Work Text:

Once upon a time, there lived a lonely Epic Noggin on Earth Island. Despite being there for so long, he felt as if no monster truly understood his nature. Epic Noggin lacked the courage to sail, so he instead loved to indulge himself in books about the world out there.

One day, as he was sitting near the crag of the colossal, he witnessed brilliant bursts of color that masked over the sweltering clouds of Earth Island. Epic Noggin was captivated, for he had never seen anything like it.

The very catalyst was Whiz-Bang, who greeted him with a bright smile. The prismatic monster said that he was in duty of opening other monsters eyes to beautiful sights for Sky-Painting, but Epic Noggin had shied away before they could continue their conversation.

After Whiz-bang departed from the Earth Island and returned to the Seasonal Shanty, he pondered about the quiet monster they’d seen.

In this world, what monster does not want to sing with their friends? It should be in our biology to be proud of our voice.

Whiz-bang returned the next day, offering open arms to Epic Noggin. They wanted to grant compassion. Epic Noggin finally came to understand Whiz-bangs invitation, so they both played together for the whole night before Whiz-bang once again had to depart.

That had upset Epic Noggin, that their new friend left. He was never one to dabble with his own feelings to another monster, though, he believed that this would become a cycle.

Despite his conflict in his head, he sat in the same spot they’d exchanged goodbyes at and waited, and waited until Whiz-Bang came back.

This time, when Whiz-bang came and greeted him with his same bright smile, Epic Noggin only asked them to follow him.

At the same crag that they first met, Epic Noggin asked about his friend’s home.

“It’s wonderful! You would really have to see it for yourself.” Whiz-bang exclaimed. “It’s deLightful.”

“I know it is” were the only words Epic Noggin could say back. For a while, he sought for something like it. The earthy monster had a rather woeful look on him as he reflected about his friend. The two had known each-other for such a little amount of time and he felt like, inevitably, Whiz-bang would leave. He did not have the heart to bring this up, so he only slightly smiled with his eyes and said “I’ll see you” before Whiz-bang drifted away once again.

Of course that monster’s home would be the Light Island, Epic Noggin thought. He glows like a million suns.

That would be a foolish thing to directly say, so he could only watch from a distance as Whiz-bang continued to display his vibrant colors to the other monsters of Earth Island and around.

The Epic Noggin continued to keep to himself as the days moved forward, unknowing of the future.

At the same time he felt as if he was better off without Whiz-bang, he found himself mourning for the sight of his eyes.

But maybe his quiet prayers were heard, for he one day, and once again, saw a glimmering sight in the sky. This time, it was stronger than ever. A sight so mesmerizing, it encouraged him to step out into the crowd and finally find himself in the festivities.

…And when the Titan Phosphora temporarily migrates to the humid land of Sollum, can the two hearts of these monsters finally connect in their once-in-a-lifetime ‘Light-hearted’ chorale.
