“Sonicc!” Amy ran quite literally as fast as she could, the second she says his name even from far away, he’d always run. Amy hadn't chased after Sonic in quite a long time, she tried to grow out of that habit as she thought it was childish but old habits do come back and she liked a good chase, so did Sonic.
As soon as she saw Sonic’s jump in surprise, Amy had immediately caught up to him before he could run off and hugged him. “Woah, hey Amy—! Do you always gotta catch me?” This time, Sonic didn't try running away, Infact, he hugged Amy back. Looking up, Amy saw him smirking, he still looked tense but hey, this was progress to her.
“Of course I do!” Amy let go of Sonic and decided to hold his hands instead. Amy tried to regain her breath before speaking, one day she swears she might pass out from all that running. “You always run away from me and you’re too fast to keep running after so I try to catch you before you run off!”
“What can I say, I’m just a fast hedgehog.” Sonic shrugged.
Amy crossed her arms, she couldn't deny how much he got on her nerves sometimes. “Sonic, I'm trying to be serious here!”
Sonic’s smirk went away and he rubbed the back of his head. “Sorry, Ames. Sometimes you just take me by surprise. I'm not scared or anything, you’re just really affectionate. Not that that’s a bad thing.”
“That’s why I tried to cut the habit out.” Amy let her arms go down to her sides before she continued her speech. “When I was younger I had no care in the world. I just knew that you were my hero and I didn't want to stick to my boring city life. I wanted to be by your side and do my best to protect others and show them the love they deserved even if they were enemies. I knew what everyone was thinking and saying, I’ve seen articles calling me childish, wondering if I was some weird stalker. So I stopped.”
Amy’s words had Sonic feeling a bit dumbfounded, one of his major beliefs is just living free and doing what he loves: adventuring, so he never cared about the opinion of others, the journalists, news reporters or whatever had no idea how good his life was or the life of his friends were.
He couldn't imagine how Amy must have felt having to grow up so fast just to please the opinions of others.
“Amy...For what it's worth, I never thought of you as childish or weird. I mean, I've got the heart of a boy!” Sonic wrapped an arm around the back of Amy's neck and patted her left shoulder with a smile. “If I had the heart of a responsible, stable, grown adult..I wouldn't be running away from you so much nor would I still be running after Eggman. I’d be some boring old man complaining about his day job or something. I just get goosebumps at the thought of being mature! Could you imagine me at 35!?”
Amy smiled, she really shouldn't have taken the public's opinion so seriously knowing how Sonic feelings. It's weird how she can seem so energetic and share her love with others when they're down and still manage to bottle up her own emotions. “Sonic...that’s...really thoughtful actually. I..thank you.”
“No need to thank me.” he placed his right hand on his hip. “I might as well be honest with you, ever since I was younger I guess all that affection kind’ve made me feel shy since I wasn't sure how to handle how hyper you used to be, I didn't know if should've hugged you back or run off but now I'm older and in my eyes, anyone who wants to get with me should also catch up with me. Somehow, you're one of the few people who can catch up to me even without superspeed.”
Amy should've guessed Sonic would treat this like a game. Though the thing about him being shy was honestly kinda cute, her face lit up and she recognizes the fact she may have been blushing but that's not something she's worried about. “Awwh, you feel shy?” Amy could cry of joy.
Sonic’s face turned to surprise as he realized what he had just said. Amy wouldn't let him hear the end of it... neither would anybody else. Oh lord...“yuhhh-bbh-” was he even speaking English anymore?
“Sonic?” Amy blinked
“Gotta go, ovens on!” last thing Amy was a blur of blue running off and a cloud of dust..some dirt hit her face.
“SONICC!” Amy shouted, sighing with defeat she was about to go back home but pulled out her phone before setting off.
“sooo..if your partner has to be able to catch up with you..does that mean I've got a date with you Friday night?”
Amy felt satisfied with that text and sent it. She began walking home but almost in an instant she got a new message from Sonic. At least he wasn't a slow responder.
“You know it.”
Amy’s face lit up once more and she practically screeched with joy while jumping up and down.
