Work Text:
“Cheng Xiaoshi, where are we going?”
“Uhhhh…” Cheng Xiaoshi peers over his shoulder but doesn't stop his stride. “Give it a bit, please?”
Lu Guang sighs, faltering when Cheng Xiaoshi slides his hand down from Lu Guang's shoulder to his chest. He pushes ever so lightly, and yet Lu Guang continues to oblige and walk backwards.
“You could've done this when there was a wall behind me,” Lu Guang remarks. His partner smiles sheepishly.
“...Yeah,” Cheng Xiaoshi admit. “I didn't really plan this through.”
The sunroom's green couch finally comes into view in his peripheral vision. Lu Guang stops beside it, the firm wall coming into contact with his back.
“Hi,” Cheng Xiaoshi says innocently. His expression radiates excitement and shyness. The uncharacteristic combination almost makes Lu Guang stop breathing completely.
Lu Guang covers the hand placed atop his chest. Warmth seeps through his palms.
“So,” he starts. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
“Be romantic,” Cheng Xiaoshi whispers cheekily. “Is it working?”
Yes.
“No.”
Cheng Xiaoshi laughs softly and leans in closer.
Much, much closer.
His mint-scented breath grazes Lu Guang's nose. Playful, gentle, familiar eyes stare back. It makes Lu Guang's heartbeat quicken an absurd amount. He really hopes Cheng Xiaoshi can't hear it.
From this distance, Lu Guang can practically count every eyelash on Cheng Xiaoshi's face. He can see every small emotion and every minuscule movement.
Lu Guang never wants to move again.
“Where'd you get this idea?” Lu Guang asks, proud of his voice for working.
“My brilliant brain,” Cheng Xiaoshi says happily. “In the front room. About five minutes ago.”
“Brilliant?” Lu Guang questions.
“You're right, I need a better word.” Cheng Xiaoshi pretends to think it over, eyebrows furrowing adorably. “Smart? Fantastic? Utterly charming and amazing?”
Before Lu Guang can come up with a good retort (because smart? Really?), Cheng Xiaoshi tips forward and kisses him.
And then nothing in the world exists but Cheng Xiaoshi.
Lu Guang cups Cheng Xiaoshi's jaw, skin warm to the touch, and wraps an arm around his waist. Cheng Xiaoshi leans closer into his chest, content and entirely trusting. The contact makes Lu Guang feel dizzy.
Lu Guang presses deeper into the tender kiss, delighted when it earns a small noise of surprise. Under his palm, Cheng Xiaoshi's pulse thrums strongly. It's fast. And alive. And so real.
Then it ends all too soon. Cheng Xiaoshi pulls back just by a fraction, eyes bright and ecstatic. A smile brushes Lu Guang's lips as his partner begins to pull away further.
“See?” Cheng Xiaoshi says, wiggling his eyebrows stupidly. “Romantic.”
He turns to step away completely, so Lu Guang does the only logical thing. He grabs a fistful of Cheng Xiaoshi's shirt and switches their position.
Cheng Xiaoshi yelps, back hitting the wall lightly, and finally shuts up when Lu Guang returns the kiss.
And he doesn't do it nearly as slowly.
Lu Guang weaves his hand into dark hair, drowning out Cheng Xiaoshi's soft, breathless noises. He holds Cheng Xiaoshi close so not even a sliver of air can pass between them.
Heat sparks at every touch, sharp and yet completely fond. Their lips part just barely before coming back together. It's invigorating and so, so good. Lu Guang isn't sure if he'll be able to stop. Does he honestly have to?
Lu Guang trails a feather-light hand down Cheng Xiaoshi's side. Cheng Xiaoshi shivers beneath him and somehow presses even closer.
Distantly, the sounds of the still-moving world flow into the studio. A faint reminder that time hasn't stopped, that it will never stop just for them.
But Lu Guang doesn't care. Time doesn't need to stop. He just needs to have Cheng Xiaoshi with him as it continues.
Reluctantly, Lu Guang pulls back. The sight of Cheng Xiaoshi, flushed pink and short-circuited, is the only thing that makes stopping the embrace worth it. His partner's lips are red and parted, shirt slightly wrinkled, and expression utterly undone.
Beautiful.
Lu Guang stares back, challenging. “Is that romantic enough?”
…
Cheng Xiaoshi sways, blinks, then shakes his head in disbelief and pounces.
Lu Guang almost falls back from the added weight. His feet move clumsily, and he hugs Cheng Xiaoshi back by pure instinct.
“Lu Guang,” Cheng Xiaoshi mumbles into his ear. “That was so. Hot. I mean… I can't even comprehend…”
He moves to look Lu Guang directly in the eye as if offended. “You could've done that this entire time?!”
Lu Guang's ears burn as the adrenaline fades from his system. He turns away to examine the couch dutifully.
Suddenly, Cheng Xiaoshi grabs his wrist and tugs him to the side.
“Cheng Xiaoshi-?”
“We're going upstairs,” Cheng Xiaoshi announces. He glances back and laughs at Lu Guang's face, which is probably embarrassingly bright red, and explains, “So that no one looks through the windows. Please, you have to kiss me again!”
Oh. Well… he has no objections to that.
Lu Guang allows Cheng Xiaoshi to drag him up the staircase to the hall, his partner giggling playfully the whole way there.
