"Raise your hands and turn around slowly." Faith turned around carefully, but kept her arms at her sides. Once she came face to face with the person who had given the order, she smirked.
In a low, husky voice, she replied, "Why hello there, professor. I wasn't aware that academics were allowed to carry guns, much less point them at people." Just because she could, she gave the geek a slow once-over, starting at the eyes behind round glasses, the almost shoulder-length slightly curly hair, down to his perfectly pressed shirt and the knitted vest over it, before she moved on to the old-fashioned light brown satchel he was carrying over one shoulder, and then down to his old-man pants and shoes.
He was kinda cute for an obvious geek, if you were into that kind of thing. Maybe Little D would've been interested in taking him for a ride if he wasn't a police officer...
"I said, raise your hands."
"Why? Who are you and who are you acting on behalf of?"
"Special Agent Dr. Spencer Reid. FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit."
Faith turned her red lips into a confused frown. "The FBI's what now?"
Reid went into lecture mode. "The BAU is a division of the FBI that applies psychology and research to help solve complex, violent crimes. We-"
The Slayer interrupted him, "Okay, okay. You mess with people's minds instead of searching for physical evidence. Got it." She studied his face. "What do you want with me?" She gave their surroundings a covert survey to check if her little geek had backup, and came up with nothing. That didn't mean no one was there, just that they were unusually good at blending into their environment.
"Miss Lehane, you are a wanted fugitive after escaping prison in 2003. You are also wanted for questioning about what happened in Sunnydale, California that same year."
"Um, yeah. You need to check your news bulletins again, G-Man. I got a full pardon in 2005. Ain't no warrants out for me anymore."
He immediately denied her claims, but despite his belief, she really had been pardoned. Finally being able to move around freely without worrying about someone trying to arrest her had been of the awesome.
"Listen, professor. I'd love to chat, but I have an elsewhere to be." And she backed away from him at a slow pace so as not to startle him.
"STOP! I already told you to raise your hands." He aimed a little higher, and if he hadn't looked so weird with a firearm, she might've been more worried. He had a solid grip, though, so she stopped.
"Have you ever fired a gun? It's not a toy."
"I'm a Federal Agent; of course I've fired it. We have to be qualified to become a Federal Agent."
While he spoke, she had moved carefully backward, one small step at a time so he wouldn't notice. If it came down to it, she could just use her Slayer speed to escape, but they were supposed to keep that secret, so she was trying for subtlety.
When Agent Reid had first called out, she had just rounded a corner on her way to get her bike from parking. Now she was trying to get back the same way, so it would be easier to escape. There was no way she was going back to prison, not even temporarily while the mix-up was cleared up; if it came down to it, she would use whatever means necessary to get away, B and the Council be damned. They could clean up any potential political disaster without her.
"Stop moving!" She smirked a little; it seemed she had managed to irritate him. It didn't matter; she was at the corner, and she backed around it and out of sight. A few seconds later, she had turned the next corner. She could hear him yell, but ignored it.
The way she had gone at first had been a shortcut; now she went for the long way around. Still, she made good time and collected her beloved bike. Soon after, she was back on the road.
