Work Text:
The girl who hops more than even a sparrow, who sings louder than everyone.
Claire likes watching this particular bird, but having it notice her watching it would be unbearable. She wouldn't dare cause the opaque cell she has wrapped around it be something visible. Of course, sometimes it is difficult to say whom this cage surrounds.
The birdie merely follows her and Claire avoids it like a cat that isn't hungry. Alas, if it opens its wings to fly away, Claire will pounce like a natural hunter.
Why would it ever fly away though?
Who else would this bird give its love to when the only songs it has composed sing her name? It would be so helpless, without someone like her to love.
So maybe the cage does not prevent freedom. Maybe that was never in question.
"I look particularly beautiful today, don't you think?" Of course, the brunette's smile rose proud when she noticed Claire's gaze. For reasons like these, she avoids those ruby eyes. It's akin to rewarding a disobedient puppy.
"Your mind offers interesting conclusions."
She wraps a warm palm around her teacup or whatever, as she brings it to her mouth.
"Well you sure didn't deny it! Awwh Miss Claire~" The silly girl sings, with that colorful voice that draws excessive colors from the light.
Claire barely spits her drink.
"The answer was obvious!" She throws the cup back onto the table with a hard but gentle manner so that it doesn't break, even if she has the money to buy hundreds if not millions more.
The brunette simply smiles and sings cheerfully in a light tone as she refills the cup, paying no attention at all to Claire's red cheeks and not even trying to comfort her. Rae accepts the little victory and stuffs it close to her heart, while Claire feels that she is being taken advantage of.
She sighs at the end. If this commoner were anything like a little puppy, things would be easier. But Rae, who seems to have already crossed the skies, has planted her legs back on earth only for one sole reason. Because the sun wasn't up there, it was down here all along
