Pearl warped back into the house after finishing up a lesson on computer technology, only to see Lapis sitting on the couch with a big grin on her face. How long had she been there for? She dismissed the thought as she smiled in return, sitting down next to the blue gem. Pearl blushed before softly giving her a kiss on the cheek, glad that she was able to spend some time with her now that her responsibilities were over for the day.
“Painting class ended early, I assume?” Pearl asked, raising one brow. After her inquiry she realized that her jacket was messed up, the little hood — is that what people called it? — was flat. With a swift motion she popped the flaps of fabric back up, creating the iconic look of a leather jacket.
“Yeah, everyone got done painting quickly so there was nothing else for me to really do — did you just adjust your jacket?”
“Yes! What about it?” Pearl asked, some defensiveness in her tone. She just liked how it looked this way! Did she not like it?
“Nothing…I just think it’s cute.” Lapis responded, lying down and patting the spot next to her. With Greg doing repairs to the van outside and the other gems still preoccupied with Little Homeworld, she believed some cuddle time was warranted.
Pearl quickly laid down next to her, resting her chin on her chest so that she could admire Lapis’ face. Stars, she’s beautiful..it didn’t seem like she had time to admire that often. Their time spent together was so limited! She wasn’t taking care of Steven and trying to save the world from the Diamonds anymore, but her classes seemed to take so much of her time. She loved it, of course…but not seeing Lapis hurt.
“Maybe I should quit teaching so I can just spend all of my time with you.” Pearl spoke with a chuckle, putting loose tufts of Lapis’ hair behind her ear. Her hair was so soft..she looked up at her and waited her response, studying her facial expression to see how she felt about her suggestion of quitting. From the look of it, though, not great.
“What?? No! No, you shouldn’t quit teaching. I can tell how much you love teaching gems about human technology…what was today’s lesson, computers? Not important…anyway, you shouldn’t give up something you love just to spend more time with me. We’re both busy, that’s just how it is. That doesn’t mean we’ll never spend time together though — what are we doing right now??” Lapis spoke, not being angry with her. She just wanted her to enjoy her passion for teaching and never wanted to hold her back from that. She knew Pearl wouldn’t want her to quit painting classes, so the whole idea seemed absurd — she hoped she was joking.
“Well, true…I just hate that our time together is so limited.” Pearl responded, blushing softly from embarrassment. The suggestion really was ridiculous, but could Lapis blame her for just wanting some more time? She sighed softly, resting her head in the crook of Lapis’ neck. It had suddenly started to rain softly, the raindrops pattering on the windows being calming to her. She relaxed before looking up at Lapis, meeting her gaze.
“I know you do…but let’s just enjoy the time we do have together instead of thinking about wanting more.” Lapis suggested before kissing Pearl softly on the lips, leaning into it. When she pulled away she smiled, moving her attention to the ceiling and the soothing sound of the rainfall.
“It really is peaceful, isn’t it..” Lapis asked, only to realize that Pearl had fallen asleep beside her. They didn’t need it, of course, but she could tell that it would help her relax after having such a busy day. With a smile she returned her attention back to the rain, being happier than ever.
