Chapter 1: Death On Open Waters

Chapter Text

Peacock

They’re dead. They’re dead, they’re fucking dead oh my moons Windchill is dead. That was the consensus of everyone on board when Windchill’s head fell off. Peacock stared at their head, holding back vomit. How? How in the hell was Windchill dead? They were an animus, for moons’ sakes, they were nearly impossible to get rid of! Everyone else in the room was panicking too. Ghostberry had quickly backed away from the body, Realgar had flown to the ceiling and was circling the scene nervously. Chia was huddled up next to Bhoota, who was standing completely still and staring at the blood pooling on the ground, fighting their FrightWing instincts. Peacock growled up at Realgar. “HEY! CAPTAIN! SHOULDN’T YOU GET DOWN HERE AND CAPTAIN!?” Realgar paused mid-flight, and hovered for a moment. “…oh, yeah, right.” They dove down to face the crew. Oh moons I’m screwed. They thought, making Peacock huff quietly. “Okay, everyone, calm down! Everything is perfectly fine!” Their back claw touched the puddle of blood, and Realgar shot back into the air with a shrill yelp. Peacock sighed in defeat. Ghostberry pointed to Windchill’s body nervously. “Uh, so what do we do about Windchill?”

The shrill squeak of wheels caught everyone’s attention as Blue-ring carted in a large, mobile medical bed. They carefully handled Windchill’s body and gingerly placed them onto the cot. It never gets any easier. They thought to themselves, and Peacock couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for them. Realgar flew down quickly as Orange-tip trotted over next to Blue-ring. “Alright crew, like I said, everything is perfectly fine! Blue-ring is just gonna do some tests and figure out what happened! Everyone can go back to working as normal!” They trotted away as Blue-ring pushed the cot into the med bay.

Realgar

How in the hell did they die!? Realgar wondered anxiously. What would happen to them!? A member of a royal family dying on their ship!? They were fired for sure! Orange-tip nudged them with their wing. “By the way, Realgar, I did a check. Coms are down. We won’t be able to contact MIRA until we dock.” OH THANK THE FUCKING MOONS I’M SAVED!!! “Oh, well that’s a shame.” They answered, following Blue-ring into the med-bay. “Well, this certainly wasn’t expected.” Blue-ring sighed. Realgar positioned themselves in the best area as not to melt and/or light anything on fire. “So, they’re dead right?” Blue-ring looked over at Windchill’s decapitated corpse and then back at Realgar. “Yes. They are very much dead.” “Oh no.” They whimpered. Orange-tip cautiously took a small inkwell and dipped Windchill’s talon into it. They hastily scrawled their name onto a scroll. The two stared at them. “What!? It’s a standard liability waiver, they were definitely going to sign it!” Whatever keeps me from getting tossed into the tundra I guess… Realgar rationalized. Blue-ring eyed Windchill’s corpse suspiciously. “There seems to be some sort of pink residue on the body. If I analyze this, I can figure out its molecular composition.” Realgar nodded. “Oh, okay!” They carefully scooped some off and stored it in a little tube. “I’ll need complete privacy to perform these experiments. I’ll let you both of the results as soon as I get them.” Realgar nodded. Wow, so determined. I should probably leave… the pair quickly left the room and Blue-ring to their own devices. Everything’s going to be fine. Nooooo biggie.

Notes:

Poor Realgar, man, they just wanna have a stable job...next chapter will have some Blime in it, so be prepared!!!
