Chapter 1: first signs

Chapter Text

Soft sunlight entered their bedroom, tingling onto Huaisang’s face. He frowned, and automatically reached for the next side of bed. It was empty. Almost in his liking unexpectedly empty, since his omega was always snuggling into his arms, in his slumber. Only what was left, was Wen Ning’s vanilla and mint scent, with milky accents. Swiftly, he changed his position, and listened to sense where his husband went. Muted sounds of vomiting, made him approach their bathroom.

“A-Ning? Love?” He knocked gently, leaning onto the white door. Retching lasted for a few seconds, before it went quiet. “Love, can I enter?” Only thing that answered him, was the soft mumble. Huaisang entered the bathroom, and sighed softly. Wen Ning was knelling in front of their toilet, still wearing Alpha’s oversized jumper. Slowly sat behind him, and rubbed his back soothingly. “There you go…”

It was not so long since they discovered that under Wen Ning’s heart, is blooming their little one. More like it was impossible for them to not have any children, since Ning’s Alpha couldn’t leave him alone for too long. It was as if every step was watched by Huaisang.

Walk to the kitchen?

Huaisang always found a way to have at least one excuse, to accompany his husband.

They needed to do groceries?

Huaisang was already preparing to go with him.

Wen Ning was sick?

Huaisang was already calling to his work, that he won’t be there, even though he was the boss and no one would even argue with him about it.

Every small second without his A-Ning, was unbearable.

“A-Sang… You don’t need to do all of this.” He whined slightly, and turned his dark eyes at his husband. “I know I am pregnant, but you don’t have to-”

“Wen Ning.” It was the first time probably, when he heard his husband calling him by his whole name, with that rough and stern voice. “Don’t say nonsense like that. You are my omega. And my husband. It’s my duty to take care of you, especially in your state.” He stroked his hair, as if being a little too stern towards him was uneasy for him. All he ever wanted to do, was to hold him close and pretend them both from the dangerous world. Even if the most dangerous thing that could affect him, and their little jade was their kitchen. Or anything else, that would seem harmless but that had abilities to betraying A-Ning.

“A-Sangggg” Ning grumbled.

“Don’t please… You know I am weak when you-”

In that moment Huaisang’s eyes collided with those dark eyes stare — the most risky stare, his husband has to use.

“You… Ughh fine. My husband is killing me, how cruel.” He puffed his lips. Dramatically he laid onto their bathroom’s tiles, making Omega laugh. His free hand covered his own face, while his heart was melting, listening to this beautiful tune.

His Omega…

“You are so dramatic for an Alpha, my love.”

“And you are cruel for your husband. Who let you be so cute, huh?”

“No one.”

“Exactly.”

“So… About the doctor’s appointment” Huaisang opened to Wen Ning, while putting some toasts on the plate for their breakfast. “I thought about making an appointment in the Qinghe Hospital…”

Wen Ning looked at him with frowned eyebrows. It seemed weird, to hear that from Huaisang. They were always going to do some check ups or other medical matters at the nearest hospital — Gusu Hospital. So now, when it came to their baby, and pregnancy, he thought it will be the same. But apparently, his husband has other opinion.

“Huh? Why? Is something wrong with the one we always go to?” He drank his tea from cup, he got from his best friend Wei Wuxian — with some cheeky slogans.

“I… Just I think it will be better choice.” Huaisang shrugged his arms.

“But it’s far away from our flat.” He noticed.

“I can drive you, as always.”

“A-Sang, you are doing it again” Ning sighed deeply, as his hand landed on his still flat stomach, without his noticing. But his husband still caught that, slightly blushing at this action.

“I am doing what?”

“You can’t avoid my sister all the time.”

Small frown appeared on Huaisang’s face, and in result he snapped shut his mouth. Well, that hit close. The possible reason behind all of this was that Wen Qing, Wen Ning’s sister works at the Gush Hospital. She and Huaisang had quite neutral relationship, they both wanting it to be at least bearable for sake of Ning. It didn’t stop them from arguing from time to time, or Qing observing Huaisang to be sure he was not going to hurt her little brother.

“I am not avoiding her… Just…”

“Just what, my love?” Wen Ning raised an eyebrow.

“She is scary.” Huaisang blurted out.

“Scary? Huaisang… Don’t tell me you are scared of my sister. She would never hurt you, or anyone else. She is a doctor.” He noticed.

“That doesn’t mean she can’t chase me with a spade.” At these words, Ning blinked once. And second time. As if his mind was trying to register what nonsense is his husband talking about. After a few seconds, he burst into laugh. “Don’t laugh at me, A-Ning… I am serious.”

“Sorry love, but it’s more possible that Wei Ying will let out his and Lan Wangji’s rabbits to eat you.”

“A-Ninggg!”
