually get dragged out of his resting place, God just forgot to give him his eternal suffering and now here it was.
But there was hope. As Remy sat there, in the echo chamber of every worst thought and action he ever did... he heard someone call out his name.
"Remy! If you can hear me, come back to me!"
Was that Charles?
Hope bled through his chest. Even if this was all a cruel trick he had to try. He ran towards the sound, reaching his hand out through the shadows. He didn't even know what he was reaching towards. He saw a vague outline of Charles. The veil of darkness hurt like hell... but he'd already been to hell and back. This was entirely worth it.
"Professor, help me! Please..."
A hand grasped onto his own. Charles had saved him. He was pulling him out. The professor. The one who pulled him out of his thief life and gave him a home, a family. More than he ever had with the thieves guild. He held onto that man, hugging him close. He had saved his life over and over and god, he didn't want to go back to that hell. Not again.
Good things never last for long. He was pulled away from Charles by Apocalypse. Honestly, Remy was hardly listening, he was just terrified that he was going to be let go again. And he was.
He was sucked back into his prison.
"No!" He yelled, falling to his knees. The despair was cut short by a glowing yellow hand reaching through the void. "Anna?" He whispered. He grasped the hand tight as it pulled him out.
It was her. His eyes lit up. She was so beautiful, seeing her with his own eyes; Not through death's. He reached out, and he was so close... but death was never that easy. Eyes flashed in his mind. His eyes. Apocalypse.
Rogue hadn't freed him. Not completely. He was back in his own prison, only now he wasn't forced to watch what Apocalypse was doing through his eyes.
At least now he knew that Rogue was there, coming to his rescue somehow.
