Chapter Text
Nagi loved Reo. A universal truth.
It had been this way ever since their first meeting. They met on a secluded staircase in their first year of highschool, pure coincidence. Reo witnessed Nagi's extraordinary football potential and chose him. The features on Reo's beautiful face lit up by the setting sun's rays as he extended his hand to Nagi, promised him a life in which he would never be bored again. And Nagi fell for someone for the first time in his life.
It wasn't easy to date Reo, though. He was way too popular for Nagi's liking.
People never seemed to understand and accept that ever since Nagi came around Reo would not have so much time for them anymore. Why did all of those girls still try to approach him? Of course Reo was very handsome, funny, kind and shined brighter than any star he had ever seen. He didn't even look up at the sky anymore, it was too much of a pain. He would only do it if Reo wanted to. Besides, the only star that mattered to him was always right there with him.
Right, back to the point.
Nagi understood why they would want to have Reo's attention, though he wondered why they were still trying. Reo always turns them down politely anyway, since he has Nagi of course. He didn't need anyone else, especially some girl who would never know him the way Nagi knew him. Maybe it sounded a little possesive but it was true. After all Nagi and Reo were going to play soccer together forever and Nagi would never let Reo go. Since some people still don't get that and forget that Nagi's even there, he would just have to keep show them that Reo's his, even if it would be a hassle. He doesn't mind if it's for Reo's sake.
And so he might have been a little too clingy and Reo called him out on it. Reo always overthinks and worries about things that are boring annoyances so Nagi could be careful if that was what Reo wanted. He was sure it was because it would make a controversy for him and Nagi understood that. Still, he didn't get why Reo sometimes acted as if they weren't together together, even when they were alone and there was no one to judge them. Or bother them.
"Nagi, you have to stop doing that or people might get the wrong idea." Reo said as Nagi buried his head even lower down Reo's upper body, his arms draped over Reo's shoulders and head buried in his neck.
It wasn't anything unusual, actually he couldn't remember the last time he went to classes on his own. Or you know, without touching Reo in the process.
"I don't really care about what they think. I just want to spend more time with Reo."
Would that be so bad if people saw? Reo belonged to Nagi anyway. It would make his life easier if they knew. Maybe the admirators would finally back off.
"I want to spend my time with you too..." Reo said passionately, but he looked ...hurt? as he was thinking of what to say next. Nagi didn't like that look on him.
"...but girls will never approach you if you are always with me. I wouldn't want to set you back."
"Why would I want to be with anyone other than Reo? Other people are a hassle. Does Reo want to abandon me?"
That might have been a little dramatic, but Nagi was really confused. Why did Reo think he would want to spend time with some girls he didn't even know instead of the only person who has ever made his life enjoyable and genuinelly cared?
"What? Of course not, you know I care about you Nagi. You are literally my best friend."
Nagi felt kind of dissapointed when he heard those words. He knew that Reo was being careful, but still. Wasn't Reo supposed to call him his boyfriend at least sometimes? Nagi wasn't an expert in relationships or feelings but he knew that much.
Reo seemed conflicted when he said that, his hauntingly beautiful smile turned into the fake one he forced himself to wear whenever he was sad. It made Nagi's skin crawl.
"Then can Reo stay with me forever?" Nagi said as they finally got to their desks in the back of the class.
He hated that he had to break away from Reo, but he sat down on the chair and slumped on the desk, laying his head against it. He turned it sligthly so he could look at Reo, though.
When Nagi saw the sun on Reo's face and violet hair he couldn't keep his feelings in anymore. He had to say something, so he said the first thing that came to his mind except I love you, what can I even do but think of you? He was pretty sure that Reo would run away if he did say that.
Asking him to stay forever was less commitual, right?
Even though they were dating, they never explicitly said I love you to each other before. Reo never mentioned it and Nagi was okay with it as long as he could stay by Reo's side. Reo was often flustered and nervous about things like that so Nagi didn't push him. He would never want to make Reo uncomfortable.
"I uh- Yes Nagi, I can." he stuttered a bit and bit his lip nervously. Yes, that was it, Reo was back to normal. Nagi didn't mess up.
"Why is Reo so red all of a sudden? Does Reo have a fever?"
Nagi was genuinelly worried. He placed his hand on Reo's forehead. It wasn't that warm, but he was still concerned since Reo did tend to turn red more and more often these days. Maybe Nagi should take him to a doctor? Knowing Reo, he propably overworked himself again.
"I'm fine, I'm fine! Don't worry about it."
The blush that covered Reo's face got even worse, now that it reached all the way up to his ears. Nagi didn't really notice though, because he was starting to doze off. It wasn't that the converstion was boring him, of course not. Reo's voice was so nice and calming that it made him sleepy.
"Hey, Nagi?" He could barely hear Reo over the noise of the busy classroom but he heard the dead seriousness in his voice so he did his best to focus.
"Mhm-"
How was he supposed to get through classes today if he was so sleepy already? He wanted to go home and play video games with Reo already. Or take a nap together like they usually did. Preferably in his bed.
"You will never leave me either, right?"
Nagi didn't expect that question. He thought that it was a given and that Reo knew that Nagi's world used to be all flat and colorless without him. That it revolved around him. He didn't even know if he could live without him anymore. Someone would have to be quite stupid to abandon a person like Reo.
"Yeah. I'll do anything Reo wants me to do."
He wasn't sure if he was saying that to the Reo that appeared in his half-asleep dream or the present one. It was true no matter the context. A miracle would have to happen for that to change.
"Promise?"
Nagi took Reo's hand in his own, intertwining their fingers. Reo squeezed his hand back.
"Promise."
