whisk

Summary:

Iroha tries to bake something for her band members but she has no idea how to. Luckily, Wonhee is great at baking

Notes:

Ingredients

1 cup water (240ml)
6 tbsp unsalted butter (85g)
1 Tbsp granulated sugar (13g)
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
CINNAMON SUGAR

3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

In a large saucepan, bring the water, butter, salt and sugar to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. When it boils, immediately take the pan off the heat.
Stirring with a wooden spoon, add all the flour at once and stir hard until all the flour is incorporated, 30 to 60 seconds.
Return to the heat and cook, stirring, 30 seconds. Scrape the mixture into a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or use a hand mixer).
Mix at medium speed. With the mixer running, add 3 eggs, 1 egg at a time, as well as the vanilla. Stop mixing after each addition to scrape down the sides of the bowl. Mix until the dough is smooth and glossy and the eggs are completely incorporated. The dough should be thick, but should fall slowly and steadily from the beaters when you lift them out of the bowl. If the dough is still clinging to the beaters, add the remaining 1 egg and mix until incorporated.

Heat oil to 370F
Using a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
Pipe 6 inch pieces using an 869 or large closed star tip. It's best to fry about three at a time.
Fry on either side for 90 seconds to 2 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove with tongs and allow to drain on a paper towel for about thirty seconds before placing in the cinnamon sugar. Spoon sugar over, remove excess and serve.

Work Text:

Iroha grunts, trying to mix the eggs and flour mixture together. God, why’d the consistency have to be so thick? Basically, starting from the beginning, Iroha wanted to make something for her friends. Yunah, Minju, Moka, and Wonhee. They had just had an exhausting concert yesterday, and she wanted to award them with churros. The only problem is, she is horrible at baking.

She looks around, trying to find anybody back at the dorm that could help. Moka was here, yeah. But she was just as terrible of a baker as her. She props her chin up on her hand, thinking of anybody who could help.

Wonhee. Yes. She’s amazing at baking. Literally the exact opposite of Iroha. And she would definitely help Iroha anytime she could. She talks in her mind, I guess I’m not surprising Wonhee anymore. I really do need help.

Iroha calls out for her, “Uhh, Wonhee!” She walks right by, perfect timing. “You’re already here! I wanted to ask, could you help me? I’m trying to.. bake something.” She bites her lip. Wonhee happily accepts the offer, running over to Iroha. “Soo, did you need help mixing this?” She nods, eyes wide.

”Ok so, put this bowl on the ground. So it’s easier.” Wonhee sits down beside the bowl, criss cross. She looks up at Iroha, both her hands behind her back, zoned out. “Uh, Iroha?” She blinks and straightens her posture. “O-oh. Yeah. Right.”

She sits down next to her, hands supporting her, knees propped up. “So what do I do?” Wonhee snickers. “Well you just.. try mixing it again?” Iroha hums, picking up the whisk again. can see she’s clearly struggling so she scoots up behind her, and wraps her fingers around Iroha’s wrist.

Iroha freezes. Wonhee guides her hands— but she can barely pay attention when she’s so close. She could feel Wonhee’s breath on her. Wonhee snaps her back to reality. “Ok, try mixing it like me.” Iroha didn’t even see her mix the ingredients together. All she saw were Wonhee’s face, her hands, her hair.. Wonhee’s voice drowns out. “Hey?” She clears her throat.

”My bad I was- I was just thinking of something.” She masquerades her laugh, that just turned out sounding insanely awkward. Wonhee continues leading her on, but she can only focus on how close they were. It had gotten to a point where Iroha’s cheeks were burning up. Eventually, they finish baking. Iroha didn’t learn a single thing  except for that she might like Wonhee.

Wonhee sets down the plate on the table, sitting down next to her, and holds one up for Iroha to try. Iroha stutters, “Uhh- shouldn’t- shouldn’t you be trying it?” Wonhee insists she tries it. “I helped in the process of making it, so I think you should try at least one. Think of it like a reward.” Iroha felt kind of bad that Wonhee was crediting her. But whatever she wants, because she would feel rude denying her request.

She bites into it. Woah. It really is good. “Wow, Wonhee, you’re so good at baking— I mean it-” Wonhee interrupts, “You’re a good baker. Not me.” Iroha felt as if she’d made an achievement. Wonhee telling her out of all people she’s a good baker. “Ah, thanks a lot..” She comes up from her chair and pushes it forward. “They should be home soon. I’m sure the rest of our group would appreciate it. I’ll be cheering you on.” She walks back to her room.

Iroha’s lips are parted, and her eyes stared out into the distance. Speechless. After a while she finally got up too, and stored the churros in the fridge. That’ll work for now. Her fingers wrapped around the doorknob, but her phone rings in her pocket. Message from Yunah, “5 minutes away” Did she really sit there for that long thinking about Wonhee? Well, now that they’re already near, might as well just wait outside for them. Finally, she heard the back door open. She perked up. Iroha yells out, “I have a surprise for you guys!” She runs to the door.

They all flinch when she comes up in front of them. “Could you guys follow me?” She says, a wide grin put on her face. Moka exclaims, intrigued. “Sure! What is it?” She follows up behind Iroha, and the rest of the members follow up behind Moka.

Iroha says, “Soo, since we had our concert yesterday, I wanted to make you guys something! Close your eyes, and I’ll be right back.” Moka closes her eyes with no hesitation, a smile on her face as she does so. Minju looks at Moka. Both Minju and Yunah are skeptical. Iroha persists, “Come on guys, are you gonna close your eyes?” They both sigh, but they still close their eyes.

She tip toes to the kitchen, and grabs the plate. Iroha stands in front of the 3. “Open your eyes!”They collectively gasped. Minju’s hand flies over her mouth, “You really made that?” She laughs, and holds the plate out closer to them. “Try one.” They all eat one. Obviously.

Yunah says, “These are really good. Is Wonhee here? She should try one.” Iroha’s expression lights up at the mention of Wonhee’s name. She comes up behind her that exact moment. “Hey!” The 3 of them all speak at the same time, saying things along the lines of, “This is really good.” or, “You really should try one.” Little did they know Wonhee made them. She takes a bite out of one. Moka says something, and the attention turns to her. “I never knew you could bake. Did someone help you?” All their gazes shift to Iroha. Her head turns to Wonhee.

“She helped me make it.”
