Work Text:

“you’re not funny.”

a-na knows that juun’s humor revolves around her stoic and sarcastic remarks. and she knows that juun doesn’t mean the “rude” things she says. they’ve always teased each other, bickered, but today, this day, it stings.

“excuse me?” a-na clicks her tongue in annoyance, stepping closer to the shorter girl.

maybe it’s because she’s hurt. maybe it’s just an off day. maybe it’s because she’s found out recently that the feelings she’s held for the other girl were past a platonic sense and meant more.

juun smiles at the reaction, clear that she’s enjoying this.

“you heard me.”

a-na dislikes the way her heart flips upon seeing that. “you must be mistaken, i am funny.”

juun tilts her head slightly. “oh really? i’m not laughing.”

“i don’t recall being funny relating to impressing you, kim juun.”

“yet you’re here, caring so much about what i have to say.”

a-na rolls her eyes so hard that she turns around, back facing juun. the brunette shrugs.

“whatever, you’re laughing at my misery and that’s good enough.”

“yuna, you know i’m joking," the blue-haired clarifies.

“sure,” it sounds harsher than intended and she flinches at that. juun notices. she always does.

“hey,” her hand goes up to rest on a-na’s shoulder. it’s supposed to feel grounding, instead it makes her want to flee. “are you okay?”

“yeah,” she says, but her body betrays her as she pulls away too quick to be natural. “i’m fine.”

juun’s brows furrow, but before she can say anything, a-na has already fled away.

-

juun knows when to leave someone alone. everybody has their off days, even the brightest people do. usually, she would let the day go by and try again the next day to make amends. but for some reason, she can’t shake off the interaction with a-na with ease. the rest of the day, juun was aware how a-na backed off, existing around her rather than with. it bothered her how bothered she felt, even more bothersome not knowing why she cared so much. had it been any other member, she’d look toward the next day, but with a-na, it was different.

i need to talk with her, she decides.

it isn’t until they’re back in the dorms that juun takes the opportunity to sought out a-na. it isn’t hard, especially when she ran into stella leaving her dorm to hang out with juun’s dorm members. it was an easy slide in, like a quick switch. juun makes her way towards a-na and stella’s shared room, knocking on the door.

“yuna, it’s juun.”

there’s a pause before she can hear rustling on the other side of the door—bed sheets maybe—before the soft patter of footsteps getting closer until the lock clicks open. the door opens and there she is. a-na. “come in.”

juun follows a-na to her bed, staying standing as she watches the other girl sit. it’s not that late in the night yet, but the lack of lighting makes it easier for conversations to flow. the way a-na stares up at juun is quickly filed away as a-na speaks. “what’s up?”

they’ve had heart-to-hearts before, but for some reason, juun hesitates.

“did i.. do something?”

“what do you mean?”

“earlier, you left before i could say anything else.”

a-na shifts slightly, averting her gaze.

“well, there wasn’t much to say.”

juun doesn’t miss it. she presses on. “there was, though. you avoided me afterward.”

“juun, it’s nothing.” she says, exasperated.

juun knows it’s a lie. “it’s not nothing. i know you. what’s wrong?”

a-na takes a moment to close her eyes. “i think i just..”

she sighs, “got my feelings hurt.”

now i understand, juun thinks.

“was it what i said?

-that you aren’t funny?”

a-na winces at the statement, looking down.

ugh.. yeah,

-it’s embarrassing, isn’t it?”

juun shakes her head, pulling a-na into her arms.

“no. you can’t control the weight of something; you just feel it.

i’m sorry, yuna.”

a-na scoffs, chuckling. “hey, you don’t need to apologize. i’m over it already.”

“okay, then..” pulling away, she meets her eyes.

“how can i make it up to you?”

“make it up to me?”

“i want to make it up to you. let me.”

searching, her hands find the other girl's.

“tell me,” she persists. who’s a-na to resist her?

for some reason, the night fuels a-na’s courage. it might be because she’s tired, or because she’s bored, but she lets the words slip. “kiss me.” a-na smiles at the easy delivery, though her feelings are quivering in her chest.

“what?” juun asks, but more-so in confirmation rather than confusion.

the younger girl traces her hand with her thumb, averting her eyes for a second before managing her response.

“i said,

kiss me.”

it became silent in the dorm room, the aircon filling the atmosphere as juun went into thought, closing her eyes. once she opened them to meet the other’s, she nodded.

“okay.”

with her other hand, the older slowly cradled a-na’s cheek. the younger girl stared at her with careful eyes, trying to sense if there was any joke behind the statement. there wasn’t.

then juun leaned in. a-na held her breath, closing her eyes as she expected a kiss. a soft contact to her head was what she was met with instead. a kiss, but not what she wanted. she should’ve clarified.

juun pulled back to look at a-na, closer than before. “was that right?”

the caring look in her eyes made a-na want to curse at herself for thinking that juun would’ve kissed her where she wanted just like that. of course not. how would she even know?

she can’t help herself from pouting, though.

“no,” juun’s chest tightened in disappointment before a-na whispers:

“i want you to kiss me.” juun notices this time how a-na’s eyes flickered to her lips then back up at her.

oh.

oh.

it takes a moment for juun to process the request. a-na takes the silence as a rejection.

“just forget it-“ she starts, turning her head away and releasing juun’s hand. but juun without hesitating cups a-na’s face and leans in.

juun pulls away after a few seconds, staring into the girl’s brown eyes in the dark. it’s clear that a-na’s flustered and shocked, her cheeks burning under her palms. as breaths fill the silence, something in the back of her mind—restraint maybe—snaps. she delves back in. this time, a-na kisses back, her hands trailing up her collarbone to the back of her neck.

the realization of feelings sink in as kisses multiply, desperation and yearning mixing as the kisses deepen. a-na makes a sound that juun swallows wholeheartedly, consumed by the feeling of her mouth against hers. a-na’s tongue swipes at juun’s lower lip, taking her chance when juun’s hands cradle her head to pull her closer.

the aircon buzzes in the background as they move, words being replaced with kisses and wandering hands.

a-na pulls away slowly, their breaths intermingling. a-na stares up at juun. juun stares back, speechless at how even in the dark, a-na’s features are so prominent and beautiful. she also notes how a-na’s kiss-swollen lips are tempting to kiss many more times and files it away in her mind. instead, she opts to kneel in between a-na’s legs and finds solace in the crook of a-na’s neck as her arms wrap around her waist.

“i think..” she starts, chuckling softly, “i’ve wanted this more than i knew i did.”

“me too,” a-na adds, now playing with her hair.

“was this your plan all along? to get me to kiss you tonight?” juun says, a teasing lilt in her voice.

“you came here on your own accord,” a-na responds strictly. “and you said you’d do anything to make it up to me.”

“that’s true,” juun pulls back to look at up at her.“have i made it up to you now?”

“yeah,” then in a quiet manner:

“but.. maybe another kiss or two to make sure?”

juun giggles.

“you’re funny,” then she’s leaning in again.
