Work Text:
After Jinshi and his soldiers were fighting with the Shi-Clan soldiers, he had a short moment were he could talk to Lihaku. Jinshi explained that they had to get the daughter of the grand strategist- Lakan out there and after hearing that Lihaku agreed to "If you won’t safe her, you have a new political enemy.“ Jinshi just said " I guess you‘re right.“
So now Jinshi was in the stronghold, searching for Maomao. He went from room to room and finally smashed the door to the room where Maomao was in. He was so glad too see her again but had a surprised look on his face as he saw her sleeping on a bed with other children from the Shi-Clan.
But as he stepped more and more towards the bed, he realized that none of them were breathing. A shiver went down his spine, but he was sure he was just hallucinating or something, because of the amount of sleep he had gotten over the last weeks.
So he called after Lihaku as he pulled Maomao from the bed to the floor so they could check if she really wasn‘t breathing. Which she is obviously doing, Jinshi thought or atleast hoped. But after the confirmation that they are dead including Maomao, Jinshi had no time to grief, because he had to find Shishou and Loulan.

After the Shi- Clan fell Jinshi had just one thing in mind, which was to see Maomao. He had to beg Gaoshun to see her and finally he saw her as he entered the tent with the corpses. The realization of Maomao’s death had hit him in the moment were he saw her face for the first time clearly. He fell to his knees, thinking he was going to vomit.
It took him about 30 minutes to calm himself down. Not that he wasn’t still sobbing but atleast he could breathe normally again. Then he analyzed her face and her current state. Noticing the bruises on her neck. The blood on her robe didn‘t pass past him and he felt so much anger.
So much.
So much that he wanted to kill every person who hurt her.
He wanted revenge.
He wanted so much at this point. He wanted to tell Maomao about his feelings. He wanted to marry her. He wanted to live a carefree life, without their statuses.
But now it was to late. He realized that he will never get a life with the love of his life.
The only thing that came to his mind was to hold her close.
He took her in his arms and stood up, walked out of the tent and passed Gaoshun by saying "I‘ll take her to my tent. You can come with me if you want to say your last goodbye’s.“ with a tone that didn‘t allowed discussion.
Arriving at his tent he laid her carefully onto his bed and pulled the blanket to her chest. Then he sat besides her on the bed. Gaoshun stood behind him and had a face of a father, who lost his daughter.
His eyes were switching between different points of her face and neck. He really wanted to see what the bruise on her neck was and decided, that it would probably be better if he would let things be, the way they are. It would just bring more hurt to his heart, to see her hurt. His heart ached and only then he realized that tears were welling out of his eyes again.
After all this crying , he couldn’t cry anymore, he thought that all his tears were used up and Gaoshun put a supportive hand on his shoulder.
His head laid on her chest, but then he heard a heartbeat. A really shallow one, but it was there. He looked up and found Maomao stirring, it was like she was just sleeping. He rose abruptly to his knees on the bed and began to look at Gaoshun in while he was shaking her.
Gaoshun realized in a millisecond what was probably happening and the look on his face was priceless. Then he called for the doctor. After some check ups they realized, the kids from the shi clan who also died, weren’t so dead after all.
Suirei shared her thoughts about the medicine they took and that they will probably be capable of speaking in 6 hours again.
Jinshi waited.
First hour. Passed.
Second hour. Passed.
Third hour. Passed.
Fourth hour. Passed.
Fifth hour. Passed.
Sixth hour. Passed.
Finally Jinshi stepped into the tent again and found Maomao sitting upright. He let out a sob and run to her. He practically jumped on her and hugged her so thightly, that she could have sworn she heard her ribs cracking.
„Maomao, I‘m so happy that your are alive, really. You can’t imagine how scared I was!“
„So first of all hello, second of all could you please get off of me? And third of all why are you crying?“ Maoamo asked clearly irritated.
"Maomao what happened? We thought you were dead! I was so scared that I would never see you again! I‘m so glad!" But instead of letting her go, he only hold her tighter.
"Shisui… I mean Loulan gave me the medicine, that is making people look like they’re dead, but are really not. And I‘m also happy to be back." Maomao said with a tired smile.
"What is this bruise on your neck?" Jinshi asked as if the bruise itself offended him.
"Shenmei, she did this to me. A crazy old hag." Maomao muttered.
"Not anymore"
At first Maomao started laughing and Jinshi didn’t even know why, but just looking at her made him laugh.
This moment let them both forget the last few weeks and for this short moment the world belonged to them.
